For my Photo Social Interaction, I decided to show our Thanksgiving celebration. Ever since we migrated from the Philippines, our family has conformed and adapted to western traditions. Thanksgiving has always been a part of that even though, we didn’t really celebrate it back in our home country. It is a fun celebration that brings us all together.

This is my tita Pilar (aunt Pilar)and is the mother of my cousin, Mara, who is the host and cook forour Thanksgiving dinner.

She is prepping the chopping board where the turkey and roast beef will be served.

That is my cousin Mara holding the turkey that I have been waiting for!

Western culture has truly made a difference in our food, way of thinking, and celebrations. As Filipinos especially in my family, it is important to retain our values and cultures, however, we also believe in embracing the differences around us and incorporate it in our own culture.

Women are usually the ones prepping out the dinner festivities (maybe aside from grilling BBQ outside—usually the men in the family do that)

My other aunt takes pictures of the food and relatives

Dinners like these, bring us all together, that is why I think that Filipinos adapt well in where they live in, we embrace other culture and integrate them into our lives.

After a very big Thanksgiving dinner, it is followed by a delicious dessert. - My aunt is cutting up a Filipino dessert pastry called “Sans Rival”

My cousin on the other hand is topping her home-made cheesecake with fresh strawberries and strawberry glaze.

As the adults mingle and talk, the children spend time watching television, playing games, and socializing

As a sign of even more generosity from the host, each family takes home food from the dinner.Filipino hosts usually cooks/serves more food than people could eat so that they can take some home.
