This tutorial will teach you how to create a short anima2on in an Alice world. Follow the steps and use the pictures to help find things on your screen.
WhenyouopenAlice,thefirstthingyoumustdoischooseabackgroundforyouranima(on.Youhavesixchoices.
Forthistutorial,choosethegrassbackground,andthenclickOpen.
Step 1: Choosing a Background Step 2: Object Library
Next,addanobjecttoyourAliceWorld.Aliceisfullofdifferentkindsofobjectstoaddtoyourworld.
ClickonthegreenAddObjectsbuUon:
Step 3: Adding the Object
ClickthegreenDonebuUontotherighttobeginworkingwithyournewbunny.
Clickontheanimalsfolderofobjects.Findthebunnyandclickonit.ThenclickAddInstancetoWorld.Thebunnyobjectwillappearinyourworld.
Amethodisacommandyoucantelltoyourbunny.Yourbunnyalreadyknowscertaincommands.
Findtheobjecttreethatliststheobjectsinyourworld,intheleXhandcornerofyourscreen,andclickonbunny.
Step 4: Finding the methods
OnyourAlicescreen,youshouldseeyourmethodeditor.Thisistheareawhereyouwillbetellingyourbunnywhattodo.Itlookslikethis:
Belowtheobjecttree,themethods,orcommands,thatyourbunnyalreadyknowswillpopup:
FindtheDoinorderbuUonattheboUomofthemethodeditor,anddraganddropitintothemethodeditor.Now,whenwedraganddropmethodsinsidethisDoinorder,theywillbecarriedoutonebyone,intheorderthattheyarelisted.
Step 5: Adding Methods
Clickonthemovemethodinthelistofmethodsundertheobjecttree,dragitacrosstothemethodeditor,anddropitontopofyourDoinordercommand:

When you release the move method, you should see some options for your method--what direction you want the bunny to move in, and how far you want it to move.
Since we want to make the bunny move up first, move your mouse over the up direction, and then click on 1 meter:
Step 6: Method Specifics
Your first command to your bunny is now complete.
Tomakeyourbunnymovebackdownfromitsjump,rightclickonyourmovecommandandselectcopy.Yourmovecommandwillbecopiedrightbeneathwhereyoudroppedit.Clickonthesmalldownarrownexttothesecondupchangeittodown.Yourmethodeditorshouldlooklikethis:
Step 6: Finishing the Method
FindtheplaybuUonintheupperleXhandcornerofyourscreen,andclickittowatchyourbunnyjump!
Nowyou’lllearnhowtogetridofmethodsyoudon’twantanymore.Let’ssayyoudon’twantthebunnytomovedownanymore.
ClickonthewordmoveonyourbunnymovedowncommandanddragthecommanduptothetrashcanintheupperleXpartofyourwindow.Whentheoutlinearoundthetrashcanandthecommandturnsgreen,youcandropthecommandinthetrashcantodeleteit.

Ifyouhavedeletedsomethingordonesomethingwrong,andyouwanttoerasewhatyouhavejustdone,youcanclicktheUndobuUonintheupperleXhandcornerofyourscreen.ThisbuUonisalifesaverinmanysitua(ons.

FindtheDotogetherbuUonattheboUomofyourmethodeditoranddraganddropitunderyourDoinorderthat’salreadythere.
Step 8: Doing two methods at once
Tomakethebunnywagitsears,we’llusetheturnmethod,andtelltheearstoturn.Toseethemethodsthatthebunny’searsknow,clickonrightEarandthey’llshowupintheboUomleXcornerofyour screen.Choosetheturnmethod,anddragitintoyourDoTogethercommandinthemethodeditor.Tomaketheearturnout,selectleXforthedirec(on,andthenselect1/4Revolu(ontomaketheearturn¼ofacompletecircletotheleX.
Step 9: Moving a Specific Part
Tocommandjustthebunny’searstomove,clicktheplussignnexttobunnyontheobjecttree.Youshouldseemorepartsofthebunny.ThenclickontheplussignnexttoupperBody,andthenagainnexttohead.Nowyoushouldseethebunny’sears.
Now click on the leftEar, and repeat the process, except instead of asking the ear to turn left, ask it to turn right.

Nowthatyourbunnyhasproperearwaggingac(on,makeittalk.Clickonbunnyintheobjecttreetodisplaythebunny’smethods.ThenclickonbunnySayanddragitintoyourDoTogethercommandunderyourothermethods.Thissmallmenuwillappear:

Clickonothertoenterinyourowntext.Inthetextboxthatpopsup,typeIloveAlice!
PresstheplaybuUontoseewhatyourworldlookslikenow.
Youmayhaveno(cedwhenyouplayedyourworldthatthebunny’sspeechbubbleappearsandthendisappearsveryquickly,almosttooquicklytoread.Thereisawaytofixthis!
Step 11: AdjusDng the Timing
Clickdura(ononthesmallmenuthatappears.Youcanseethat1secondisalreadyselected,whichishowlongthespeechbubbleappearsfor.Wewanttomakeitlonger,soclickonother,andthenenterin3onthecalculatorthatappears.
Lookatthelineinyourmethodeditorthatcommandsyourbunnytospeak.Onthatline,clickthewordmore…nexttothecommand.
NowplayyourAliceworld.Youcanactuallyreadthespeechbubblenow!Congratula(onsonfinishingyourfirstAliceworld!
These are only the very basics of what you can do with Alice. Try out your bunny’s other methods, and see what you can make him do!
