Everyone should keep themselves fitand healthy. The Ministry of Healthoccasionally issues public notices about healthcare so that we the people can avert possiblehealth hazards caused by seasonal diseases.Basically, people need to read these advices.

Now, summer is setting in, and we aregoing to lose more water and mineral salt fromour bodies, which makes us fatigued and dizzywith high body temperature. To deal with thissituation, we need to take a lot of water andrehydrated salt solution. We should avoidtaking a bath, shampooing hair and washingface with cold water shortly after we haveexposed ourselves to the sun for a long time.

We should take an umbrella, hat, light-coloured or loose dresses to protect ourselvesfrom day-time temperatures. Older peopleand children should stay in sheltered placeswith good ventilation.

Health care is everybody’s concern. So,we should join hands together in measures forpersonal hygiene, sanitation, hygienic foodand safe water, and honour public noticesabout health care.

In Myanmar, sanitation and personalhygiene have been on the list of priorities fordecades. Preventive measures as well astreatment are important in community healthcare. We can prevent infected diseases if wecare for personal hygiene and keep our homesand compounds clean.

We will, therefore, remain in great shapeif we adhere to the practice of keeping ourselvesand the things around us clean, have hygienicfood only, take garbage system, and obeypublic notices about health care.

MOHMAND, 20 Feb—Pakistani troops killed upto 15 militants after dozens of militants attacked asecurity checkpoint in a northwestern tribal regionon the Afghan border Sunday, a senior governmentofficial said.

Troops have killed more than 100 militants inthe past month in small-scale operations againstmilitants’ strongholds in the Mohmand tribalagency. But militants often melt away, set upstrongholds elsewhere or try to return to areas theylost.

Cosmic census finds crowd of planets in ourgalaxy

WASHINGTON, 20 Feb—Scientists have estimatedthe first cosmic census of planets in our galaxy andthe numbers are astronomical: at least 50 billionplanets in the Milky Way.

At least 500 million of those planets are in thenot-too-hot, not-too-cold zone where life could exist.The numbers were extrapolated from the early resultsof NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler telescope.

Kepler science chief William Borucki saysscientists took the number of planets they found inthe first year of searching a small part of the night skyand then made an estimate on how likely stars are tohave planets. Kepler spots planets as they passbetween Earth and the star it orbits.

So far Kepler has found 1,235 candidate planets,with 54 in the Goldilocks zone, where life couldpossibly exist. Kepler’s main mission is not toexamine individual worlds, but give astronomers asense of how many planets, especially potentiallyhabitable ones, there are likely to be in our galaxy.They would use the one-four-hundredth of the nightsky that Kepler is looking at and extrapolate fromthere.—Internet

Antimatter is like a mirror image of matter. For every matter particle (say an electron,for example), a matching antimatter particle is thought to exist (in this case, a positron) withthe same mass, but an opposite charge.

SAN DIEGO, 20 Feb—Many young baseballplayers, parents and coaches have seriousmisconceptions about the causes of pitching-relatedelbow injuries and the benefits of having a commonelbow procedure called Tommy John surgery,according to a new survey.

Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction is themedical term for the surgery, named after formerMajor League pitcher Tommy John, the firstprofessional athlete to successfully undergo theprocedure.

“Despite the recognized risk of pitch type andamount of pitches, nearly a third of those wesurveyed did not believe pitch counts were a riskfactor for injury,” the survey’s lead author, DrChristopher Ahmad of Columbia University’sCenter for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine,said in a news release from the AmericanOrthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

“Even more disturbing was the fact that aquarter of players and coaches thought that apitcher’s performance could be enhanced by havinga Tommy John surgery,” Ahmad said.

He and his colleagues surveyed 189 players,15 coaches and 31 parents.

They described as alarming their finding that51 percent of high school players believed elbowsurgery should be performed even if a playerdoesn’t have an injury, with the sole goal ofimproving performance.

Sounds of thebulldozers at theconstruction site in PaleTownship, SagaingRegion, are a sign ofimprovement of thesocio-economic status ofresidents.

Previously, thevillages in PaleTownship had onlydistant relations witheach other due to poortransport. In particular,some parts of the villageson the highlands ofPontaung Mountainrange had no roads, andwalking was the onlymeans of transport.

In 2010-2011, nineinter-village roadsstretching 29 miles intotal are being built toform a network in orderto improve transport,education, health careand socio-economic lifeof local people. They are

The buildingof those inter-villageroads is now in full swingthanks to the aegis ofMinister for InformationU Kyaw Hsan who takesinto considerationdevelopment of PaleTownship despite alwaysworking to a tightschedule, and free servicewith bulldozers by ShweTaung Co.

So far, Ayechantha-Thitkyitaing road (fourmiles and three furlongs),Thitkyitaing-Hsebyin-Thekkeikyin road (twomiles and four furlongs)and Thitkyitaing-Kyawtaw road (twomiles) have been built.Kye ty in -Gaungbwa-Letpan road (six miles) isunderway.

Owing to the newly-

built roads, locals in thenorthern part of the hillyregion in Pale Townshipcan travel to and fromWetkya Station Hospitaland Wetkya BasicEducation High Schoolthrough Falambin Roador Myaukyama DamRoad; Pale-GangawRoad through Wetkyaand Leigan villages; andthe villages on Falambin-Hsebaung Road.

My heart was filledwith rejoicing when I sawthe newly-built inter-village roads coping witha stream of vehicles suchas bikes, motorbikes,motorized trailers andcars.

According to myfirst-hand knowledge, thedevelopment of transport,education, health careand social affairs is like adream for the 23,971

Damsels from thevillage said, “While wewere at school, transportwas very poor. We had

to go to school on foot,which took us a longtime. It was worse in therainy season. Now, wehave all got our degrees.But, our juniors arelucky. Inter-villageroads have been built,so they can go to schoolby bicycle or bymotorbike. We are veryhappy with it.”

In like manner,many local peoples fromhilly villages expressedtheir heartfelt thanks forthe roads.

An Australian hamlet has changed its name to“SpeedKills” to encourage drivers to slow downafter a leap in road deaths.

The community of Speed, population 45, hasmade the switch for a month, while local farmerPhil Down was also temporarily renamed PhilSlow Down at a ceremony on Friday.

“I’m happy to humiliate myself for that cause,”he told AAP news agency.
