What technology enables this strongperformance?

We work with two precisely responding chargersand a special manifold for the optimised exhaust

system. On top of that, theres High PrecisionInjection, variable lift of the intake valves and

adjustable camshafts. And because our engine

develops so much power, we completely filled the

available space under the bonnet with coolers.

What are the special features of the cooling

system?It is an extremely complex solution with a lie-flat

oil cooler and two external coolers for the chargeair. We have one circuit for low temperatures and

one for high. The charge air to each cylinder bankis cooled separately and we even air-condition

the engine electronics.

In addition to engine performance, BMW M

drivers attach great importance to sharphandling and biting traction. What does the all

new BMW M offer in these areas?

We continue to use the precise and sensitivehydraulic steering system. In conjunction with

the powerful rear-wheel drive, the driver gets agenuine feel for the road and the forces on the

front wheels. The new Active M differential lockalso increases traction on the rear axle and

provides even greater agility.

The previous lock was already a big plus pointon fast bends, undulating roads or high-power

driving. How is the new one better?The Active M Differential lock adjustselectronically and in advance. The previous

system only locked with a wheelspin on therear axle. Now we can steer the lock proactively.

If the accelerator is engaged and the sensorsanticipate wheelspin based on the current

driving situation, locking torque is applied tothe differential. This prevents a wheel from

spinning, power is optimally placed on the

BUSINESS JET.

Are there any more advantages to the n ew rear-

axle lock?The new lock is completely off during normal

driving, so the new BMW M is even smoother

the vehicle in high-speed lane or other loadchanges.

The technical nesse of the BMW M makesfor a fascinating drive. You have alreadycovered many kilometres in this sharp

company car. What impresses you the most?The unique technology. From the engine, the

transmission and the electronic dampers to thecompletely reworked suspension, its the perfect

symbiosis of business and motor sport. On theone hand you can drive comfortably for long

stretches and on the other, you can be ready

for the racetrack at any time at the touch of abutton. The switch happens via the two M Drive

buttons on the steering wheel. The drivercan congure these in advance according to

With Drivelogic, you can adjust the gearshift characteristics to suit yourrequirements. There is a choice of six drive programmes three in manual

mode and three in automatic. In both cases you can select from a broadspectrum that spans sporting and dynamic to harmonious and comfortable.

The transmission also provides many additional features, such as Launch

Control, which provides the BMW M with optimally fast acceleration from

a standing start. The Active M Differential lock on the rear axle helps supplythe necessary traction for outstanding acceleration and guarantees

improved dynamic performance even on extremely fast cornering.

system via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming.The Bluetooth connection gives drivers access to great on-board

entertainment. They can now wirelessly stream music from music playersor mobile phones positioned anywhere in the vehicle via Bluetooth into

the vehicles HiFi system. In addition, the personal audio library of theplayer or mobile phone appears in the display where it can be accessed

via the iDrive Controller. This even works in parallel to existing phoneconnections.

Bluetooth interface with added functionality (Bluetooth Ofce).Use the time you spend on the road even more effectively! Thanks to the

mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface and the intelligent

integration of selected business mobile phones, you can use the Bluetoothconnection to show Ofce functions such as e-mails, dates, tasks or SMS
