Indonesia is one of the home for the richest life below water, and each of its islands have most of coral s in the world. In the Thousand Islands, northwest of Jakarta, 95% percent of the coral reef died due to the 1997-98 El Niño that triggered widespread bleaching. Now, the Thousand Islands had significant recovery, with live coral cover of 30%. Since Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, the high population also caused corrupted environment. One of them is waste that are dumped in the ocean. This brings us to the need of waste management. Each day, Jakarta produces 6,000 ton waste. Most of these wastes are thrown to sea, results in destruction of corals. An action is needed to prevent total destruction of environment and the best way is through the youth. AIESEC is the world’s largest youth run organization that have aims to enrich youth’s mindset to take care the environment by running ‚Econesia‛ with sub issue children and youth. The goals is build the awareness of young people toward environment in Indonesia.

‚Meeting a different country, cultures, people, habits, customs, everything. Basically, leaving 6 weeks out of my comfort zone and everything I knew was crucial for my life changing.‛

TESTIMONIAL

Pedro Rocha Dias, Portugal

in BINUS University

‚My stay in Indonesia would definitely make part of my life memories when I look back at my life in old age. Everything was perfect. This wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for the amazing AIESEC team in BINUS University. I went to Indonesia alone but I left with an experienced lifetime, friends, memories that I would never trade, heck I even left with a family. Would I go back given the chance? Hell yeah!!‛
