Did you know that St. Andrew parishioners have contributed more than $70,000 to the Annual Catholic Appeal in each of the past three years including $77,000 in 2018. That is a great track record from a lot of very generous stewards. The Archbishop has asked all of the Capital Campaign Wave IV parishes to conduct the 2019 ACA beginning this December. But he’s asked us to keep it simple. Next weekend there will be the customary envelopes in the pews asking each member to make their best contributions over the next ten or twelve months to help fund the day to day mission of the Archdiocese. We’ll pick up the unused envelopes from the pews after the 11:45 Mass and there’ll be not further reference to the important of the ACA for 2019. The Development Office may mail out another appeal to those from whom no gift was offered, but that’s it. Why are they being so kinder and gentler about this year’s ACA? Because the focus beginning in January will be on raising $870,000 from St. Andrew’s over the next five years. If that sounds like a huge sum, all I can say is that nearly all the parishes our size and larger who have already conducted their campaigns in Wave I—III have far exceeded their goals already. In fact, all those parishes have contributed about $71 MILLION over the next five years. While the funds raised in the campaign will help a number of important things including Seminarian education, Retired Priests, Evangelization efforts, and property acquisition for future parishes, the largest single item is The Shrine to Honor Blessed Stanley Francis Rother that will be built at 89th and Shields not far from here. This will NOT be a geographical parish church, but it will accommodate some major Archdiocesan celebrations like the Rite of Election, The Chrism Mass, and Ordinations to the Diaconate and Priesthood. But it will be large enough to accommodate the large number of Hispanics who can barely be accommodated by Sacred Heart, St. James, Little Flower, and other parishes which have one or more Masses in Spanish.

HEALING PRAYER MINISTRY
Since praying for healing was a core element of the ministry of Jesus, it must also be a vital part of parish ministry as well. The healing power of God is available to the Church through all the sacraments but especially through the Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Anointing of the Sick. As a worshipping community we intercede during Mass for the infirm and homebound and we are invited to pray for them throughout the week. This ministry will be available in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel following the Saturday evening Mass on the third weekend of each month.
Have you or someone you know been facing difficulties? Have you ever wished just to be touched by the Lord himself and be healed like the many people we read about in the new Testament? There are such individuals right here at St. Andrew’s and they are ready and willing to offer healing prayer to all who seek it. Keep in mind that God does not always will a physical healing, but may choose to bestow a spiritual or emotional healing.
