I hope that 2011 has treated you and your family well and you’re ready to move on to 2012 and all the wonderful opportunitie s that it will bring! November has been filled with fun and exciting activities at FHES. November was “Be Thankful” Month. Students were recognized with eagle feathers for showing their gratitude to others, Mr. Biggers had students sign the “be thankful” poster in PE, and we all performed the gratitude dance for Mrs. Taylor to record. Our staff has organized activities to build a sense of caring for and giving back to each other as well as their local community. About 50 of our students participated in the holiday performance of Oh No! Granny’s got the remote . I was able to attend the Sunday afternoon performance and was extremely proud of our FHES students and their performances. Congratulati ons to all of you who participated in this wonderful community event! A fun and exciting assembly kicked off December’s “I Love to READ: PETS, PAWS, and PALS” month. Students were able to meet a local celebri ty, Gary G ero. For more t han 30 years Mr. Ger o has worked with animals o f all kinds, including wolves, owls, orangutans, alligators, zebras and flies, for films such as Harry Potter, 101 Dalmatians, Dr. Doolittle, The Indian and the Cupboard and many, many more. In our assembly he shared his passion for animals and books. Our assembly also included a hilarious skit called “Book, Book, Book” by some of our most talented teachers. Students ended the assembly singing the song “I’ve got a feeling…this book’s going to be a good book!” A Book Fair and waffle breakfast was held last week. Families visited the book fair and enjoyed delicious Saturday morning waffles made by our amazing parents! Thank you to all who helped and attended this breakfast! All students are reading for minutes, pages, or books to travel the Iditarod trail we have posted in the hallway. Students are trying to get their sled dog to make it to Nome, Alaska which 1100 miles from the start of the trail. Four parents joined me for my 1 st Principal’s Coffee Hour in November. Happy Holidays to all!

I hope that 2011 has treated you and your family well and you’re ready to move on to 2012 and all the wonderful

opportunities that it will bring! November has been filled with fun and exciting activities at FHES.

November was “Be Thankful” Month. Students were recognized with eagle feathers for showing their gratitude to

others, Mr. Biggers had students sign the “be thankful” poster in PE, and we all performed the gratitude dance for

The month of December is “Be Caring” month. Our staff has organized activities to build a sense of caring for and

Island Rec’s Girls Basketball League – Starting in January

Now is the time to sign up for Island Rec’s Girls Basketball League. Open toall girls in 4th – 8th Grades. All games are played in Turnbull Gym on Sundayafternoons form Feb 5th – March 11th. Girls will practice twice a week startingthe week of January 23rd. Cost is $35 before January 6th ; $40 thereafter.Deadline to register is January 18th. Register online at www.islandrec.org or

2012 Boys SWISH Basketball Sign-Ups(Skagit, Whatcom, Island, Snohomish Hoops)

Time to shoot hoops for 6, 7 & 8th grade boys. Pick up SWISH basketballforms at the elementary school and middle school offices. Games areSaturdays on the mainland in Mount Vernon starting January 7 and runningthrough February. This is a fun and exciting league for your child to traveland play basketball with off-island teams.
