Thank You!
From the family of Anton Mechura
Our family would like to thank the congregation and all of those whohelped in so many ways, and for all the prayers and warm condolences
we received during the time of my husbands death.
Its wonderful to feel the warmth and friendliness from so many. Godbless all of you.
We Mourned the Loss and Celebrated the Life of

Military BibleStick Outreach / Changing Lives - One Soldier at a Time
Thank you for your generous contributions to the Military BibleStickOutreach. Members and friends of Farmington Lutheran Church haveprovided funds to purchase 72 BibleSticks for our military men and
women!
As this April newsletter issue is goingto press, we are awaiting the finalpieces to fall in place for bringing on aperson to serve as part-time InterimPastor ofCongregational Care at FLC but weare NOT QUITE in position to make anofficial announcement. However, itappears very likely that everything canbe ready for that pastor to join us inearly May and work with Pastor Phil tobetter serve all the needs of this very
active and ever-growing community offaith.
Because of a unique opportunity withthis particular candidate, the pastoralposition will be structured as a termcall, a situation where a pastor serveswith a congregation for a specificlength of time. In this case, the expec-tation is that the pastor will servethrough the duration of Pastor Phils
interim time here but then will alsostay on for an initial period once a newsettled senior pastor arrives but onlyuntil the process to call a settledassociate pastor is complete. Thisoverlap will provide important continu-ity for the congregation and the incom-ing senior pastor during those initialmonths of new leadership.
Given that this will be a term call, itis an action that will require congrega-
tional approval at a Special Congrega-tional Meeting, so please watch for theofficialannouncement of that meeting (likelyto be held later this month) and plan to
attend. The announcement of the meet-ing, of the candidate, and all the relatedinformation will be made available assoon as the final pieces fall in place.

So while we dont have finalnumbers yet to share, we can tell you that initial response and preliminary totalshave been very encouraging, and we can clearly look forward to eliminating ourAssessment debt and making significant strides in reducing our overall debt loadover these next three years because of your generous gifts. So thank you, thanyou, thank you! More information will follow in the coming days.

4/14
Easter is late this year way towards the end of April. In fact,
its about as late as it ever gets, but that is all because each yearEaster Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday after the fullmoon following the Spring Equinox (March 21st) unless that fullmoon falls on a Sunday, and then Easter would be on the follow-ing Sunday which is exactly the case this year. The full moonin April is on Sunday, the 17th, which pushes Easter to the 24th.
Isnt that easy? No, I guess not, and if you cant figure that out, here is something much simpler: Easter this year is April 24th,which means that the preceding week is Holy Week, the immedi-ate days and events that led up to Jesus being arrested, tried, beaten, raised on a cross, and crucified.
And I would like to give you a special Holy Week opportunity asyou wait for Easter this year! I would like you to lay open yourBible for that whole week (Apr 18-24) to the New Testamentbook of Philippians and spend time each day in its powerful res-urrection message. I offer this to you so that you might arrive atEaster Sunday morning with a deep and profound understandingof what Jesus Christ has done for you through the cross andempty grave.
What makes Philippians so perfect for Holy Week revolvesaround words the Apostle Paul wrote as he sat in chains in a Ro-man prison: I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrec-tion and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his
death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the
dead. [3:10-11] What is so remarkable about Philippians is thatPaul then surrounds his own death sentence with some of themost JOY-FILLED words in the Bible!
So here is a day-by-day devotional for your journey through HolyWeek, an opportunity to wait for Easter by exploring the aston-ishing mystery that no matter what may confront us, because ofwhat Christ Jesus has done, we can rejoice in the Lord al-ways. [4:4]
For Mon, Apr 18. Read Philippians 1:1-11. Remember thatPaul writes this from a jail cell, and yet he can say, with abso-lute confidence, that the one who began a good work among
you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Re-flect on how important it is to have friends in Christ, to be partof a faith community, to be held up and encouraged by oneanother.
For Tues, Apr 19. Read Philippians 1:12-30. Here Paul toucheson the power of resurrection in the life of Christian as he says,For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. Reflect on thismystery of faith, that while we value life in this world, at thesame time we are looking forward to the promise of eternal lifewith God.
For Wed, Apr 20. Read Philippians 2:1-18. Here you will find the beautifulChrist Hymn, a creed-like statement ofhow Christ Jesus became obedient tothe point of death, even death on a
cross. Reflect on what the cross means to you, this symbol ofboth defeat and ultimate victory.
For Thur, Apr 21. Read Philippians 3:1-11. From his own lifeexperience, Paul could relate to the deep human desire to bevalued in the eyes of others, but then he says, Whatever gainsI had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ.
Reflect on your own life; look back and see what have been
only fleeting accomplishments as compared to that which hasbeen truly lasting and life-giving for you.
For Fri, Apr 22. Read Philippians 3:12-21. Paul knows that hecan never do enough or be good enough to obtain eternal life, but because Christ Jesus has died for him, Paul presses on infaith toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of Godin Christ Jesus. Reflect on how your life of faith is not aboutachieving something or being good enough, but about respond-ing to what God has already done for you.
For Sat, Apr 23. Read Philippians 4:1-9. Paul closes this joy-filled letter with a call not to worry about anything, but in-stead to find peace in turning everything over to God. Reflect
on what you, today, can let go of and turn over to the Lord asyou await the glorious Easter resurrection.
So as you wait for Easter this year and walk through Holy Week,
may the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. [4:7]
E aster blessings, Pastor Phi l

When you walked into thesanctuary of the old church whatwas the first thing you saw? Andwhen you walk into the sanctuary
of the (current) church buildingwhat is the first thing you see? Aclue? It's the same thing - ourbeautiful stained glass cross.
When moving, you (the congrega-tion) were asked what you wantedto take to the new building andyour #1 answer was the stainedglass cross. Let me tell you someinteresting facts about our cross.
The cross was completed andinitially installed for us in 1951
by the Minneapolis Art GlassCompany.
It was given to FarmingtonLutheran Church in memory ofMrs. Robert (Elise) Pedersen.
It was removed and re-installed inthe current church building in2003 (with some beautifuladditions).
The dimensions are 11 feet and 7 1/2 inches high by 7 feet and 4 incheswide.
If you look closely at the cross you will see 9 individual symbols in
it. Beginning at the top they are:
The Hand of God - The FatherThe Lamb - Jesus the SonThe Dove - The Holy SpiritThe Cross and Crown - Christian VictoryThe Open Bible - The WordThe Chalice and Wafer - The Lords SupperThe Font - Holy BaptismFour Open Books - the Four Gospels
This year our congregation will have enjoyed the stained glass cross for60 years! What a beautiful, visual reminder of our walk with God.
