CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90-179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‘s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4.00 per hour will apply; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‘s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. There is FREE childcare service two nights per month for any FRG member who would like to utilize the service to attend an FRG meeting. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. Now – Feb 5, 2012 NFL SUNDAY TICKET Are you ready for some football? Blackjack Bar & Grill is hosting a NFL Sunday Ticket now through Super Bowl. Blackjack Bar & Grill will open at 11:30 am. Relax with friends and watch your favorite team on six 50” televisions. Blackjack Bar & Grill is located inside the Pershing Community Center in Bldg. 4109 Piney Hills Drive. Blackjack – is the place to be! For more information call 596-2455. Now – January 2012 10th BIG BUCK CONTEST The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting their 10th Annual Big Buck contest. Hunters may enter multiple categories: Archery and gun (youth & adult). Hunt location is within the Fort Leonard Wood boundaries. All Missouri and Fort Leonard Wood regulations apply and must be observed at all time. Hunters must pre-register at the Outdoor Adventure Center prior to the start of each portion of the fall hunting season. The Outdoor Adventure Center is located in Bldg. 2290 off FLW K Road. Now – November 3 MINI BASKETBALL The CYS Service Youth Sports & Fitness Mini Basketball program is in session at the Pippin Youth Center. Children ages 3 yrs. meet on Tuesdays and children ages 4-5 meet on Thursdays. All mini sports require parent participation. Children must be registered with CYS Services prior to signing up for any CYS program. For more information call 596-0209. Now – October 31 CORPORATE MINIATURE GOLF TOURNAMENTS Need a new and fun way to host a team building opportunity? Check out Rec Plex’s Corporate Miniature Golf Tournament, is a fun and energizing team building opportunity. The Rec Plex miniature golf course is a superb environment for some friendly team building/competition experience. Book your slot now through October 31 from 8:00 am – 11:00 am! Now – October 25 MUSIC & MOVEMENT: SHAKE YOUR TAIL FEATHERS The SKIES Program’s Music & Movement class is in session. This session’s theme is “Shake Your Tail Feathers”. Music & Movement is a creative movement class, where children will learn the concept of music, melody, rhythmic, respond to music appropriately and creatively, and develop tonality. Parents will also learn different techniques to apply to everyday activities at home and on the go. Parent participation is required. Now – October 17 ESPRIT DE CORPS GUIDON TOURNAMENT Daugherty Bowling Center’s Esprit De Corps Guidon tournament is in session. This is an 8-week, 9-pin no tap/scratch tournament. Winner will hang their Guidon proudly at the Daugherty Bowling Center and win a trophy to display at their Commander’s office. Tournament is from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm. Now – October 12 HAUNTED HOLD ‘EM REGISTRATION Sign up for this ONE ghoulish night of Haunted Hold ‘em! Event is October 14 at 6:00 pm/ registration at 5:30 pm, at the Pershing Community Center. Cost is $20 per person. Come in a mask and receive an additional drawing entry. Event is open to the public 18 yrs. and older. Now – October 7 2011 ARMY DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Enter your best digital photography to compete against the top photographers in the Army and win cash awards. Contest has two major divisions; one division is open to Active Duty and second division is open to eligible civilians, family members, Retirees, and DA Civilians. There are eight categories:

Deadlines for participant entries are October 7, midnight and images must be submitted through the contest web site https://artscrafts.fmwrc.army.mil. You must login to the contest web site with your AKO username and password. Department of Army judging results will be available in February 2012. For more information call the Frame Shop at 596-0242. Month of October NATIONAL CHILI MONTH Daugherty Bowling Center’s Strike Zone is celebrating National Chili Month. Receive half off on a bowl of chili when you purchase a game of bowling every Monday-Friday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm for the month of October. Daugherty Bowling Center is open to the public. Month of October NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month at the Daugherty Bowling Center every Thursday from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm. This monthly program offers after school opportunities for youth to Experience, Develop, Grow and Excel by participating in cutting-edge activities. EDGE is open to registered youth in grades 1-5. For more information call 596-0200. Art EDGE! – Holiday Crafts. Youth will have the opportunity to make holiday crafts such as pillow, soap, candle for friends and family. Youth meets every Monday, except October 10 from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm at the Rec Plex. Fit EDGE! – Bowling. Youth will learn the basics of bowling. To be eligible to participate in the Top Chef Jr. Masters, participants must be enrolled in Top Chef Jr. Youth in grades 1-5 meet on Tuesday’s and those in grades 6-12 meet on Thursdays from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Audie Murphy’s Community Center. Month of October ARMY FAMILY TEAM BUILDING Do you want a better understanding of the Army life? The Army Family Team Building (AFTB) classes will help you to not just cope with, but also understand, military life. With AFTB you will gain the knowledge and self-confidence to take responsibility for yourself and your family while your sponsor is away. It’s training for a way of life that prepares you in America’s Army to function at the highest level. Many of these courses can be applied toward college credits, resume/career building, and self-development. Classes are FREE and open to the public. Classes consist of three levels and you are encouraged to take all three. Child care is available through CYS Services, child must be registered, must make reservations 8 days prior to class. Need to get rid of some items, registration will be taken the day of yard sale. Cost to register day of is $15 ($10 in advance), includes tables and a parking space. The following items CANNOT be sold: weapons, food item, retail items (i.e. Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Stampin’ Up, Scentsy, etc.). Rain date: October 2. October 1 B.O.S.S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY DINNER CRUISE Cruise the waves at Osage Beach! The Better Opportunity for Single Soldier (B.O.S.S) program is hosting their annual birthday dinner cruise from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm with Celebration Cruises. Cruise with style with catered dinner, music and cash bar. Cost is $10 for single Soldiers, $40 for all. Dress is semi-formal for the evening. Open to authorized personnel. Youth will meet every Thursdays from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Pippin Youth Center and Sports Complex B. Fit EDGE! – Games. Youth in grades 6-12 will have fun with friends playing board games, cards and video games and have the opportunity to meet new friends. This monthly program offers after school opportunities for youth to Experience, Develop, Grow and Excel by participating in cutting-edge activities. Program begins in November. Participants must be registered with CYS Services prior to signing up. EDGE is open to youth in grades 1-5. For more information call 596-0200. Fit EDGE! – Bowling. October 8 LORA BASS TOURNAMENT The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) is hosting their FINAL Bass Tournament of the season beginning at 7:00 am (or first safelight). Weigh-in is at 3:00 pm. Entry fee per boat is $40 and a $10 fee for big bass (optional). Stop by the Outdoor Adventure Center or LORA for entry forms/rules. Tournament is open to the public. October 8 FALL LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS Want to learn how to take great landscape pictures? Sign up for Arts & Crafts Frame Shop Fall Landscape Photography Class and learn techniques and get helpful tips. This class is great for beginners and advanced amateurs! Cost is $65 per person and a non-refundable deposit of $20, cost includes lunch. Class will take place at the Audie Murphy’s Community Center from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Class is limited to 25 people. Must bring camera – NO point and shoot cameras. Interested patrons must register at the Frame Shop by October 7 at 6:00 pm located inside the PX Mini Mall in Bldg. 490. October 13 HIRED! WORKFORCE PREPARATION WORKSHOP: PORTFOLIO CREATION The CYS Services HIRED! Program is hosting a Workforce Preparation Workshop: Portfolio Creation. Youth will learn the proper ways to organize and display accomplishments in a portfolio which is a comprehensive profile of you and your abilities. This is a great workshop for college admission. Workshop will take place at the Audie Murphy’s Community Center from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Workshop is FREE and open to youth in grades 9-12. Run the outer course (2.5 laps) or walk the inner course (6 laps), led by the MSCoE Deputy Commanding General. October 14 NIGHT GOLF Have lots of fun on the course golfing at night with glow in the dark golf balls and chemical lights at Piney Valley Golf Course Night Golf beginning at 5:00 pm. Cost is $35 per person, non-members / $30 per person for members, meal included. Each team will play 9 holes in daylight and the rest of the round after dark. Don’t forget to grab yourself a bowl of chili at the turn. Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd place and for most “off-the-wall” dressed team. Night golf is open to the public. Equipment Orientation Learn how to properly use the cardio and strength equipment. A free 30-minute equipment orientation will be held at the Davidson Fitness Center and Specker Gym on Mondays at 9:00 am and Thursdays at 6:00 pm.

Aerobic Classes A variety of aerobic classes are offered monthly at various times to fit your fitness level and your busy schedule. Aerobic passes are available, cost $15-10 punch, $25-20 punch, and $30-30 punch. Aerobic schedule is available online at www.fortleonardwoodmwr.com.
