The First in Florida IronRidge Flush Mount is the first solar mounting system to receive a Florida Product Approval from the Florida Building Commission for compliance with the 2017 Florida Building Code. The rigorous evaluation process for Florida Product Approval includes testing for resistance to high wind forces (TAS 202) and wind-driven rain [TAS 100(A)], and ongoing auditing of quality assurance programs. IronRidge’s Florida Product Approval (FL#29843) covers all components in a Flush Mount solar system and applies to all regions of the state of Florida both inside and outside the high-velocity hurricane zones (HVHZ), up to 100 PSF of wind pressure. The approval also lists allowable rail spans for configurations using either XR10 or XR100 mounting rails as well as multiple IronRidge roof attachments. Allowable SpansThe following table was prepared by IronRidge to translate common site conditions into wind uplift pressures and span values (engineering assumptions below). Alternatively, the prescriptive roof pressures defined in RAS 127 tables 1 & 2 can be used.

FAQ’sDoes this approval work with any solar module?

Every module has its own tested capacity for resisting wind pressure. Check the module manufacturer’s cut sheet or manual for load rating. A third rail may be required to increase the module load rating to meet the uplift pressure.

Where can I find the documentation?

IronRidge’s Florida Product Approval (FL29843) is available on the IronRidge website or through the FBC’s approved products database: https://www.floridabuilding.org/pr/pr_app_lst.aspx

Do I still need an engineer to stamp my project?

This approval covers structural engineering of solar racking and should eliminate the need for project-specific engineering. Confirm with your jurisdiction any local requirements.

Does this apply to Tilt or Ground Mount systems?

This approval only applies to the IronRidge Flush Mount system on roof pitches 2:12 to 12:12 (9.5° to 45°).

Does this apply to other hurricane-prone regions?

Florida’s building code and testing standards are often used or cited in other such regions, but official approval depends on the local Authority Having Jurisdiction.
