Why You Should Join The Frontier

Parents Please read this page before looking at the rest of the Packet

The Adventure Princess program (originally known as the Indian Princesses) was founded under the idea that

fathers and daughters would spend time together and make great memories. The Adventure Princesses fully

understand that in today’s times, the family structure has changed. Throughout this packet, feel free to

exchange the words; dad and father, with grandfather, uncle, or stepfather. The organization currently has several grandfathers in the program with their granddaughters, uncles with their nieces and stepfathers who

have joined with their stepdaughters.

The RIDGEWOOD YMCA Adventure programs involve about 500 families in and around the Parma, North

Royalton, Seven hills and surrounding communities. These programs include the Adventure Princesses as well

as the Adventure Guides (a Father and Son Organization).

These programs have been so successful in the past that they have spawned additional programs. The Pioneer

(originally the Papoose) program for pre-1st graders as well as the Senior Princess and Trailblazers programs

designed to allow the kids to continue on after their 4th year has ended with the Adventure Princess and

Adventure Guides programs.

With the support of the YMCA these programs continue to grow and prosper while maintaining the YMCA’s

high standards for Family values and Community involvement.

Yetta-Hey! (Native American Indian greeting)

My name is Phil Thorne and I will be your 2009 Trail Boss. I have a daughter who is finishing her 4th

and final year in the Princess Program, and a second daughter who is finishing her first year. As you

look at all the activities your daughter can participate in from Girl Scouts, soccer, dance and many more, the Adventure Princesses is one of the unique programs in which the father figure gets to be

involved 100% of the time. When you browse through this packet and look at our calendar of events, it

may seem overwhelming. Just remember you do not have to do every event. Several of our members

participate in only 3 or 4 events a year making memories that will last a lifetime. Several of our events

are geared toward the entire family to enjoy. Dads, I promise, you will have just as much fun as your daughters. Moms, you will meet some great families with the same values that you embrace. This truly

is an awesome program. My family has made memories and friendships that will last forever! Please

come to one of our four-scheduled recruiting rallies to learn more about the program. Moms and

Daughters, if dad seems a little reluctant to go, shove him out the door with his little girl to attend the

meeting. I guarantee you the dads will thank you later on.

Dads---remember the first man your daughter has ever loved is you. Spend time with her and help

make all her dreams come true. Be part of her life now and forever…

Adventure Princesses….Friends Always!!!!!!!!

WELCOME New Forest Territory

My name is Russ Lakatos and my daughter’s name is Jessica. I am the 2008 Trail Boss and will be the 2009 Elder. I will be starting my 8th year in the Princess pro-gram. My first four years with my older daughter Rachel flew by so fast and now

starting my last year with Jessica It is amazing how time goes by so fast. We have made so many friends and have had so much fun It will be hard to leave next year.

Dads take the time to join this great organization with your daughter and start mak-ing those special memories that will last the both of you for the rest of your life. Once you start going to the events and campouts and meeting other people you are

sure to be hooked. Have fun and do as much as you can.

Friends Always, Russ and Jessica Lakatos 2008 Trail Boss

Welcome potential new Forest Territory moms! I thought I would write this note to share a bit of first-hand experience from our family when we joined the Princess group….. When I first signed Jim and Rachel up for Adventure Princesses I hoped it would last a year, but really expected it might only last three months. Jim was so busy with work and going to school himself that he had very little extra time to spend with his family, let alone a “new” activity. All I knew was that Jim was missing out on precious time with his little girls that he would never get back. I knew I needed to find something that would reconnect him to his daughters. Jim was skeptical, not of being with his daughter but of sleeping in a cabin with strangers, participating in hokie ceremonies and wearing weird costumes. But the thing that most concerned him was the time commitment. I asked him to try it. Reluctantly he went to the car rally and as a family we had a lot of fun driving around on the scavenger hunt. This got me past three months but the winter camp sealed the deal. It was cold. It was wet. Jim was in a cabin of people he didn’t know. He fell in love with his daughter all over again. That 48 hours created memories that will last a lifetime. It showed him what he was missing and started him on recreating a relationship with his daughter. That was six years ago and now Rachel has moved on to Senior Princesses and her two sisters, Rebecca and Robin have joined the organization giving Jim an opportunity to bond with each daughter individually. He now looks forward to every event, including the camps, which for him could be three weekends in a row due to the three daughters of different ages. Moms if you are questioning whether your husband would enjoy Adventure Princesses remind him it is about his relationship with his daughter. They can participate in as much or as little as they want, but with each event they will be strengthening a bond that will last forever. I hope your family decides to join – you won’t regret it! Yetta Hey!

Hello everyone, my name is Tim Wolfe and I am in the program with my daughters Brandi and Brieann for three years. We are in the Sun Territory our Outpost name is the Jaguars, we only

have one more year of the program and this will be a sad time for all of us in the Sun to leave the

program, but we will make room for others that are joining and they too will relize how precious

this time really is. The time flies by so quickly and the memories that we had made and are still

making are priceless and will stay with us for the rest of our lives. My girls go to St. Anthony of Padua School and love being involved in school activities and also love being in the Adventure

Princess Program. They look forward to all of the FUN things that we do. Some of those things

are Parades, Campouts, Car Races, Boat Races, Car Rally, Skating, Overnighter, Christmas Party,

Easter Party and so much more. They love to find Officers out and about and collect fluffs for

their fluff trails and get patches at events to put on their vests. They especially like to meet other Fine Dad's and Daughters that are in the program. It is a truly awesome experience that you will

never forget and will never regret. Trust me, the time spent in the activities with our Outpost and

with the organization is truly a flies by.

To all the mom's out there, if my wife would of not told me to join I would of missed out of way too much time that is spent during my girls' prime time of growing and gaining knowledge and

understanding how much Dad's mean to their Daughters.

The Adventure Princess program means so much that just words can't explain. Our motto is

FRIENDS ALWAYS and that we will be.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Welcome New Forest Territory

Hello and welcome to the Members of the New Forest Territory from your outgoing Forest Territory Scouts Sam and Jennifer Santabarbara. You’ve made a great decision to spend some important Dad/Daughter time together. As I

complete my eighth year in the Adventure Princess Program (three daughters), I can tell you the fun and memories will be cherished forever!

As you begin your journey into the Adventure Princess Program (or return with daughter #2 or #3 or #4!!), please try your best to attend as many programs as you can. Believe me, you will be amazed at how fast the four years goes.

When you attend the events, clear your mind of the stresses from work and home and concentrate on having fun. You will find all the events throughout the year are well planned by a great group of officers and Outposts. Lend a hand whenever you can, as it will always be appreciated.

From car races to campouts from horseback riding to parades, you are in for some fun times. Take lots of pictures,

enjoy the fun and make some great memories.

Welcome New Forest Territory!!

As a mother of an Adventure Princess for the past 6 years, I would like to share my experience in the program with new mother’s coming into the Forest Territory.

I had never heard of this program prior to my husband and daughter joining so everything was very new to me. It differs from most of the programs out there as this is a father/daughter program and all the functions are done

together or with the entire family.

The family functions are very enjoyable. We have all had a great time at the boat races and car races. My children will have memories that will last a lifetime with their father.

My girls look so forward to the campouts every year. They have had the opportunity to learn so many new things. The crafts we have collected from the campouts will be memories they can cherish for the rest of their

lives.

The program is very flexible, as you are able to join with a stepfather, grandfather or significant other if your daughter’s father is not available. The functions are also as flexible. You sign up for the one’s you want to

attend. Watching my girls look forward to all of the programs is always a delight for me. I like to see them build their

boats, cars, ornaments, etc. with their dad. They get to be as creative as they like.

We have also developed several strong relationships with other neighborhood families that I know will last a lifetime.

Welcome New Forest Territory… Spend some meaningful time with your daughter!

The Adventure Princess program provides you an opportunity to do so many things, and make many new

friends. Throughout the 4 year program you will see your "little girl" mature into a "young lady". She will

have so many new things to try & will grow so much.

Meetings, Meetings and More Meetings… Go ahead, take a quick look at that calendar page. Did you ever notice

all of those meetings? Did you ever wonder what they were all about? Well, here is a little information on those meetings. Don’t leave yet…

there actually is a reason for this next part. ☺

Officer Meetings

These are held the fourth Thursday of every month (unless it falls on a holiday) at 7:15 PM at Busch

Funeral Home on Ridge Road. This meeting is for officers to discuss and plan Frontier-wide events. Note that this is not an official event. This means that if you arrive at 7:00 PM with Fluff Bag in hand

you just might walk out of there with a few fluffs (pounds?) Maybe even make this an outpost event.

Frontier Meetings

These are held the first Thursday of every month (unless if falls on a holiday) at 7:45 PM at Busch

Funeral Home on Ridge Road. This meeting is for Adventure Princess Dads. It is a really good idea for all dads to attend at least one or two meetings a year. It is an even better idea for at least one dad from

each Outpost to attend every Frontier Meeting. At these meetings plans for upcoming events and

comments concerning past events are shared. If you have a suggestion or idea this is the meeting for

you!

Outpost Meetings

Here is the chance for your Outpost to plan your own events or plan your Outpost’s involvement with

one of the Frontier events. Remember, every Outpost needs to help run a couple of events each year so

that everyone can have a great time. In all honesty sometimes running an event can be more fun than

attending depending upon how many of your friends are there to help. Speaking of which, that schedule of events is in here somewhere. Do you know which event you are working?

Did You Know…

The leather vests are one of the most visible symbols of the Adventure Princess program. Just look

around during the Council Fire March or any of the community parades to see how well our vests show

how proud we are to be Adventure Princesses. Even more amazing is how your vest also helps you to tell your own personal Adventure Princess Story. Go take a look at your vest. Look at those patches (you

might need to ask dad which drawer or coffee cup he has the last few patches hidden in) and think back

to the event that each patch represents. Just look at all of the amazing things you have done.

Adventure Princess Handbook, Page 35

What Stories Do You Have to Share?

Is there some special event or really amazing thing that happened to you or your outpost? Regardless of

your Territory I am sure you have at least one interesting story to share. If you would like to share a

special story please e-mail ([email protected]) it to me. I plan on sharing some of

your stories here in the coming months.

Hi!

My name is Heather Thorne. I want to tell you about the Adventure Princesses from my eyes!

The Adventure Princess program is really fun because you get to spend time with your dad and

meet a bunch of new friends!!!!! You get to do things together like camping, father-daughter

dinner dances, and midnight fluff raids. My favorite event is the Father-daughter dinner dance. I

get to dance with my dad and also my friends. It is funny to see all the dad’s doing the

Macarena!!!! This is my last year as an Adventure Princess, and I am really going to miss it. I

wish it would last another four years!!!

I love being an Adventure Princess…I hope you will too.

Yetta-hey,

From Heather Thorne

Hi!

My name is Holly Thorne. I am in my first year as an Adventure Princess. I like being an

Adventure Princess because it is the best thing in the world. It only lasts four years, and I’d like

it to last ten! I’ve met some new friends. I like going camping with my dad. I’ve even made it

to the top of the rock wall at camp!

Join the Adventure Princesses!!

A story of an Uncle who joins with his Niece

YETTA HEY!

My name is John Kwiatkowski and I am a member of the YMCA Adventure Princesses with my niece

Jessica Robertson. We are in the Firecrackers outpost of the Fire territory.

On June 28, 2006 Jessica’s father unexpectedly passed away. As a result, Jessica and her family

went through many changes. They moved closer to our family in Parma and Jessica and her two brothers

attended a new school. I remember the day that Jessica called me and told me about the YMCA Adventure

Princesses and how a dad and daughter were at her school talking about the organization and the many

different things that they do together. Jessica said that the dad and daughter showed the car and boat that

they built for the car and boat race and they wore the vests that all the dads and daughters wear at camp.

She was very excited and asked me if I would join the Adventure Princesses with her. Without hesitation I

told Jessica that I would join with her. We were very excited to find out that her two cousins and uncles

would be joining also.

Jessica and I are now in our second year and have had a lot of fun together. We have created a lot

of memories together and look forward to many more. The YMCA Adventure Princesses is an organization that I would encourage all dads to join with their daughters and take advantage of the time

that you would be able to spend with your daughter. I feel very lucky because I do not have a daughter and

have been given the opportunity to experience this great program. Jessica has become like a daughter to

me and I will cherish each and every moment that we spend together while in the Adventure Princesses.

My name is Morgan Zabarsky and I love Adventure Princess because I have made real

friends with the girls from our outpost, the Mighty Mustangs. I see them at least once a

month at events or outpost meetings. It is great spending time with my dad, he encourages

me to do things that I have not done before. I really enjoy

doing new things with my dad. My favorite event is

camping because it is great staying up late and sleeping

in the cabin. Another reason I like being in the Adventure

Princesses is that we do things that we would not have

thought of doing otherwise such as the father daughter

dance, the car and boat race.

Why I like Being an Adventure Princess By Christine and Jennifer Santabarbara

I like being an Adventure Princess because it is time we can spend with just our Dad! Also, we have made many new friends. We get to sleep with our friends at Camp and do fun activities like: BB Guns, Archery and our favorite, Horseback Riding!! The best part of the campouts is the big bonfire on Saturday night. We get to sing songs and wear our vests and hats. The meals at the dining hall are great but don’t put your elbows on the table while you eat!! At Camp Fitch, we get to play in Lake Erie and jump in the waves. We also like when we have the Car Race and we get to make and decorate our own special cars. The Car Race is fun also because there is lots of good food and fun games to play in between the races. It is also a lot of fun to go to Outpost meetings at all of our Adventure Princess friend’s houses. One time, we did a project with glue and glitter at my friend Becky’s house. By the time we were done, there was glue and glitter all over the basement!! The Boat Race is another fun event. We get to play in the water, play some fun games and then watch our boats sail through the course. Our time in the Adventure Princesses has been great and we are sure you will love it too.
