0 Course Description: 0 This course will be divided into two major areas i.e. Curriculum

and Instruction. Section one will provide an overview of the principles, procedures and practices in curriculum and syllabus design. The second section will focus on instruction and instructional materials.

0 Course Outcomes:

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Describe the principles and procedures in curriculum and syllabus design,

2. Design curriculum and syllabus for a specific groups of learners,

3. Describe the school curriculum and syllabus,

4. Prepare lesson plan for classroom instruction,

5. Design, utilize and evaluate instructional materials for use in teaching.

Grading Policies

The grading scale as explained in the course catalogue will be used:

80-100% = A 65-69% = B 50-54% = C

75-79% = A- 60-64% = B-

70-74% = B+ 55-59% = C+

Test Students will demonstrate their knowledge in two tests.

0 Curriculum is commonly defined as “a plan of study”

0 For example: KSSR or Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah is a plan of study for Malaysian Primary school for a period of 6 years. KBSM or Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Menengah is a plan of study for Malaysian Secondary school for a period of 5 years

0 B. Sc. Ed. (Honours) Chemistry/Physics/ Biology 0 The curriculum was plan for a period of 4 years of study in

order to obtain the first degree.

Instruction

0 Refers to the process of giving instruction in a classroom through the process of teaching and learning.

0 Instruction thus, is the process of implementing the curriculum through the process of teaching and learning by using various approaches, methods and technique.

0 According to Saylor (1981), instruction is the actual engagements of learners with planned learning.

0 As such, curriculum is often associated with instruction.
