With the holiday season approach-ing and the first few snowflakes ofwinter beginning to fall, Fort DrumFamilies and Soldiers begin to lookfor some fun holiday activities to cel-ebrate the season.

This holiday season, keep yourselfand your family busy by participatingin community events such as theHoliday Tree Lighting Ceremony heldDecember 1 at 5:15 pm at the MainPost Chapel with treats availableinside Youth Services, ChristmasCarols, and a visit from Santa.

Units will be distributing Christmastrees to families that have beendonated by local tree farms throughthe Trees for Troops program spon-sored by The Spirit of ChristmasFoundation and Federal Express andorganized by BOSS.

December 3 Parks and Recreationare offering a trip to see SyracuseCity Balet perform Children’sNutcracker with tickets at $45 perperson.

On December 6 beginning at 5 pmFamily and MWR and AUSA partnerto present a Family HolidayCelebration with entertainment by

the Youth Center Choir singingChristmas Carols, Magic, Music, PizzaBuffet, Gifts, and a special guestappearance. All this and more is pre-sented at the Commons.

BOSS will open its doors on NashBoulevard on Christmas Eve and Dayand again on New Years Eve toSoldiers who do not have the oppor-tunity to leave Fort Drum on thosedays. Holiday food and plenty of activ-ities are offered with video gaming,televised football, pool, the newmedia room, and free wifi internet.

There is also an opportunity to cel-ebrate New Year’s Eve in NiagaraFalls. Parks and Recreation have a tripwith a two night three day stay inNiagara Falls on the Canadian side ofthe falls. $150.00 per person willinclude transportation and accommo-dations near the Hard Rock Caféwhere you can enjoy a free NewYear’s Eve Rock Concert and mid-night fireworks over the falls.

No matter how you spend this holi-day season be sure to take time foryourself, and enjoy the spirit of theseason.

SOS Grouip Meeting at ACS

Army Emergency Relief Army Emergency Relief (AER) is dedicated to assisting Soldiers, Retirees, survivors andtheir Families with emergency financial assistance. AER can help with emergency trav-el, prevention of eviction, first month’s rent and security deposit, emergency foodneeds, auto repair, and emergency medical and dental expenses. The program providesinterest free loans and grants to members of the military community with valid emer-gency needs. AER is run by funds provided by the contributions from service mem-bers and the community. The AER office is housed at P-4330 Conway Road, inside ofthe Army Community Service Building. The offices offer privacy and a comfortablewaiting area to make difficult times a little easier. For more information about theprogram, our fundraising campaign, or our assistance capabilities please call 772-6560/6555. Information and Referral CenterInformation and Referral Program (I&R) is the ACS resource service for Fort Drumand the surrounding community. I&R can assist with finding resources, activities andevents in and around the Fort Drum area. Available amenities at ACS include a fur-nished kitchen, family lounge, conference room and a communications center offeringinternet, printer, and fax capability. Free Baby Bundles are available for newborns - 3month olds of E1 through E5 or multiple births regardless of rank. ACS OutreachThe goal of Outreach Services is two-fold. First to service the units by evaluatingneeds, coordinating services and delivering programming and secondly, to provide pro-gramming that promotes community cohesiveness. Army Volunteer Corps CoordinatorVolunteering at Fort Drum is fun and easy positions are now posted online atwww.myarmyonesource.com. The Volunteer Management Information System or(VMIS) is a historical change to the way Army installations track and manage their vol-unteer programs. Volunteers can now manage, log and track their volunteer hours aswell as search for open volunteer positions. VMIS allows volunteers to keep a detailedhistory of all volunteer positions held whether it’s here at Fort Drum or at your lastinstallation. This system will unify how volunteer activity is tracked across all Armyposts so your volunteer hours and experience will easily follow you when PCS’ing. The Arts & Crafts Center offers a widevariety of classes, studios and equipmentfor both amateur and experiencedcrafters. Arts & Crafts also offers sublima-tion printing for plaques, cups, mousepads, coasters and many other great giftideas. Stop in to see samples on display.Laser engraving is available with severaltype setting and metal choices.

StudiosStudios are open for use on a walk-

in basis at a cost of $1 per hour.Qualification classes are required inwoodworking, framing, stained glassand ceramics in order to use thesestudios. Staff is available to help outonce you have been certified.

Due to safety regulations no chil-dren under the age of 12 are allowedto sign up for classes. To work in thewoodshop children must be 14 yearsof age and accompanied by a parentor guardian at all times.

Woodworking StudioStudio offers the equipment neces-

sary to create wood projects and fur-niture.

Ceramic and Pottery StudioThe Ceramic Studio offers over 3000

different ceramic molds. Check out the3 full showcases of ready to paintand/or glaze pieces. These can be paint-ed with acrylics and sprayed with a pro-tective finish or painted and refired tomake food safe.

Pottery studio offers pottery wheels,a slab roller and an extruder. Pieces arefired regularly.

Framing StudioFrame crafts and art work like a pro-

fessional. Use the matt and frame cut-ters for custom sizes. The retail storecarries the necessary supplies to framemost any project.

Glass Bottle Crafting Slumped bottles can make interest-

Bottles must be clean with allwrappers removed. Results cannot beguaranteed. An assortment of pre-slumped bottles are on hand for salefor $6 each.
