Every Opportunity for your Child

FROM THE PRINCIPAL OPEN DAY This Wednesday we will celebrate Open Day at Epping Public School. Whilst the ongoing construction will limit us,

we still have activities which showcase our school and the students. We invite parents, relatives and friends to join

us. The outline of the day is below.

9:30am – Open Classrooms. During this time parents and or visitors will be invited into the children’s classroom to have a look at their work. Children will also have the opportunity to take their parent to other parts of the school which will be open at this time. These are listed below. Due to the confined space there is no book fair this year but we do hope to bring back the book fair in 2020. 10:30am – Stage Performances. Each stage will perform a song in the hall for our visitors. Students will be brought to

the hall, perform and return to their classroom. The day will conclude with the final performance.

During Open Classrooms their will also be opportunity for children and their visitors to visit other sites in the school.

Information Booth – This booth is being set up by the project team for our new building. You will find lots of

information including plans, photos and brochures. You will be able to ask questions about the construction.

School Library – Our Library will have on display the books which have been nominated for the 2019 Book of the

Year, in the varying categories.

EAL/D Rooms – Many of our students attend the EAL/D rooms to support their learning. On display will be resources

that our EAL/D teachers use.

Computer Lab – In the Computer Lab our Stage 2 students will be demonstration Coding.

CAPA Room – There will be a display of contemporary furniture that is currently in our classrooms. This is the type of

furniture that will be found in our new building. You will be able to ask questions about it.

Sports Field – The sports field was completed last September and whilst many of our community have seen the field,

this is an opportunity if you have not.

Hearing Room – We have a Hearing Unit attached to our school, but this unit works with deaf or hearing impaired

students across the district. They will have the latest in hearing technology available for anyone interested.

TERM STATEMENTS Term statements for each student will be posted home today or tomorrow. We have chosen to deliver them this way

in the hope that they are received and paid, without the need for time to be used following up unpaid statements.

Should there be a balance brought forward on your statement, this means that our records indicate that there is an

outstanding amount for non-payment of Dance Lessons, Moving Bodies or the School Athletics Carnival from Term 2.

If this is incorrect please contact the school, if not include the amount in this term’s payment. As indicated

previously students will be withdrawn from extra-curricular activities if these remain unpaid. As always if there is an

issue with payment please contact me via the school office. All calls will be treated confidentially.

SEMESTER 2 PLANS On Friday Semester Two Stage Plans were sent home. These plans outline the teaching and learning that will happen throughout semester two, and highlight any important dates or excursions for each stage. Please read and add important dates to your diary.

Unfortunately the Stage Three Plan that was sent home contained some inaccurate information. A revised copy of the Plan has been sent home today.

CHOIR SUCCESS Last week our Junior, Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs competed at the Ryde Eisteddfod. Well done to all of our students

for their effort and behaviour. I would like to congratulate our Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs who both received ‘Highly

Commended’ for their performance. I would also like to acknowledge the time put in by our teachers for coaching

the choirs and allowing the students opportunities like this.

GLASS CONTAINERS We have noticed that some students are bringing their lunch to school in glass containers. Following on from last

week glass is also dangerous for students to have on a crowded playground. Broken glass can cause serious injury

and as such is banned from the playground. Please do not send children’s lunches in glass containers. We look to

your support in this matter.

NEWS FROM THE P&C

P&C Calendar - Term 3 2019 Meetings - All welcome Tuesday 13 August (Week 4) – P&C meeting held from 6.30pm (Staff Room)

Tuesday 20 August (Week 5) – Interrelate from 6pm

Thursday 22 & Friday 23 August (Week 5) – Fathers’ Day Stall 8:50-9:20am

P&C Contacts President - Jong Chung - [email protected] V/President - Marissa Kelly - [email protected] Secretary - Sarah O'Neill - [email protected] Treasurer - Amandeep Sidhu - [email protected] Interrelate Every two years the P&C invites an Interrelate Educator to attend our school and deliver a Family Evening Program. The educators are highly trained to deliver age-appropriate programs to assist children and parents/caregivers communicate with each other about fundamental development issues. This is an optional activity and students must be accompanied by their parent or caregiver. Please see the flyers elsewhere in the newsletter for an Overview and Permission/Payment information. Please note specialty books will be available for purchase on the night. Payment by credit/debit card only please. ** As the current coordinator will no longer be at the school in two years’ time, we are seeking a new coordinator for this activity to come along and learn the ropes. It’s a very simple role and a parent who still has few years left at EPS would be perfect! ** If interested, please contact Marissa Kelly at [email protected] New Event Coordinators Needed! We have been very lucky over the years to have a very supportive parent group who is committed to organising fun events for the children. Not only do these events raise some much needed additional funds which are put back into resources for the children, just as importantly these activities are fun and create special, life long memories for our children. As the school has been rapidly growing, unfortunately the number of new coordinators hasn’t. This year and next year we will lose almost all of our event coordinators as their youngest child moves onto high school. To ensure all the children continue to enjoy these fun events, year in, year out, its critical that new volunteers step forward to take on these coordinator roles now (especially while us ‘oldies’ are still around to teach you the ropes!) As we have not had a Fundraising Coordinator for a couple of years now the P&C will try a new approach. We have decided to allocate events to each stage. For the remainder of the year, we have the following events. If you are a Class Parent or regular parent in any of these stages, we would love to have a couple of parents volunteer to coordinate. As usual, the events also require many parent volunteers to help out on the day Father’s Day Stall (Stage 1 – Yrs 1&2) This year’s Fathers’ Day Stall will be held on Thursday 22 August and Friday 23 August (Wk 5) before school outside the Hall. Please see the flyer for details. A huge thank you to Mira of Class 1R who has kindly volunteered to help. Gifts will be wrapped at her home, a short walk from school. More details on this to follow soon. We still require one or two more coordinators. In particular parents who can liaise direct with the school with organising setting up etc. We are fortunate to have great teachers and staff who are very supportive of P&C activities and of course a P&C representative will help you get started and provide guidance. Current P&C members will soon be

leaving the school, moving onto high school, so it’s important we have some new parents step up to fill this void (and its not a job for life!). Additionally, we will need volunteers on the day to help set up, serve and pack up. If you are available anytime between 8am-10am on the two days, please email: [email protected]. Whilst we are targeting Yr 1 and Yr 2 parents for this event, of course offers of help from any parent/carer will be gratefully accepted. Please let us know on the email address provided. Spooky Disco (Stage 2 – Yrs 3&4) We are still seeking 2-3 parents to coordinate this event. This is always a popular event which many of the children look forward to. Its around late October (Wk 2 or 3, Term 4) and will most likely need to be off-site again this year. A DJ will need to be booked soon so we’d love to hear from some new coordinators. Previous coordinators are more than happy to meet up and share their learnings. If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact Marissa Kelly: [email protected] Canteen News

A reminder that canteen will be closed for lunch orders on Wednesday 7 August due to School OPEN DAY activities, but will open during the lunch break to sell snacks, drinks and icy treats over the counter. Thank you EPS Canteen Committee
