From Your Club President,
Terry Gordon
Dear CSC Family,
It has been an amazing August, and it is hard to
believe that fall is upon us. Kudos once again to
everyone who made MMIM a huge success. The MMIM
committee has already met to talk about next year’s party.
Each year we’ve added some new highlights and next
year the fun will continue! The flyer should be out by
December of this year so be on the watch for it!
September holds the promise of some cool weather
for our fall activities. We will be gearing up for Fall
Migration- SOS and will have a Pre-SOS party at Friars.
Thank you to everyone who participated in teaching
shag this summer at Carolina Shag Club Junior Shag
Workshops, Camp Courage, Shagging on Augusta,
Presbyterian College and anywhere else you have had the
opportunity to share our dance.
I hope you have a smooth transition to fall and look
forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
Cheers,
Terry

Dan was walking home from a Halloween party, when he heard a thumping noise behind
him. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. When Dan turned around he saw it was a coffin chasing him.
“HELP!” Dan screamed! He ran into his house and tried to slam the door but the coffin
caught the door and chased him up the steps. Dan ran into the bathroom and grabbed the first
thing he saw, cough drops, and threw them at the coffin….and of course the coffin’ stopped.
I tried to catch fog yesterday morning but I mist.
I took the shell off my racing snail, thinking it would make him run faster. If anything, it made
him more sluggish.
What’s brown and sticky?...a stick.
What did the cat say after eating two Robins lying in the sun? “I just love basking Robins”.

Minutes of Meeting August 9, 2018
6:30: Call to Order by Rick Wilson.
Attending: Rick Wilson, Becky Wilson, Ann Allen, Angie Peloquin, Steve Woodward, Danny Scott,
Randy Smith, Gwyn Smith, Becky Coley, Dan Ellington, Brenda Ellington, Susan Blackwell.
Minutes (July) were presented: Motion to approve made by Ann Allen, 2nd
by Randy Smith.
Discussion: Danny Scott noted he did not suggest password be changed for Pay Pal. He does not
have access to Pay Pal. Minutes approved with note.
Treasurer Report presented: Motion to approve by Danny Scott. 2nd
By Susan Blackwell. No Discussion.
Treasurer report approved.
New Business:
Danny Scott gave report on ACSC Workshop. New officers elected. One new Club, New Bern, NC, voted
into Association. We did not present bid for 2020 Workshop. (Only one club bid party)
Rick Wilson: Concerning Fast Dance fees: Terry Gordon gave her credit card to pay an additional fee to
Fast Dance that was not covered in the one payment made to the Association. Second payment (of
two items that was needed to be paid) was paid. Terry Gordon to be reimbursed for this charge.
Suggestion was made we may need to look at other associations we could use instead of Fast Dance.
Randy Smith noted that he has had to give his credit card to pay for the insurance for our parties. He asked
if we should give our Routing and Checking Account number to pay for all charges for insurance.
Must pay for insurance two (2) weeks prior to each party. Angie Peloquin to discuss this with Joe
Hayden. Committee to look into this for next year.
Old Business:
1) Christmas Party set: Location is Shrine Club, Mauldin. Caterer same as last year (Susan Welch’s
friend). Decorations ordered. At the request of some members it was suggested we look into a new
location for next year. Cost of a new location was a concern.
2) CSC will continue to support Friar’s as they deal with customer issues. We have no control over
payment of tabs. We will encourage members to follow rules and policies.
3) Rick Wilson has Funday(sic) Tickets for sale. $10.00 per ticket. Please help in selling these tickets.
4) Name Tags: We have a small number of Board Tags. Dan Ellington to look into person who
may be able make (sic) name tags for club members.
Continued on next page…
Carolina Shag Club Newsletter - September 2018 P a g e | 26
5) Charity fundraising guideline: Randy Smith noted that after our fundraiser in April (2018) Shrine
Club kept $500.00 deposit to hold our spot for the April 2019 fundraiser. He suggested in the future
a check should be issued to cover this deposit because of accounting purposes. Randy Smith also
suggested that all funds given to our Charities should be done at the end of the year so that all
donations and funds raised are accounted for. Also, he suggested club retain 10% of funds to pay
cost/expenses for each function. This would include Silent Auction for MMIM Party. Randy Smith
made a formal motion that we keep 10% of funds raised for club to cover any expense, 2nd
by Angie
Peloquin (for purpose of discussion only). Discussion: After a very lengthy discussion it was noted
that we cannot change this year (2018) but a committee can be formed to discuss 2019. At this time
all funds from Spring Fund Raiser is split after expenses. No expense deducted from MMIM Silent
Auction or Jr. Dancing for Dollars, Ellen Taylor Foundation. It was suggested club form a
committee to draw up guidelines for our Charity Fundraising. At this point Randy Smith
withdraws his motion. Becky Coley made motion to form a committee, 2nd
by Randy Smith.
Approved. To be discussed at later date.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Steve Woodard: 299 members
MMIM: Steve Woodard: Great 2018 party. Total with weekend/day tickets: 230 attending. Committee to
meet and discuss if we should have MMIM Party 2019 because of all the different parties and lack
of numbers attending. Danny Scott asked to be a part of that committee.
Ways & Means: Not attending. (Dan Ellington stated at the MMIM we profited $500+ because of efforts of
Dot Morgan, B. Martin, Dee Snyder and Dan Ellington). Also, the new marquee was a great
addition to let people know how much the jackpot had grown.
Social: Not here but, Trashy Fashion will not work this year due to conflict at Friar’s. Will reschedule for
2019.
Charities: Not present – (Other items discussed above)
