St.Alphonsus/St.PatrickSchoolOpenHouse As many people are aware, our St.Alphonsus/St.PatrickSchool has established itself as one of the best Catholic School communities through its excellence in academics, athletics and service. Our students have won or placed in the top 10 in many regional Academic Bowls for the past few years and our various sports teams have done extremely well too. Our students have also been great examples of service through their generosity and compassion towards various clothing and food drives. This weekend, our St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School Annual SchoolOpenHouse will take place on Sunday,January27th from 10:00a.m.–2:00p.m. at 30 W. Davey Road, Lemont, IL. 60439. Please stop by to learn more about our great school and all of the wonderful skills that our students are learning! MovedbytheHolySpirit This is a time of the year where a number of our young parishioners experience events of the Holy Spirit. Last Sunday, Jan. 20th, our 8th Grade Con irmation Candidates participated in the PresentationoftheCreed service during our weekend Masses. This was an inspiring experience when those gathered in the church proclaim what we believe in. Through the support of their Con irmation Sponsors and the St. Alphonsus Parish Community, our Candidates promised that they will continue on their journey to receiving the Holy Spirit in Con irmation. On Saturday, Jan. 26th, the 2nd Grade students of our St. Alphonsus/ St. Patrick Catholic School and our St. Alphonsus Religious Education Program celebrated the SacramentofReconciliation. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to receive God’s Spirit of forgiveness and make a change in their lives for the better. CatholicLeadership360Review Every 5-6 years, the Archdiocese of Chicago reviews the priests that are serving in parish ministry. I had my last review in 2013 and it is time to have another formal review of my ministry at St. Alphonsus Church from parishioners and staff members. Below is the formal invitation to my review process from the Archdiocese of Chicago and instructions on participating online. We will provide paper copies of the evaluation form in the Narthex of the church as well. Welcome Guests and Visitors. . . We’re so glad that you’re here and invite you to join us in thanksgiving for God’s action in our lives. Our goal is to provide a spiritual home where all are welcome, where the healing, reconciling, liberating love of God flows through us to all people. In this way, we believe that the Church is the sacrament of God’s saving presence in the world.
“Please come to Mass early enough not to disrupt. Leave late enough not to insult (the Mass does not end until the final blessing).
Worship reverently enough not to distract. Dress proudly enough not to offend.”
Shopping Online can Earn Donations for our Parish! There is a growing trend for large brands and retail stores to donate a portion of every purchase to a charity of your choice. These donations are not added to your purchase price, but are taken from the retailer’s own bottom line. These donations can now be directed to St. Alphonsus Parish! It’s easy. To make sure a portion of every purchase you make on Amazon goes to our parish, simply use smile.amazon.com instead of www.amazon.com. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to our parish. Same products, same prices, same service! Once on smile.amazon.com, under “Or pick your own charitable organization”, search for St. Alphonsus Parish. Select the one associated with the Lemont IL location, and START SHOPPING! It’s as simple as that!

Religious Education Update
Kevin Cody, DRE, 630-257-2371, [email protected], www.st-als.org/rel-edu
CARE FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR CHILD As Catholic parents, we know that the soul is the only part of our child that will live forever, but sometimes we put off nurturing it in favor of more immediate priorities. Yet it’s important to build good spiritual habits while children are young, so they are ingrained as they go off to college into adulthood. Consider these ideas for raising a strong, healthy soul in your child: Feed the soul like you would the body. Spiritual nourishment comes from attending Mass regularly, eating the Sacred Meal, strengthening relationships in Reconciliation, and praying daily… as individuals and as a family. Educate the soul. Take advantage of opportunities the parish provides for religious education… whether it is part of our parish RE Program or our school. Give religion homework the same priority as any other subject. Be involved in your child’s religious education. Show by example. When we teach our child to ride a bike or tie their shoe, we do so by showing them how. Make sure to also show your child ways to live their faith. Discuss what you do to keep your own soul healthy & strong. Daily exercise is key. One only gets better with practice. Make sure your child practices his faith every day. Prayer and service to others are two everyday habits that start in childhood. Embrace our RE theme and challenge your child to create a holy moment each day.
MEET A NEW CATECHIST Ann Baillie is a youth librarian who volunteered to be a 5th Grade catechist because she wants to be part of providing children with an experience of the love of Jesus and the Church. She also sees this ministry as an opportunity to explore and learn about her own faith “with these amazing kids!” We very much appreciate the passion and creativity that Ann has brought to our program.
CATECHIST RESOURCE DAY Catechists from our parish will be joining with catechists from the Southwest area of the Archdiocese for an afternoon retreat on Sunday afternoon. The guest speaker will be Fr. Dominic Grassi. Please keep our catechists in your prayers.
