Εὐλογηµένος ὁ ἐρχόµενος ἐν ὀνόµατιΚυρίου.

God is the Lord, and He revealed Himselfto us. Blessed is he who comes in the name ofthe Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξοµολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνοµα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and callupon His holy name.

ἤ· Ἐξοµολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ, ὅτι ἀγαθός,ὅτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ.

or: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; forHis mercy endures forever.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, butin the name of the Lord I defended myself againstthem.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord,and it is wonderful in our eyes.

When You descended unto death, O Lordwho yourself are immortal Life, then did Youmortify Hades by the lightning flash of YourDivinity. Also when You raised the dead fromthe netherworld, all the Powers of the heavenswere crying out: O Giver of life, Christ ourGod, glory to You. [SD]

When he took down Your immaculateBody from the Cross, the honorable Josephwrapped it in a clean linen shroud with spicesand laid it for burial in a new tomb. But on thethird day You arose, O Lord, and granted theworld Your great mercy. [SD]

µνῆµα ἐπιστάς, ὁ Ἄγγελος ἐβόα· Τὰ µύρατοῖς θνητοῖς ὑπάρχει ἁρµόδια, Χριστὸςδὲ διαφθορᾶς ἐδείχθη ἀλλότριος, ἀλλὰκραυγάσατε· Ἀνέστη ὁ Κύριος, παρέχων τῷκόσµῳ τὸ µέγα ἔλεος.

The Angel standing at the sepulchercried out and said to the ointment-bearingwomen: The ointments are appropriate formortal men, but Christ has been shown tobe a stranger to decay. So go and cry aloud,The Lord has risen and granted the world Hisgreat mercy. [SD]

ΙΕΡΕΥΣ PRIESTἜτι καὶ ἔτι ἐν εἰρήνῃ τοῦ Κυρίου

the Lord.

Help us, save us, have mercy on us, andprotect us, O God, by Your grace.

Commemorating our most holy, pure,blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokosand ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, letus commend ourselves and one another andour whole life to Christ our God.

Not barring the stone of the tomb frombeing sealed shut, You rose and You grantedunto all the rock of faith. Glory to You, OLord. [SD]

Not quitting the immaculate bosom inthe highest, for all You accepted burial andresurrection. Glory to You, O Lord. [SD]

All surpassing every thought, allsurpassing glorious, O Theotokos, are yourmysteries. For while bearing the seal of purityand preserved in virginity, you were deemeda Mother in truth, for to the true God yougave birth. To Him pray fervently, entreatingHim to save our souls. [SD]

Ἦχος βʹ. Mode 2. Αἱ Μυροφόροι ὄρθριαι γενόµεναι,

καὶ τὸ µνῆµα κενὸν θεασσάµεναι, τοῖςἈποστόλοις ἔλεγον· Τὴν φθορὰν καθεῖλενὁ κραταιός, καὶ τοὺς ἐν Ἅδῃ ἥρπασε τῶνδεσµῶν· κηρύξατε παῤῥησίᾳ· ὅτι ἀνέστηΧριστὸς ὁ Θεός, δωρούµενος ἡµῖν τὸ µέγαἔλεος.

The women came with ointments veryearly in the morning, and they saw that thetomb was empty. Then they went and told theApostles, "The Mighty One has overpoweredcorruption, and He has rescued those whowere bound in Hades. Proclaim it openly, thatChrist God has risen, granting us His greatmercy." [SD]


Τὰ µύρα τῆς ταφῆς σου, αἱ γυναῖκεςκοµίσασαι, λαθραίως πρὸς τὸ µνῆµαπαρεγένοντο ὄρθριαι, τῶν Ἰουδαίωνδειλῶσαι τὴν αὐθάδειαν· καὶ στρατιωτῶνπροορῶσαι τὴν ἀσφάλειαν· ἀλλὰ φύσιςἀσθενὴς τὴν ἀνδρείαν ἐνίκησεν· ὅτι γνώµησυµπαθὴς τῷ Θεῷ εὐηρέστησε· προσφόρωςοὖν ἐκραύγαζον· Ἀνάστα Κύριε, βοήθησονἡµῖν, καὶ λύτρωσαι ἡµᾶς, ἕνεκεν τοῦὀνόµατός σου.

The women purchased ointments forYour burial, and they came to Your tombvery early in the morning. They feared theJudeans' overt hostility, and envisioned thesoldiers' guard of security. And yet their weaknature prevailed over manliness, for theirsympathetic sentiments were pleasing to God.So opportunely they shouted, "Arise, O Lord,and help us; and deliver us for Your name'ssake." [SD]

Παρθένε, ὑµνοῦµέν σε· διὰ γάρ τοῦΣταυροῦ τοῦ Υἱοῦ σου, κατεβλήθη ὁ ᾅδης,καὶ ὁ θάνατος τέθνηκε, νεκρωθέντεςἀνέστηµεν, καὶ ζωῆς ἠξιώθηµεν, τὸνΠαράδεισον ἐλάβοµεν, τὴν ἀρχαίανἀπόλαυσιν· διὸ εὐχαριστοῦντεςδοξολογοῦµεν, ὡς κραταιὸν Χριστὸν τὸνΘεὸν ἡµῶν, καὶ µόνον πολυέλεον.

You are supremely glorified, O VirginTheotokos; we sing your praise. For by meansof your Son's crucifixion has Hades beenoverthrown and death itself has died. Wehave risen, who once were dead, and havebeen made worthy of life. We received theoriginal enjoyment of Paradise. And thereforewith thanksgiving we send up glory to Christour God because He is powerful and alonevery merciful. [SD]

Blessed are You, O Lord, teach me Yourstatutes.

Τῶν Ἀγγέλων ὁ δῆµος, κατεπλάγη ὁρῶνσε, ἐν νεκροῖς λογισθέντα, τοῦ θανάτουδὲ Σωτήρ, τὴν ἰσχὺν καθελόντα, καὶ σὺνἑαυτῷ τὸν Ἀδὰµ ἐγείραντα, καὶ ἐξ ᾍδουπάντας ἐλευθερώσαντα.

When the hosts of the Angels saw howYou were accounted among the dead, theyall marveled. You, O Savior, are the One whodestroyed the might of death; and when Youarose You raised Adam with yourself andfrom Hades liberated everyone. [SD]



Τί τὰ µύρα, συµπαθῶς τοῖς δάκρυσιν,ὦ Μαθήτριαι κιρνᾶτε; ὁ ἀστράπτων ἐντῷ τάφῳ Ἄγγελος, προσεφθέγγετο ταῖςΜυροφόροις· Ἴδετε ὑµεῖς τὸν τάφονκαὶ ᾔσθητε· ὁ Σωτὴρ γὰρ ἐξανέστη τοῦµνήµατος.

"Why do you mingle the ointments withyour tears full of pity, O women disciples?"Thus the Angel who was shining in the tombcried to the myrrh-bearing women. "See foryourselves the empty tomb and understand,that the Savior has risen from the sepulcher."[SD]



Λίαν πρωΐ, Μυροφόροι ἔδραµον,πρὸς τὸ µνῆµά σου θρηνολογοῦσαι· ἀλλ'ἐπέστη, πρὸς αὐτὰς ὁ Ἄγγελος, καὶ εἶπε·

Very early in the morning, the myrrh-bearing women were hastening to Your tomblamenting. But the Angel appeared to themand uttered, "The time for lamentation has

θρήνου ὁ καιρὸς πέπαυται, µὴ κλαίετε, τὴνἈνάστασιν δέ, Ἀποστόλοις εἴπατε.

ended; weep no more. Go announce theResurrection to the Apostles." [SD]



Μυροφόροι γυναῖκες, µετὰ µύρωνἐλθοῦσαι, πρὸς τὸ µνῆµά σου, Σῶτερἐνηχοῦντο. Ἀγγέλου τρανῶς, πρὸς αὐτὰςφθεγγοµένου· Τί µετὰ νεκρῶν, τὸν ζώνταλογίζεσθε; ὡς Θεὸς γάρ, ἐξανέστη τοῦµνήµατος.

When the myrrh-bearing women hadcome with their spices to Your sepulcher,O Savior, they heard the voice of an Angelclearly speaking to them, "Why do youaccount among the dead the One who lives?For as God, He has risen from the sepulcher."[SD]

Δόξα. Glory.Προσκυνοῦµεν Πατέρα, καὶ τὸν τούτου

Υἱόν τε, καὶ τὸ Ἅγιον Πνεῦµα, τὴν ἉγίανΤριάδα, ἐν µιᾷ τῇ οὐσίᾳ, σὺν τοῖς Σεραφείµ,κράζοντες τό· Ἅγιος, Ἅγιος, Ἅγιος εἶ, Κύριε.

We bow down in worship to the Fatherand His Son and the Holy Spirit, the HolyTrinity, one in essence; and we cry aloud withthe Seraphim: Holy, Holy, Holy are You, OLord. [SD]

Καὶ νῦν. Both now.Ζωοδότην τεκοῦσα, ἐλυτρώσω Παρθένε,

τὸν Ἀδὰµ ἁµαρτίας, χαρµονὴν δὲ τῇ Εὔᾳ,ἀντὶ λύπης παρέσχες, ῥεύσαντα ζωῆς, ἴθυνεπρὸς ταύτην δέ, ὁ ἐκ σοῦ σαρκωθείς Θεὸςκαὶ ἄνθρωπος.

Giving birth to the Giver of life, O Virgin,you delivered Adam from sin, and to Eve youhave rendered joy in place of sorrow. He whofrom you became incarnate, God and man,has directed to life him who fell from it. [SD]

µνήµατι πρὸς τὸ µυρίσαι τὸ σῶµά σου αἱγυναῖκες Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, εἶδον Ἀγγέλους ἐντῷ τάφῳ καὶ ἐξέστησαν· φωνῆς γὰρ ἤκουονἐξ αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἀνέστη ὁ Κύριος, δωρούµενοςτῷ κόσµῳ τὸ µέγα ἔλεος.

After the Passion, O Christ God, thewomen went to the tomb to anoint Yourbody, and they saw Angels in the sepulcher,and they were amazed. For they heard themsaying that the Lord has risen and granted theworld the great mercy. [SD]

Savior, I direct the eyes of my heart untoYou in heaven. Save me, I pray, shining on meYour resplendence. [SD]

Ἐλέησον ἡµᾶς τοὺς πταίοντάς σοιπολλὰ καθ' ἑκάστην ὥραν, ὦ Χριστέ µου,καὶ δὸς πρὸ τέλους τρόπους, τοῦ µετανοεῖνσοι.

Have mercy, O my Christ, on us whohourly commit sin against You manifoldly;and give us means before the end to turn toYou in repentance. [SD]

To the Holy Spirit is it proper to rule andto hallow and to move creation; for He is God,coessential with the Father and the Logos. [SD]

If the Lord were not among us, whowould be sufficient to preserve himselfuninjured from the enemy and murderer ofmankind? [SD]

Τοῖς ὁδοῦσιν αὐτῶν, µὴ παραδῷς Σῶτερτὸν σὸν δοῦλον, λέοντος τρόπον κατ' ἐµοῦκινοῦνται· καὶ γὰρ οἱ ἐχθροί µου.

Hand me not to the teeth of my enemies,O my Savior; for in the manner of a lion theycome against me Your servant. [SD]

In the Holy Spirit is life-source and honor:being as He is God, in the Father throughthe Son He strengthens and sustains everycreature. [SD]

ὄρει τῷ ἁγίῳ, οἳ οὐδαµῶς σαλεύονται,προσβολαῖς τοῦ Βελίαρ.

They whose confidence is in the Lord arelike the holy mountain: they are in no wayshaken by the assaults of Belial. [SD]

Ἐν ἀνοµίαις χεῖρας αὐτῶν µὴἐκτεινάτωσαν οἱ θείως ζῶντες· οὐ γὰρ ἐᾷΧριστός, τῇ ῥάβδῳ τὸν κλῆρον αὐτοῦ.

Let those who live for God not stretchforth their hands in unlawful acts; for Christwill not suffer His lot to be oppressed by therod of sinners. [SD]

Δόξα· καὶ νῦν. Glory. Both now.Ἁγίῳ Πνεύµατι, προσπηγάζει πᾶσα

σοφία, ἔνθεν χάρις Ἀποστόλοις, καὶ τοῖςἄθλοις καταστέφονται Μάρτυρες, καὶΠροφῆται ὁρῶσι.

From the Holy Spirit does in additionall wisdom also issue; whence is grace to theApostles, and the Martyrs for their contestsreceive the crowns, and the Prophets areseers. [SD]

Προκείµενον. Prokeimenon.Ἐξεγέρθητι, Κύριε ὁ Θεός µου, ἐν

προστάγµατι, ᾧ ἐνετείλω, καὶ συναγωγὴλαῶν κυκλώσει σε. (δίς)

A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, abroken and humbled heart God will notdespise.

Ἀγάθυνον, Κύριε, ἐν τῇ εὐδοκίᾳ σουτὴν Σιών, καὶ οἰκοδοµηθήτω τὰ τείχηἸερουσαλήµ.

Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasureto Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem bebuilt.

Τότε εὐδοκήσεις θυσίαν δικαιοσύνης,ἀναφορὰν καὶ ὁλοκαυτώµατα.

Then You will be pleased with a sacrificeof righteousness, with offerings and wholeburnt offerings.

Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in theassembly of His holy ones.

Let them praise His name with dance; withtambourine and harp let them sing to Him.

Ὅτι εὐδοκεῖ Κύριος ἐν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὑψώσειπραεῖς ἐν σωτηρίᾳ.

For the Lord is pleased with His people, and Heshall exalt the gentle with salvation.

The holy ones shall boast in glory, and they shallgreatly rejoice on their beds.

To deal retribution to the nations, reprovingamong the peoples.

To shackle their kings with chains and their nobleswith fetters of iron.

To fulfill among them the written judgment: thisglory have all His holy ones.

The myrrh-bearing women at dawn veryearly, standing outside the tomb of the Giver-of-Life, found an Angel who was seated uponthe stone. And the Angel addressed them, andthis is what he said, "Why do you seek amongthe dead the One who is alive? Why do yougrieve as though corruptible the Incorrupt?
