Materialsdouble knitting woolorFunky Fur or similar fuzzy double knitting woolUK 3¾mm / US 5 knitting needlesbeads, black embroidery thread or black tapestry woolscraps of feltsewing threadNB. if covers are for a small child do not use beads.

Casting onCable casting on is the preferred method.After slip knot and first stitch each new stitch is made by inserting right needle between the last two stitches on left needle.

Pull Wool Through (pwt)Break off yarn leaving a long tail, using a needle, thread wool through all the stitches on the needle starting at the beginning of the row and then gather tightly. Make a few stitches at the beginning of the row to complete the circle. (see photo 1)

Chick Cover

BODYWork in reverse stocking st.Cast on 24 sts with lemon yarn.Pull the first st tightly at the beg of every row.ROW 1 : p.ROW 2 : inc first and last st of k row.Repeat ROWS 1 & 2, until 36 sts ending on a ROW 2.

NEXT ROW : p.NEXT ROW : k.NEXT ROW : p.Cast off.

HEADWork in reverse stocking st.Cast on 16 sts with lemon yarn.Continue with 6 rows reverse stocking st. Starting with a p row and ending with a k row. Pwt.

To assemble Chick Purl side is the right side. Use a matching sewing thread to join seams for a neater finish.

1. Darn loose yarns on reverse side.2. Cut out beak in orange felt (see template on page 4). Attach beads or embroider eyes, also attach beak. Place a small piece of lemon felt behind the place where eyes and beak are to be sewn. Sew through knitted head and then through the backing felt. Attach beak by stitching along the centre fold.3. Join the seam on the back of the head leaving the bottom end open.4. Fold body piece in half, wrong sides together and with sewing thread sew a seam close to the edge through the two pieces. Leave a gap at the bottom end to insert the crème egg, also a tiny gap of 1cm at the head end.5. Gather the chicks head loosely at the base. Attach head to body.6. Decorate with feathers , wool loops, ribbons etc.

Mother Hen CoverBODYWork in stocking st.Cast on 24 sts with white yarn.Pull the first st tightly at the beg of every row.ROW 1 : k.ROW 2 : p.ROW 3 : inc first and last st of k row.Repeat ROWS 2 & 3, until 40 sts ending on a ROW 3.

NEXT ROW : p.Cast off.

HEADWork in stocking st.Cast on 16 sts with white yarn.Pull the first st tightly at the beg of every row.Continue with 12 rows stocking st. Starting with a k row and ending with a p row.Cast off.

To assemble Mother Hen Knit side is the right side.

Use a matching sewing thread to join seams for a neater finish.

Fold head piece in half, wrong sides together. Slip felt pieces between the two edges of knitting – like a sandwich (see photo 2). Stitch close to the edge round the head leaving a gap at the bottom end. Stitch through the two knitted layers and the felt pieces.3. Attach beads or embroider eyes. Place small pieces of white felt behind the

two places where eyes are to be sewn. Embroider through knitted head and then through the backing felt.4. Fold body piece in half, wrong sides together and with sewing thread sew a seam close to the edge through the two pieces. Leave a gap at the bottom end to insert the creme egg, also a gap of 3cms at the head end.
