Enjoy the music of Kats-Chernin from her chart- topping albums, Butterflying: the music of Elena Kats-Chernin, and the ARIA-nominated Unsent Love Letters: Meditations on Erik Satie. Performed throughout Australia from Perth International Arts Festival to Sydney Festival (in 2020), Townsville’s Australian Festival of Classical Music to Adelaide’s UKARIA Cultural Centre, this concert offers the sheer delight and energy of Kats-Chernin’s music with the warm and spontaneous interaction between these two leading women of Australian classical music. As we go to print, Elena’s opera Whiteley, performed in Opera Australia’s 2019 season has just been shortlisted for best World Premiere at the 2020 International Opera Awards. Concert 3Songlines Of Your Life WithThe Third Age Rock OrchestraSunday 19 July 2020 at 2:30pm

The exciting Third Age Rock Orchestra, instrumentalists and vocalists bringing the songs and melodies you loved in the 50s 60s and 70s!Enjoy an afternoon recalling classic popular songs from the 1950s to the present day by this enthusiastic orchestra, which is gaining a growing audience north of the harbour. All members are retirees and amateur players at various stages of progress and levels on their instruments. The 3rd Age Rock Orchestra (3ARO) is two years old, and its common thread is the joy, fun and stimulation of playing popular music together. Leader Harvey Broadbent AM, formed the group in early 2018 as a project of the Northern Beaches University of the Third Age (U3A) and has grown the orchestra to more than 35 instrumentalists and singers. Included in the program will be rock and rock ballads made popular by leading performers over the years. So let the 3ARO “rock you” for an up tempo afternoon of happy musical memories. Sit back and enjoy the nostalgia of best-loved music from the Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Simon and Garfunkel and many more!

Two of Australia’s finest new stars of opera combine to bring you the world’s best-loved tenor and soprano arias and songs from musical theatre. Music includes songs from Gilbert and Sullivan, Oklahoma, The Merry Widow, My Fair Lady and favourite opera arias. Georgia Wilkinson, last year’s coloratura soprano Sun Aria winner, graduated at the tender age of 17 from the Victorian College of the Arts, with subsequent operatic training in Italy, Germany and the US. She has appeared on stage with such luminaries as Yvonne Kenny, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Marina Prior and James Morrison. Daniel Todd’s fine lyric tenor voice has been applauded in more than 30 roles with the Hamburg State Opera, where he has appeared with outstanding soloists and conductors. Daniel is much sought after in Europe, China and Australia for his versatile repertoire. Both Georgia and Daniel were graduates of Victorian Opera’s Developing Artist Program. Their performance together having established successful international careers is a great delight.They will be joined by accompanist Francis Greep renowned as an international vocal coach, recitalist, chorus master, continuo player and conductor.

Andrew Dickeson - drums, leaderBrad Child - saxophoneCarl Dewhurst - guitarAshley Turner - bassKnown for his crisp, hard-swinging style, Andrew Dickeson has been one of the foremost drummers on the Australian Jazz scene for over 25 years. He played and studied in Australia before spending time in New York playing and studying with jazz legends Art Taylor, Vernel Fournier and more recently Michael Carvin.He has worked with very many American Jazz stars such as Johnny Griffin, Junior Cook, Lee Konitz, Branford Marsalis, Eric Alexander, Charles McPherson, Eddie Henderson, Warren Vache and Kirk Lightsey, as well as practically every jazz figure in the Australian Jazz scene.For this special concert, the Andrew Dickeson Quartet - featuring Brad Child - saxophone, Carl Dewhurst - guitar, and Ashley Turner - double bass, will present an afternoon of classic, swinging jazz.Playing selections from Andrews’s three recent recordings which draw upon the Great American Songbook - Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Rogers and Hammerstein, Hart and more - as well as some classic tunes by the legendary jazz composers, this will be an afternoon of sophisticated, enjoyable music.
