Hello!MynameisAllisonMartinandIamthenewlyappointedVicePresidentofAlumnaeRelations.Iamextremely

excitedtogettoworkandconnectwithallofyouthissemester.I

havealotofthingsinstorethatIcannotwaitforyoualltosee!

ThispastsemesterhasplayedamajorrolefortheEpsilonZeta

Chapter.Wehaveaccomplishedsomuchinthisshortamountof

time,aswellasgrowingourforeverstrongsisterhood.Wehavepulledourmysticbondtogethertoperformandcompetein

GreekWeek.Thisallowedustoplaceinthetopthreesororities

forthesecondyearinarow!Wealsowereprivilegedenoughto

gaintwonewbeautifulnewmemberclassesthissemester.

GreekWeek2013atWKUIhadthehonorofbeingCostume

chair.Itwasnosurprisetohearmynamecalledtobenominated

forthispositionbecauseeveryoneknewIlovedtodesign.Partof

holdingthispositionwasdesigningalloftheoutfitsthegirls

woreduringtheirspringsingperformance.Thispositionwasquitehardandfunatthesametime.Itwasverytimeconsuming

andalotoflatenightsandweekends.Ilovesewingand

designingthingsandbecauseofthisitmadethepositionfun.

Beingafreshman,Iwasreallyunsureofeverythingthatthis

weekwasgoingtoconsistof.Ihadtocomeupwiththreefull

hadtoworkwithallthespringsingchairstocoordinatethe

costumeswiththedanceandthepropssothateverythingwould

lookandgotogether.

withinSigmaKappa.Itwasarealjoyandexcitementforme,and

maybewithinthenextfewyearsofhavingthisposition,and

perfectingit,Icancreatethecostumesandhavethemdone

earliertoallowformoreelaboratedesi ns.

ofcollege,takingeverythingstepbystep

tryingnottomessup.Iheardabout

recruitmentandwasnotsurehowIfeltabout

it,sororitywasinmybloodandmymother

andcousinsthoughtIshouldgiveitatry.

WhenIreceiveaphonecalltocometothe

SigmaKappacookoutattheirhouseandwas

overjoyed.Iwassoexcitedtogoandmeetallthesenewgirlsandhaveafuntime!Beingat

thecookout,IknewthisiswhereIwantedto

be,thesegirlswerethegirlsIknewIcouldbe

friendswithfor earstocome.willgofarinwhateverpaththeychoose.Iknewoncebeginninginthe

sorority,thisiswhatsisterhoodreallywas.Iwouldknow,coming

fromanall-girlshighschool.TherewasneveratimeincollegeIfelt

lonelyorIhadnoonetotalkto,IknewIcouldalwaysgotothehouse

andsisterswouldbetheretohangoutandhavehearttohearts.The

"ToyStory"song"You'vegotafriendinme"isagreatquotetorepresentmyfirstyearinSigmaKappa.Mysistersalwayshaveeach

SigmaKappaevenmorevaluable.

IamproudtobeaSigmaKappa.Icancallthesewomenmysisters.I

knowIwillalwayshaveafriendinthem.Joiningwasoneofthebest

choicestomake.Thesewomenaremyfamilybutalsoahome.

ThispastspringtheEZchapterofSKwasthrilledtohaveachancetomake

animpactonourcommunity.WestartedthesemesteroffwithourannualCanYouDuetUltraVioletfundraiser.Initsfourthyearthisduettalent-

basetowardtheSigmaKappaFoundation.Thisyearwehadourhighestnumber

ofactsyet,includingcomedyraps,danceroutines,andlovesongs.We

cannotthankthosewhohelpedmakethispossibleenough,especiallyour

Alumnae!

Inadditiontoourusualphilanthropicefforts,EpsilonZetajustrecently

adoptedahighwayoff31-W.OnApril7thourchapterexcitedlytooktothe

streetwithKappaSigmatocleanourhighwayforthefirsttime.Vice

highwaywasagreatwaytohangoutwithsisters,whiledoingourparttohelpInherittheEarth.Icannotwaittocontinuemaintainingourhighway

InthePanhelleniccommunity,SigmaKappapairedwithAlphaDeltaPito

raisefundsforCircleofSisterhood.CircleofSisterhoodisacharityfounded

byGinnyCarroll,anAlphaXiDeltafromWesternKentuckyUniversityand

isthenationalcharityforPanhellenic,aimedateducatingwomenabroad.

ThetwosororitiespairedtogethertosellpopsiclesinCentennialMallon

enoughtosendagirltoschoolforayear.WecannotwaittopairwithAlpha

education.Asyoucansee,wehavebeenverybusy,workingtomakeourcommunitya

betterplacewithatotalof1493hoursofserviceforthispastsemester.We

cannotwaittocontinueourserviceeffortsnextsemester!Wehopetosee

LikemanysistersintheHonorsCollegeatWKU,IhavebeenworkingonmyCapstoneThesisExperiencefor

thepastyear.Formyproject,IwasabletoworkwithArtteacherDebbieLockyearandsixtyfifthgrade

studentsfrommyhometowntocreateagiant,moveablemuralthatwilltravelaroundKentuckyforthenext

year.Themuralwasdesignedbythestudentsandexpressestheirchildlikeidealsofpeaceinaglobal

conflictresolution,communitybuilding,andartappreciation.CompletingmuralregisteredKentuckyintheKidsGuernicaInternationalPeaceMural

Project.Myteamwasthefirstentryfromourstate,thankstothefunding

providedbytheFUSEgrant,andFundfortheArts.

presentitasafeaturedspeaker.Duringthelastyear,itwasshowcasedon

severalLouisvilleandBowlingGreennewsstationsandevenonthecover

mysistehavebeensoundingboardsforideas,proof-readersofgrantapplications,andparticipantsinpracticelessonbeenhonoredtorepresentSigmaKappainthiswayandlookforwardtotherestofthisadventure.

Wehavealreadybeenworkinghardthisyeartoprepareforrecruitment!Thissummer,wehadourfirst

ecruitmentworkshopinJune.Duringthistime,wecrafted,bonded,andpracticedconversationwith

neanother.OurnextworkshopwillbetheweekendofJuly20!Ifyouarenotdoinganythingandare

ntheBowlingGreenarea,pleasestopby!OurworkshopwillbeheldintheUTSBookstorelocated

crosstherailroadtracksbytheRegistryApartments.
