To begin to think about the conventions of Disney Princess films and apply this to

the Poster of Frozen.

Starter

• Watch the opening of Sleeping Beauty• Make a list of conventions (ingredients) that you’d

expect to find in all Disney Princess films• You should consider typical:– Settings– Technical aspects (camera/ sound/ editing etc...)– Iconography– Narrative – Characters

• Be ready to share this with the class

Choose one of these posters

• Can you identify any generic conventions?

Look at the poster for Frozen• Annotate this poster in detail commenting on:

1. Genre conventions2. Narrative/ themes/ characters3. Representation 4. Targeting and attracting audiences 5. Marketing( persuasive techniques etc...)

– Extension: also consider the mise en scene if you have not already done so (costumes, lighting, colour, body language and facial expressions, props, settings etc...)

– What do these connote? How do they appeal?

• Use a range of terminology throughout • Some of you may want to try a theory or two

Peer Assessment

• Swap with the person two seats to the left of you.

• In a different colour, add 2-3 extra points to their poster analysis

• Make a note of something you could steal for your own.
