History Google is one name in the Technology arena that is well poised to rule. Talking

of past decade, it’s been all the way up for Google and undoubtedly they have been ruling the internet economy. Google have had its impact in the industry with more than 150 products.

Google reign

1995, Mar-Dec -- Ph.D. candidates Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University and discussed ideas about a new search technology.

1996, Jan-Dec -- Brin & Page created BackRub.

1998, August-Dec -- Search for potential partners to licence their technology. One of the people they got in touch with was David Filo, the founder of Yahoo.

Hunt continued.. Help came from a Andy Bechtolsheim, one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems, in the form of $1,00,000.

Larry and Sergey opened office on September 7, 1998. The office was located in the garage of a friend's house in Menlo Park, California.

History… The name Google, though chosen by accident, indicated the company's mission

- to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. It is basically a play on the word "googol," the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros.

The website www.google.com became operational and the duo recruited their first employee - fellow Stanford student Craig Silverstein (Silverstein), who later became Google's Technical Director.

Popularity growth

10,000 searches per day in 1998 – 150 million in 2002 – above 293 million in 2009..

Google: 34,000 searches per second Yahoo: 3,200 searches per second Bing: 927 searches per second , as on 23 feb, 2010.

Work Culture at Google Google’s mission statement and corporate culture reflect a philosophy that you

can “make money without doing evil” and that “work should be challenging and the challenge should be fun”.

Every employee is a hands-on contributor, and everyone wears several hats. Treating employees with respect from day 1, feedback at every path,

allowances for paternity/maternity leaves, generous vacation policy etc..

No Googler hesitates to pose questions directly to Larry or Sergey in the weekly all-hands meetings.

Googlers tend to be happy-go-lucky on the outside, but Type A at their core.
