Both artists have guitars in the pictures with them, this was something I was aiming for when choosing a front cover image as it is something that will appeal to the audience and is an iconic rock instrument.

Although the artist used on my magazine isn’t wearing black and white the clothes that he is wearing are casual and not dressy. This was done on purpose to give a more ‘laid back’ image rather than a made up image.

Both artists are giving direct audience address by looking in the camera. This captures the audiences attention making them more drawn in some sense to the magazine.

Both images are taken in a environment with no props being used except from the guitar. I feel this makes the picture look more relaxed and less forced compared to some photo shoots which are staged.

When looking at the images you can see differences as well. In this case the picture of Keith Richards looks more relaxed than the one of the model I used as he’s sat on the floor compared to my model who is standing.

The clear difference between these two models is that Keith Richards is a much older artist in the music industry and much older in comparison to the model I used. The reason for my choice if a younger model is to attract a younger audience to the magazine.

The guitar is another difference as although both pictures use a guitar the picture with Keith Richards has the whole guitar in whereas the picture of my model is more discrete. The more show of the guitar shows the passion which is what I could have aimed for on my front cover as in my article of my artist he states that his guitar is his ‘best friend’

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

When I found this picture of Slash I decided to show it to the model featuring on the front of my magazine to see his views. He really liked the whole image and the set so we decided to take some pictures with a similar set to see how

we could portray the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll scene through the imagery used.

There are a range of similarities in the picture. For example the set on the Slash picture is very similar to the set that I and the model had created, this includes the alcohol that is placed around the model, the cigarette and the props around like the amp to get the music aspect coming through. Although there are differences as well, the model in my picture has more of a set compared to the picture of slash as the background isn’t plain and there is more going on, whereas the other picture is more plain and more photo shoot type. There are also many similarities in how the two models are dressed. As you cans see Slash is wearing cowboy boots, skinny jeans and a black top with little white text on and the model I have used is wearing almost identical clothing except from the fact that his t-shirt is all black compared to the other picture.
