    Founded by His Highness the Aga Khan and chartered in 1983 as Pakistans first private university, Aga

    Khan University (AKU)s objective is to promote human welfare in general, and the welfare of the peopleof Pakistan in particular, by disseminating knowledge and providing instruction, training, research and

    service in the health sciences, education and such other branches of learning as the University may

    determine. It occupies a pivotal place within Aga Khan Development Network.

    The University is chartered by the Government of Pakistan as an international university with the

    authority to operate programs, branches and campuses anywhere in the world. An international board of

    trustees governs AKU which currently has ten teaching sites in seven countries.

    AKU is rapidly becoming an international university in response to the mandate of its Charter,

    establishing teaching programs in Pakistan as well as abroad. At the request of regional governments in

    East Africa, and with the assistance of institutions within the Aga Khan Development Network, AKU has

    initiated nursing and teacher education programs Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and is in the advanced

    stages of final accreditation by authorities in these countries.

    In 2002, the University established its Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations (AKU-ISMC) in the

    United Kingdom. The Institutes goal is to strengthen research and teaching on the heritage of Muslim

    societies in all its historic diversity.

    SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS

    In AKUH there is a constitute research & studies department which is connected with all

    the core department of AKUH.

    These core departments of AKUH includes both line & staff department.

    The purpose of Research & Studies department is to give an acceptable solution for all

    problems that arises in organization at different span of time.

    ALTERNATIVE GOALS & PLANS

    Research and studies department start collecting the data from I.T.Industry.

    They Generate alternative solutions by keeping cost of purchase , training cost &

    implementation cost in mind.

    For this purpose, research department selected three soft wares which are People Soft an

    ERP based software, OPMS an Oracle based software & last VB.net .

    GOALS & PLAN EVALUATION

    After Generating alternative solutions, Research & Studies department distribute their

    research work to the related department which are victimized by these problem so that they

    can get them feedback so these department can make their feasibility report about all those

    alternative goals and plans that are given to them by the research department so that they

    might come to know all the pitfalls, positive & negative aspects of these softwares.

    GOALS & PLAN SELECTION

    After gathering the result of evaluation of these softwares these report are then forwarded

    to the directors of the department so that they will take the final decision and directors have

    selected people soft and OPMS to be implemented in core department. They have taken thedecision on the basis of past experiences and also consider the future requirements.

    AMBULATORY CARE CENTRES

    To enhance access to the general and special clinical services of the University

    Hospital in Karachi,

    AKUH established offsite medical services/ambulatory care centres in Clifton,

    Shahra-e-Faisal and M. A Jinnah Road. These units are components of a system ofhealth care for which the University Hospital is the centre of reference.

    The Hospital's objective is to provide high-quality care that is convenient and

    easily accessible to larger populations that reside in areas distant from the main

    campus on Stadium Road.

    In AKUH, only those persons are appointed as leader of any departments who

    possess the following qualities:

    Highly Qualified so that all those employees work under that leadercannot underestimate their leaders and consider them believes them as leader

    as far as qualifications are concerned.

    They must possess experience at upper level management.

    Most persons who are working as leader has people skills, because its a

    power that through which he/she can drive their followers to do work more

    efficiently which result in more productivity.

    Leaders of our organization has provided legitimate power, the ultimate power

    which remarks from any leader as a result employees has to obey what boss tells

    them to do.

    REWARD POWER

    Leaders at all level and at each department gives the quarterly revenue targets to

    achieve and leaders are providing incentives in the form of bonus as a rewards to

    their employees if they successfully achieve the targets.

    Leaders are also provided with coercive powers i.e a manager can hire or fire any

    person on the basis of any misconducts that has been done by and any of their

    subordinates but these misconducts are not of personnel reasons these mistakes

    must be those which are against the organizations disciplinary policy.

    As all the leaders who are working here has a vast experience in their

    respective field of work and their experiences help us to work more efficiently

    and effectively because they dont only possess the qualifications but also theunique ideas, techniques and expertise which makes work easier.

    The behavior of my department manager is a task oriented. He always wants us

    to complete the work before the deadline. He doesnt only want us to complete

    the work but to complete it according to the instructions that has been described

    AKUH has got a very wide personnelHuman Resource Department. Its work is

    to have an update file of each & every employee so they can utilize their employee

    according to their knowledge, skills & education. H.R Department also determines

    the capabilities, Confidence & Zeast of all new comers to AKUH so that each &

    every employee get recruited according to their skills, knowledge levels. AKUH

    INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

    The achievements of Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON) have been

    possible due to contributions from many donors and voluntary organisations namelyRoyal Norwegian Embassy Development Corporation (NORAD), Department for

    International Development (DFID), Canadian exchange program (CADEX) and

    Voluntary Service Organisations (VSO)

    A major initiative to develop the capacity of AKU-SON was funded by CanadianInternational Development Agency (CIDA) in partnership with the McMaster University

    in Canada, a bilateral programme between the government of Canada and Pakistan

    prepared nurses for leadership roles in government and strengthened national nursing

    organisations in Pakistan.
