Kens Pen Dear Bethany Family, In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul wrote, And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. One of the great priv- ileges and responsibilities our Lord entrusts to us is developing and training leaders who will effectively teach others. This mandate is at the core of the Great Commission itself—we make disciples who will go and make more disciples— and the work involves our equipping and shap- ing various forms of leaders. Certainly, one very important task is that of preparing men to serve the church in pastoral ministry. Our pastoral in- ternship at Bethany is an integral component of that equipping process. Our intent is to resume the pastoral intern- ship program at the start of the 2017/18 church year in September. Please pray for our efforts in this labor of equipping pastors. Call the church office for more information if you are interested in the internship, or know of someone who might be. For our Lord, His church, and His world, Ken ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sending to the Nations! It was a blessing to hear the testimony from Matt and Ashley this past Sunday. Our church voted Sunday night to help financially in sending them to the nations. If you want to give toward this effort, write a check to Bethany BC, with Shepherds Staffon the checks memo line (or you may simply include a separate note, desig- nating your gift for sending Matt and Ashley). Upcoming Local Missions! Water in the Park: We will give cold, bottled water to our neighbors as they play and exer- cise in Cherokee and Seneca Parks. This is a very simple way to show love to our community and to be ready for opportunities to talk about Jesus. We will meet at church, and then load up the water and proceed to the parks. We usually wear our Bethany BC T-shirts, so call the church office if you need one of those. Below are the currently scheduled Saturday dates. June 3, 9 a.m.-Noon June 17, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. July 1, 9 a.m.-Noon July 29, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. August 12, 9 a.m.-Noon August 26, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Summer Scoops: Our children, youth, their families, and other adults will spend time in Farnsley Park, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday nights this summer, instead of holding our normal youth and chil- drens activities on campus. We will invite all children in the park to join us for sing- ing, Bible teaching, and ice cream at 7 p.m. Our goal is engaging people in our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ through building relationships and sharing the gospel with children and their families. Everyone is invited to join us. We need several adults who can estab- lish relationships with other adults while the children are involved in their activities, and who can assist in other areas. Farns- ley Park is located at 3100 Wedgewood Way, in the Bon Air area. We will meet in the park, to pray and to hang up fliers, at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday, May 31. Vacation Bible School: We still need VBS volunteers. Please contact Shannon Vickery, at 438-5387, if you can help. Be in prayer for these events. Ask for God to use our church to reach the lost in our community. ___________________________________________________________________________________ NEWS + NOTES = Congratulations to Amos Doka, on his May 19 graduation from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, having earned a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Leadership. Bethany is also very proud of its three high-school graduates this year: Ann Boyer (Collegiate), Andrew Lee (Atherton), and Zachary Phillips (Ballard). We will conduct a graduate recognition at the end of Morning Worship this coming Sunday, May 28! After you complete and sign your deacon-nomination form(s), deposit them in the box—in Bethanys second-floor- hallway window—or give them to an active deacon by Sunday, June 11. __________________________________________________________________________________ Join the Baby Bottle campaign to support A Womans Choice Resource Center. Make sure that you return your baby bottle(s)—filled with coins, bills, and/or checks made out to Bethany—to church by Fathers Day, or June 18.
