From the Principal Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to our Term 4 Week 6 newsletter. We start this week with the visit from the Life Education Van. The Van was put in place over the weekend and I know that students will gain valuable learning that will set them up for life and give them valuable information to help them make informed health choices into the future. They will enjoy touching base with Healthy Harold again too! Kindergarten Orientation was a lovely event where we welcomed many new families into our school. The children were very settled and appeared to enjoy their experiences at school and meeting their buddies. I look forward to seeing them again at the Teddy Bear’s Picnic which is being held on Friday 7 December. Over the next few weeks, there will be some High School orientation activities happening, so please talk to your Year 6 children about these and read all notes carefully to find out details. We have a huge supply of lost property accumulated again. Jumpers with names will be returned to their owners and those un named will be taken home and washed and resold through the office. Please make sure you put names on all school items so that they can be returned to students and encourage your children to look for their lost items if they return home without them. We are also working on developing class lists for 2019, in the hope that we can begin the transition to new classes in the last 2 weeks of school this term. If your children will not be attending Grahamstown PS next year (apart from Year 6 students), please let the school know as soon as possible. Alternatively, if you know of new families coming, please encourage them to contact the school and let us know if they haven’t already. The Department of Education has rolled out a lot of new systems lately and our staff are having constant and ongoing training to learn these new systems. I will be away with Danielle, our School Administration Manager, on Thursday and Friday this week at training for our new Financial Management systems and Human Resource Management systems. I am taking Long Service Leave all of Week 6. Mrs Veronica Teasdale will be relieving Principal in my absence so please contact her with anything you need from the school. Mrs Chantal Roberts has finished with us as she prepares for her baby and we wish her all the best for this exciting time. Some members of our school and community will be receiving awards at the AECG Awards night being held at Murrook on Wednesday 21 November. We congratulate these people and will give them further recognition next newsletter when announcements have been made. Some dates to remember: Dec 4 Hunter River High School Orientation Day Dec 6 Irrawang High School Orientation Day Dec 6 - Volunteer Appreciation Afternoon Tea 2pm

Online Safety

Parents, do you want to learn about the digital environment and how to help your child have safe and enjoyable online experiences? More and more parents are concerned about the risks associated with their children using online games, sites and media. As teachers, we are also concerned! The Office of the ESafety Commissioner has a wealth of information for you, including a Screen Smart Parent Tour for parents of pre-teens and young teens.

NAMES ON CLOTHING /

UNIFORM ITEMS It is important that students have their uniform and other clothing named for school. Please spend 5 minutes writing their names on labels or somewhere so that the items can be identified. You would not believe how many “LOST” items we end up with in Lost Property. Owners cannot be found if the items are not named.
