Our thoughts are with Mrs Jensen’s family at this sad time. Regarding parent-teacher interviews – at the Local Consultative Committee, the staff meeting and the P&C meeting earlier this term, the suggestion to remove comments from report cards was accepted. The main reason for this change is to ensure that teachers use the majority of their time teaching, or planning for teaching. Accompanying this change we need to ensure unequivocally that our reporting to parents is clear, accurate and meaningful. This being the case, our plan is to have the report cards ready to go home towards the end of next term, and schedule parent-teacher interviews for the same week to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to ask questions about their child’s report card and future plans for learning. Ms Shann and I are developing a common format for parent- teacher interview documentation which will be a good simple overview of each child’s achievement. Parents with questions about this can contact me directly. We do hope to have report cards home for parents between weeks 8-10 during Term 2. A great few days of sport at Quinalow! Well done to the STARS who took the trophy for both the Swimming Carnival and the Cross Country. A special congratulations to Holly Henderson who achieved 4 (FOUR!) new records in the swimming carnival. What an outstanding effort! This week I will have completed my 1 on 1 meetings with teachers to develop their Annual Performance Development Plans, aligning our work with our Explicit Improvement Agenda on Vocabulary building for our students. Every teacher has also taken part in classroom observations this term, which is an example of us working together to continue to improve our student results at Quinalow P-10 State School. Another example of this is the co-planning process which is scheduled for next week, when each of our teachers has a half day set aside to work with Ms Shann or Ms Downie (Curriculum Pedagogy and Learning team from the region) and co-plan their work for next term. Strength in teaching at Quinalow P-10 State School is through a COLLABORATIVE process, developing our CAPABILITY and working CONSISTENTLY together for strong outcomes. We’ve had a couple of changes to next week – so please ensure you check our ‘Dates to Remember’ on this newsletter so you have the most up to date information. Starting with some sad news; this week we were saddened to hear that Mrs Jocelyn Jensen, a volunteer at our school for Religious Instruction, passed away. Our thoughts are with Mrs Jensen’s family at this sad time.

19 April at 9.30am at Quinalow School.

Congratulaons to competors at Friday’s Interhouse Swimming Carnival. Well done to Stars for their efforts in winning the

day’s compeon and to Holly for a fantasc effort, breaking four records. Congratulaons to Aces for providing such fierce

compeon in the pool. All the results and records broken are listed on the swimming collage along with some great photos.

The Bowenville So0ball / Tee-Ball Carnival is being held next Thursday, 29th March for students in years 4-6. A bus will be

provided on the day at a cost of $5.00 per child. Notes RE this day will be sent home with the year4-6 students tomorrow,

Thursday.

Prep/Year 1 - One week to go! Wow, what a term. The last two weeks have been very busy with the children enjoying the swimming carnival and the cross country.

In class we have been busy creating our rainforest. The children have started a rainforest poster and have been very excited about making more animals to go in our rainforest. In Maths the year 1’s have been learning about measurement and this week they are collecting and recording data. Preps have been also learning about measurement and have been comparing weights. They have had fun learning about positional words.

Hermit Crab News - We have named our crabs, Yeh! (Turbo, Herman and Bella) The children have been very interested in our classroom pets and have learnt about their habitat and how to care for them.

NEWSFLASH

Next Thursday morning from 9.00am to 11.00am we are having a morning of Easter craft and cooking. One of the parents has offered to come in to make hot cross buns with the children which will be a great Maths and measurement activity. Any other parents or family members who would like to come in and help are most welcome to come and enjoy our Easter morning.

Year 2/3 - What a busy term with holidays nearly upon us! We are currently focusing on writing persuasive text. An opinion needs to be decided upon with reasons given and expressed clearly.

In Maths we have been practising 2D and 2 digit operations with no regrouping, concentrating on using proper layout methods. Students have discovered how to use ‘Scat and tracks’ to identify and classify different animals in Science. If an emu passes through your place maybe they can remember its particular track!!

Year 4 - English: This week we started to unpack poetry, discussing the structure of a poem and the different types. During silent reading students have been reading a variety of poems. Students are also working on their reading goals for next term and reflecting on them. Students have explored different texts identifying the features of explanation, report, riddle and argument texts.

Maths: Students are still working with fractions, addition and subtraction finding the missing numbers, multiplication and this week we started to work with money.

Science: Just finishing the assessments about weathering and erosion.

EASTER CRAFT: Next week the students will create their own Easter Bunnies out of recycling materials. We are a bit short of boxes and plastic containers so I would really appreciate if parents and the school staff can help by bringing to school any useful recycling material that you might have at home.

Year 5/6 - The term has certainly gone quickly! It’s now time for assessments to be completed by the Year 5/6’s. In English, students are producing a poster about their favourite place or where they would like to visit. If anyone has any old travel brochures or magazines that we could have to cut up that would be greatly appreciated. Maths is general revision and testing of concepts taught. In Science students are investigating rusting. In HASS this week we are looking at Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
