FROM THE PRINCIPAL PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SUCCESS Many of our school community would know that since the rezoning and the construction of units around our school I have raised concerns about student safety with the increased traffic. This culminated in a community meeting at our school in October of last year. One of our suggestions was the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing in Essex Street. Last week I received notification of a proposal by the council of just that. Whilst the wheels of government do turn slowly, it is still very encouraging to know that our students who walk from school towards the Epping Shops will have a safe place to cross. NAPLAN Next week our students in Years 3 and 5 will be completing their National Assessment Program for Literacy And Numeracy (NAPLAN). Parents have received information via the coordinators of our School NAPLAN Team. There is more information in this week’s newsletter. As at all times but especially during NAPLAN Week, ensure that your child attends school unless they are genuinely ill. OUTSTANDING PAYMENTS Despite original and reminder notices regarding the non-payment of Term 1 Invoices, there is a great number of people who have not paid. Our parents have always supported our school by paying their invoices and this has resulted in our ability to ensure that students are equipped with the best and most modern resources. It also allows us to run extra programs for the benefit of students. We budget for the payment of these invoices and without them I will need to limit the resources we purchase and the programs we operate. This will affect our ability to deliver the quality educational programs we have delivered in the past. I will be sending home a final reminder to those parents who have not paid their Term 1 invoices and encourage them to do so and allow us to purchase all the resources we require and run all the programs we would like to run. John Ford Principal INFORMATION SESSION FOR PARENTS

Would you like more information about the writing programs at Epping Public School? On Tuesday 21 May, the Big Writing team will be conducting a short seminar to outline our expectations for beginning writers and the strategies that students use to uplevel their writing in our classrooms. We will be using the spare classroom at the end of the main building corridor. The session will commence at 3.30pm. I anticipate that it will last about 25mins. Everyone is welcome to attend. Some child care will be available. Hope to see you then.

MOTHERS’ DAY STALL Our annual Mothers’ Day Stall is this Thursday & Friday morning! The stall will be located outside the hall and item prices a very affordable $5 and $10. Come along and purchase a wrapped gift for your mum, grandma or special mother-figure. All funds raised are used by the P&C to provide extra resources for our students. Please note payment is by cash only. FEDERAL ELECTION DAY BBQ TO GO AHEAD! A big thank you to KY dad Trung Ngyuen who has kindly volunteered to coordinate the upcoming Federal Election Day BBQ on Saturday 18 May! Further good news, Bendigo Bank Epping has offered to sponsor the event to the amount of $500. Thank you to our hardworking Grants Committee who secured the sponsorship. Do thank the staff at Bendigo Bank Epping next time you visit. We will only be proceeding with the BBQ, not the Cake Stall this time. This will ensure a faster set up and pack up. We will also stop BBQ'ing a little earlier than last time, to ensure an earlier finish time for our hard working volunteers. We didn't have enough BBQ volunteers last time. We would love to see more new faces this time to share the load. If you can help, please see the flyer elsewhere in the newsletter. If you prefer to serve, not grill on the BBQ, please indicate that when you RSVP. Also note the menu will consist of bacon, eggs, onion and sausages (beef and chicken). Encourage your friends and neighbours to vote at EPS. 100% of profits go to P&C projects which support our students. Any BBQ queries, please email Trung on [email protected] 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn

Parent Morning Tea Cheltenham Girls’ High School and Ms Helena Choi our Community Liaison Officer, will be hosting a morning tea for parents, carers and grandparents in Week 5 and 9 each term starting 27th May 2019.

We would like to welcome any parents of prospective Yeat 7 students to give them an opportunity to familiarise themselves with school community and processes, as well as meet and socialise with other parents and families. This is not a P & C meeting or an enrolment seminar, it is simply morning tea for sharing and building community harmony. Parents with small children are welcome and we have a toy/play box. Ms Choi can speak Cantonese and some Mandarin, so families who feel they need some language support are welcome. Where: Cheltenham Girls High School Staff Common room. The Promenade, Cheltenham.
