Exalted Ruler’s Message

June is here and we just returned from the State Convention. They completely changed the venue with one price admission to the meetings and reports on Saturday along with the vendors’ food and drinks. We also got to see our very own Rosemary Dean initiated along with three others from St Augustine by the All-State ritual team.

Each lodge was announced in the roll call of of-ficers. Many ER’s dressed in costumes to exem-plify their lodge. I was a conquistador.

We listened to the state leaders about member-ship, liability and tax concerns. In the evening we met with other members and officers from around the state to exchange ideas and renew friend-ships.

In June we are planning to resume Friday night dinners. In the beginning, it will be sign up in the bar or call the bartenders. Our house Chairman Cary says he is checking the voicemail every day so leave us a message and we will get you on the list.

The parking committee had a great report for the first 45 days. This is our biggie guys We need volunteers; contact Kathryn Helhoski to volunteer..

Our Secretary, Mike Rathmann, continues to wow us. He recently obtained two ENF grants: the Gratitude Grant which will support the “K-9 for Warriors” program and the Beacon Grant which is used for the Veterans Stand down.

My Elk of the Month is Chris Lynch. Chris is a new member who is having a great time. You can see him in lodge or helping with the parking volunteers. It is great to see new members getting involved.

John Gebert, Exalted Ruler

Dance Lessons

Dance lessons resume on Monday, June 19 at 7:00 PM in the rear hall. There will be some introductory lessons before begin-ning another lesson sequence. This gives members a chance to pick and choose the dance(s) that appeal to them. Also, if a les-son is missed, they will not feel left behind. No partner is re-quired. Guests are also welcome, subject to the rules of the Lodge. The schedule is as follows:

June 19—Basic Cha Cha

June 26—Basic Social Waltz

July 3— Basic Rumba

July 10— Basic East Coast Swing

July 17— Basic Single Time Swing

July 31— (no lesson this week)

Don’t Ring the Doorbell—Use Your Card

Please use your membership door lock card to enter the Lodge.

The bartenders are busy and should not have to push the button

unnecessarily. The Exalted Ruler challenges members to com-ply by asking that members with cards who ring the doorbell do-

nate $5.00 to the Harry Anna Trust Fund Container (by the sign-

in sheet).

Eland News

Happy June! Has May already passed??? We are fast approaching the

Elands annual Luau Fund Raiser Party. Note……Due to the Elks state

conference occurring on our original chosen date, the Elands have changed the

Luau date from July 15th

to July 22nd

. We are so excited about this event and we

want EVERYONE to a'end. There will be a dinner, live entertainment, dancing,

and games of chance with prizes, wonderful auc+on items, a 50/50 drawing and a

raffle drawing for a fabulous basket of goodies. A cash bar also will be in full

swing. Tickets @ an affordable $25 each, will soon be on sale, and can be pur-

chased from an Eland member or from one of our fabulous bartenders.

***If you are able to donate or procure a donaon that we can include in our

Fund Raiser aucon, please contact Cary (House Chair) Kayla (bartender) or Me

(Sharyn Grace 561-312-6317). Your support is greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to Ben & Gloria Benischeck for donang boxes of original Hawaiian

items from their recent trip to Hawaii. This will make our Luau more authenc &

fun. Thanks for being so though8ul & doing something special for the Elands.

As menoned in my last newsle:er, last year the Elands donated a total of more

than $6400 to the Elks Harry-Anna fund (youth camp, therapy services), Lodge

scholarship fund, and 7 local community charies. This is why the Elands are hav-

ing our Luau…..to raise money to DONATE to OUR Elks Lodge and our community

charies. Thank you for supporng us.

If you are the spouse of an Elk, we are extending a special invitaon to join our

Eland organizaon. We would love to meet and answer any quesons that you

may have.

Please put the following dates in your calendar:

July 22, 2017 Saturday evening will be our Annual Luau, our major fund raiser.

September 16, 2017 Saturday evening will a “sock hop”, for major fun & dancing.

January 20, 2018 Saturday morning will be our garage and white elephant sale,

also a major fund raiser.

How is the Elks National Foundation

Helping Florida?

During the 2016-2017 Lodge year, the Elks of Florida donated

$359,273.12 to the Elles National Foundation. This year, the

Foundation will give back the following:

State Charities Grant: $297,910.00

Special Projects Grant: $254,080.00

Bonus Grant: $62,360.00

These grants support your state's major charitable project, as well as other

philanthropic projects. Portions of these grants also support your state's

Drug Awareness Program, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot & educational pro-

grams.

Most Valuable Student: $144,000.00

Legacy Award: $44,000.00

We award a total of 36 "Most Valuable Student" scholar-

ships to high school seniors from each state. In addition, we award up to 11

Legacy scholarships to children, grandchildren and stepchildren of Elks.

' National Veterans Service Commission: $26,520.00

These funds help them provide aid and comfort to hospitalized

veterans.

Grand Total: $828,870.00

That's a ratio of 2.307 for every dollar the Foundation received from your

state last year. And that doesn't even include the money Lodges in your

state will get back through our Community Investments Program. For the

2016-2017 fiscal year, we awarded a total of $396,100.00 to 73 Florida

Lodges.
