Format- teaser trailer

DURATION - To follow the typical duration of the trailers I had researched, our teaser trailer was 1.13 minutes long. Many of the teaser trailer I looked at were around this length as to give away information about the movie but not show too much as to leave the audience on a cliff hanger.

EDITING STYLE - In order to make our teaser trailer tense we used cut to black, we also gradually sped the shots up at the end to increase the audience's empathy to the main character shown as the way the teaser speeds up relates to him coming to a breaking point. ‘Cool tones filter’ was used to give darker tones to the image of the shot which adds to the sinister aspect of the trailer indicating to the audience the genre.

USE OF SOUND - The sound also plays a big part in creating the mood for the teaser trailer, in our trailer we aimed to give across our genre through the use of dark, low tones throughout with rumbling and a heart beat at the end to intensify the trailer.

NARRATIVE INFORMATION - Our trailer followed the normal conventions of a teaser trailer by only supplying the audience with little information as to heighten their interest into learning more about the film. We used three title pages throughout to briefly describe the outline of plot.

GRAPHICS - We placed the title at the end of the trailer as we noticed this where it appears in nearly all teaser trailers we watched. This leaves the name of the trailer in the viewer's mind. The font we chose for this was fairly basic because we wanted to keep a simplistic element throughout, it is very bold and massively stands out against the dark background as the title is white this is to draw the attention of the audience to the title.

Teaser trailer researchIn order for our teaser trailer to follow the conventions of a normal trailer I analysed a teaser trailer from youtube of Captain America Civil War. The main things I noticed was how the camera work used was vital in the portrayal of the character/s. Another key element to the teaser trailer was the colour scheme used and how that continued throughout, the colour is very important to showing the audience the tone of the film.

PosterLayout conventions - ‘The steel tones’ credited at the bottom of the poster was used as all film poster have that to give credits. Reviews and stars were also used on this poster as this also gives a more real feel to the poster as many upcoming movie posters contained reviews. A ‘coming soon’ text was put in the corner as we have not given a release date on the poster so need to give more information about the film away to an audience into to create anticipation. The title was large and in the middle of the poster as it is important the actual title is eye catching to the audience.- stars - reviews -

Magazine To make the magazine convincely ‘Sight and Sound’ we had to follow the typical look and layout of the cover. Including in this was putting all text at the bottom of the cover apart from the sight and sound logo, also to make sure the bullet points at the bottom replicated the colour of the logo. The image we used in the cover also was chosen based on other covers of the magazine we looked at as a close up of the featured person is generally used.

Genre conventions

Typical Horror/thriller characters would include a misunderstood protagonist much like our main character, for example the main male character in ‘The House at the end of the street’(2012) who appears relatively harmless but ends up being a catalyst to all the danger.

Typical narrative for a less supernatural horror a general plot would be about a psychopath who kidnaps one person or several in order to gain some sort of revenge or just fulfill an obsession they have which leads in death or injury for the victim our plot has similarities to this.

Typical characters main characters in Horror thrillers are generally a male/female with a mission or task they have personally set themselves to achieve.Examples of this would be Taken (2008)and Lucy(2014)

Institutional conventions Hollywood present films on a massive scale in order to gain as much awareness before release as possible. To do this they use many different types of publicity such as posters, billboards but the main way used now is through social media such as twitter or youtube by releasing teaser trailers and interviews with stars from the film. As well as having pages on each popular network for the film on sites such as facebook and instagram.

Independent films take a different approach as they may not have the funds or connections to be able to create such a large advertising campaign. Some use events such as films festivals to promote their film. Although independent films still use the internet and social networks as a massive tool to create awareness for their film as it is generally a free and easy way to attract the target audience.

How would you expect company information to be presented.

In most films and trailers the company information would be presented firstly as an ident in the very beginning of the trailer, this would occur in independent and hollywood films.

Also used at the end of the trailers are generally credits which give information on the movie and how to find it online using hashtags. Also shown would be the production company and other companies used in the film.
