1. PROJECT MANAGEMENT DATABASE

Project management displayed all the information contained in a project. Here you

can manage your project files such as:

a) Import / Export project.b) Back up / Restore project.c) Creating Basic Project.d) Creating Project Template.e) Sending Project via email.f) Compress and Reorganize project.g) Opening, rename, copying and delete project.h) Editing Project Properties.i) Outputting Project Information.

Eplan project can be import and export ( in .epj format) in the project management.

To import a project

Project > Management > Organize > Import

Back up / Restore project.

To back up a project

Project > Management > Choose A Project > Organize > Back up

Select the method you want use to back up your files and the medium where youwant your back up to be stored. Press OK when you done.

Saving Method

Store Additionally Backing up copies the project to the target data

medium. In other words, the project remainsavailable in exactly the same form.

File Off for external processing The file-off function is used to copy the project tothe target data medium for additional external

editing or modification. The original project is then

locked to prevent any modifications being made to

it. Thus, only the filed-off project can be changed.

You can, however, open the original project on a

read only basis.

Archive Archiving is used to file completed projects to atarget data medium. The entire original project is

deleted from the current hard disk, leaving only an

information file. Archived projects are also

identified by a special symbol in the project

selection windows.

Creating Basic Project.

When you create a basic project from an existing project, the pages and all project-specific settings are saved in the basic project. A basic project has the ebp suffix.

When you create a project from a basic project, the following settings from the basicproject are adopted in the new project:

All project related settings. Project related settings are the settings underOptions > Settings > Projects > "Project name".Schemes for the page and device structure.

All pages. All pages in the basic project are adopted in the new project. Sincethe pages are adopted you cannot change the page structure in the newly

created project.

Create a new name for your project template and click save.

Project template

When you create a project template from an existing project, all project-specificsettings and the schemes for the project structure are saved. A project template hasthe ept suffix.

When you create a project from a project template, the following data and settingsare adopted:

All project related settings. Project related settings are the settings underOptions > Settings > Projects > "Project name".Schemes for the page and device structure. Since no pages are adopted fromthe project template, you can change both the page and device structure inthe newly created project.

2. PLOT FRAMES

Defines the logical structure of the schematic, that is, the assignment of a plot frame

to a page determines the header, page size, and the division into rows and columns.There are additional special texts available, the row and column texts.

Defining Form Properties

Form type:

Select the desired form type from the drop-down list (such as "Terminal connectiondiagram", "Table of contents", "Order list", etc.). This property defines the type ofform. Each form type is assigned a particular ID. This is used internally to generatethe list of properties available (placeholder texts) that can be used during the editingof the form. Thus each form has a specific list of available fields. The form type ID isalso used to generate the list of forms which are available in the "Reports" dialog forthe generation of a particular document. For instance, if you want to generate adevice tag list, only the forms present which are designated as device tag list formsare offered for selection.

Property name / Value list:

The available properties are displayed depending on the selected category. Some ofthem, for example "Company code" and "Modification date" have already beenassigned values that can't be changed. Others, for example "Description" and"Version", can be assigned values or their existing values can be changed.

The following properties are particularly important:

Name (form, plot frame): "Data" category, file name, write-protectedDescription (form, plot frame): "Data" category, string (multi-lingual)

Plot frame to edit form: "Settings" category, stringForm handling: "Settings" category, drop-down list; specifies the form as astatic or dynamic form.Regenerate main sub-header: "Settings" category, special dialogNumber of columns / rows: "Settings" category, integer; maximum number ofcolumns / rows generated on a pageColumn width / row height: "Settings" category, decimal (in "mm"); specifiesthe width of columns / height of rows in the form.

Form structure: "Settings" category, drop-down list; order in which rows andcolumns are filled in. The process always starts in the upper left. "By row"means that first all cells of a row are filled in before switching to the next row.In this case, bridges are displayed vertically. "By column" means that first allcells of a column are filled in before switching to the next column. In this case,

bridges are displayed horizontally.Dynamic row adjustment: "Settings" category, check box. If indirect propertiesare indexed with 0, then the values for all (meaningful) indices are printedtogether. This is generally done using one-row lists separated by semicolons.In forms, however, you have the option of printing these values asindependent elements (rows / columns).Example: Indirect goal.Name(0) gives M1;M2;X1:2. If dynamic rowadjustment is activated, then these four target names are printed one underthe other.Jumpers: Height of first level: "Settings" category, decimal (in "mm"); height ofa jumper in the first level in the terminal diagram. The radius of this circle is

specified with this property (in software coordinates).Jumpers: Height of external wire jumper: "Settings" category, decimal (in"mm"); height of an internal / external jumper in the first level in the terminaldiagram. Assignment: Function definition to graphic: "Settings" category, special dialog;assignment of a terminal type number to a symbol variant. Used whengenerating a page in order to create a fixed symbol graphic.

Adding Location Boxes

Everything inside a location box is allocated to a different DIN group from that whichis defined in the page properties. The components then have the same relationshipto the location box as they normally have to the page. This assumption of the DTalso occurs if only identifier blocks like installation and location are entered in acomponent in the location box.

Managing Users

The rights management allows you to create users and assign them to particularuser groups. You can also subsequently edit or delete users.

Create users

Utilities > Rights management

To the left of the Rights management dialog, select the User folder, and click[New].

In the User dialog, enter a name and short description of the new user.

You can assign a password in the Password field. To avoid typing errors onentry, you must enter the password a second time into the Confirm passwordfield.

Click [OK].

Assign the user to one or more groups as described in the section "EditingUsers".

in the Rights management dialog, click the plus sign next to the Group folder

to open the folder and select a user group.

Select the check box in front of the user groups in which the current user is tobe a member. Click the plus sign to open the subordinate rights. Click [OK].

Logging on or Changing Users

Log on users

The Logon dialog is automatically displayed when EPLAN starts.

Enter the user name and password and click [OK].

Switch users

Select the menu item Project > Switch user.

Enter the user name and password into the Logon dialog and click [OK].

9. Revision Management

Completing Projects and Pages

In EPLAN, projects can be completed at any time. The project is then write-protectedand can no longer be changed. A completed project is stored in the project directory

with the extension *.elr.

Select the menu item Utilities > Revision control > Complete project.

Click [Yes] in the message window in order to use the comments on therevision as the description for the page modification. (If you click [No], theprocess will be canceled, and you can complete the pages manually).

Complete pages

Select the project or the modified pages in the page overview, and select themenu item Utilities > Revision control > Complete pages.

Generating Revisions

Utilities > Revision control > Generate revision

In the Generate revision dialog, enter a name for the revision in the Revisionname field. In the Commentfield you can enter a short description of the revision,but the field may also be left blank. Click [OK].

Generating Comparison Projects

Utilities > Revision control > Generate comparison project

In the Generate comparison project dialog, enter a name for the comparisonproject in the Project name field.

In the Comment field you can enter a short description of the comparisonproject, but the field may also be left blank.

Select the check box Generate temporary comparison project if you wouldlike to generate a non-write-protected project that you can delete again later.

Click [OK].

Comparing Projects

Differences between two projects are registered by comparing particular properties

with one another. In the Compare projects dialog, you can determine whichprojects will be compared. The properties to be compared are determined in theComparisonsettings dialog. If the value of the properties is identical for twoprojects, then no difference is registered between them.

Select the desired project in the page navigator and select the menu itemUtilities > Revision control > Compare projects.

In the Compare projects dialog, select the check box Show only associatedcomparison projects.

In the list, select Compare with to select the comparison project you wouldlike to compare with the currently opened project.

Removing Revision Markers

You can remove revision markers created via change tracking or a project

comparison from the project separately.

Completed projects and comparison project are always write-protected. Only

Setting Up Translation Database

As standard, EPLAN dictionaries are stored in the ..\Translation directory.Select Utilities > Translation > Edit dictionary > Management tab.

15. Managing Master Data

Managing Master DataMaster data files to be edited or stored in the project can be opened in the standarddialog, which is in a default directory. You can specify settings for this via Options >Settings > User > Management > Directories.

Actual storage and management depends on the type of master data in question, inwhich the program distinguishes between the management of:

Parts dataFormsPlot framesMacrosSymbol libraries.

If the specified form / plot frame is not in the master data pool, it can be found usingthe Complete project function and can even be automatically stored. If missingmaster data can't be found in the master data pool, a message is displayed.

Defining Master Data Directories

Options > Settings > User > Management > DirectoriesThe paths to the required databases and files are defined in the defaults for

directories when selecting or editing master data. This information is used by certainprogram elements and functions when particular data is required. The settings areuser dependent in order for you to manage and organize your own pool of masterdata.

1. In the Projects field of the Settings: Directories dialog, click [...].

In the Browse for Folder dialog select the desired drive and directory. Click [OK].

Proceed this way for all further master data types with default directories thatyou would like to change. (The default after installing EPLAN is:\\\. Click [OK].

Master Data: Managing Parts Data

In addition to the general parts database there is a project-related Parts projectdatabase, in which the parts data used in the project are managed separately. Data

for a part is taken from the internal parts database and transferred to the project foreach part, even if only the part number is stored on the component in the graphicalediting at the time the part is selected.

Project data can be synchronized later in both directions with the system masterdata. Furthermore, certain stored parts properties can be removed from the project.

1. Open the project whose master data is to be synchronized.

2. Select Utilities > Parts > Current project --> parts database.

Master Data: Managing Macros

Macros are broken up in the project as soon as they are inserted. Data is thenundistinguishable from manually inserted individual elements. All data in a macro are

referenced when stored (except foreign language texts).

The name of the symbol library from which the macro was generated (drawn) isstored in the macro. This way the macro preview will use the correct symbol libraryfor the display.

In the operating system layer, macros are individual files that can be sent to endcustomers, for example.

Master Data: Managing Symbol LibrariesSymbols are compiled, edited, and managed in symbol libraries. The project settings

(inherited by symbols, e.g. line thickness of the symbol) for the current project areused in managing the symbol libraries.

Symbol selection (Insert > Symbol) only displays those symbols from the storedsymbol libraries and symbol libraries are identified by name (without the path) inprojects.

Store symbol libraries (copy to the project)Symbol libraries are added to the project as soon as they are entered into the projectsettings, or they are opened or generated in the project.

Options > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Management > SymbolLibraries

1. In the Settings: Symbol libraries dialog, click [...] in a column below Symbollibraries.

2. In the Select symbol library dialog select the new symbol library.

3. Click on [Open].

4. If you have clicked [...] in the column of an already assigned symbol library,EPLAN checks whether the original symbol library and the newly selected oneare both compatible. If this is not the case, the process will be interrupted witha prompt. If the two symbol libraries are compatible, you have to confirm theexchange in the Exchange symbol libraries dialog. Click [Yes].

5. If you have clicked [...] in an empty column, the storage process isautomatically started.

6. Select the Synchronize check box if the symbol library should be managed on

a project basis.

7. If necessary, change the preceding sign (the default is the first letter of thesymbol library) so that you can differentiate between the symbol libraries in thelist view in the Symbol selection if you select Popup menu > Name withpreceding sign.

8. Proceed this way for all of the further symbol libraries that you would like tostore in the project.

9. Click [OK].

File off symbol libraries (delete from the project)Before deleting a symbol library from the settings, and therefore from the project, thelibrary is checked for symbols that are still used in the project. It is possible to deleteif the symbol library is not being used.

Master data is stored on a project-related basis and can be synchronized with themaster data pool when opening, saving, or restoring the project. There are project

1. In the Settings: Output to page dialog, open the Form drop-down list for thereporting type whose settings you would like to edit.

Synchronizing Master Data

The master data (e.g. a symbol library) is not referenced, but rather stored in theproject, i.e. copied into the project. The storage of the master data being used thus

occurs within the Project. Depending on the project settings specified under Options> Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Management > General , Options >Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Management > Symbol libraries, andOptions > Settings > Projects > "Project name" > Reports > Display / outputyou can, if necessary, manually start the synchronization of project master data withthe system-specific data.
