Diana told her fans softly, very pretty, “I Love You” and We’re going back to yesterday Motown Records. She gave her fans more and more flirting, playful love. Diana waved a lot of Love to her audience. Many, entertainers don’t know how to give love during their 1 hour and a half set. Diana needs to teach entertainers about giving LOVE to their audience except, Beyonce.

Let’s Chat About Where Did Our Love Go!

Name Of Love’, ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’. The Boss attire in a Blue, Black, gray long gown. She sang ‘Up Side Down’ in a Green, wild long gown with a green cape. She said, ‘’Can’t you hear the music. I don’t here you screaming”: Her audience starts dancing, clapping and singing.

The History maker Diana sang her heart from Venus to Fantasy Casino Fans ‘Easy On Down The Road’ put your left foot out. This song prefers to Diana’s ex-guitar player Blues vocalist Roy Gaines title song called ‘You’re Right, and I’m Left.’ Diana’s background singer completed ‘Easy On The Road’ song for her.

Let’s Chat about Billie Holiday, Roy Gaines, Diana Ross:

Diana asked her audience, ‘’Are their any Blues and Jazz Lovers Out Their?’ She had no idea her ex-guitarist Roy Gaines’ from her 1970s Touring Day’s daughter Carolyn W.

Gaines was in her audience critiquing her show for Desert Star Newspaper. She sang Billie Holidays ‘Don’t Explain.’ Wow! Roy Gaines read Billie Holiday’s and Diana Ross’ lead sheets, and played guitar to make their musical dreams come true.

Ross and Holiday introduced ‘Roy Gaines’ as their lead guitar player. Roy Gaines recorded a new 18 piece Orchestra disc called, ‘Roy Gaines’ & his Orchestra ‘Tuxedo Blues at Capitol Records in Hollywood, Cal i forn ia. Roy Gaines recorded Blues and placed Jazz on Top of Blues. I do Believe Fantasy Springs Casino is ready for some Roy Gaines blues & jazz. Diana’s attire was a red, long, feather gown that Mayweather’s girlfriend would be happy to wear because she loves feathers.

Let’s Chat About Why Do Fools Fall In Love:

Near end Diana Ross sung ‘Why Do Fools Fall In Love’, and I used to practice her songs in my dad’s kitchen and living room. This is why I believe I can hold notes because I studied Diana Ross singing ranges. Ross sang ‘Mahogany’ for her fans and ‘Ain’t No Mountain Higher Enough’.

By Desert Star StaffINDIO, CA – It will certainly

be a jolly Christmas at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino as singer-comedian-celebrity impressionist and resident Las Vegas performer Terry Fator lights up the Special Events Center stage on Saturday, December 20th.

Returning with Fator will be his all-star team of anything-but-ordinary puppets. Including Duggie the annoying neighbor, Emma the little girl with the big voice, Monty Carlo the lounge

singer, Maynard Thompkins the world’s greatest Elvis impersonator, presidential candidate Walter, Julius the soul singer, Vikki “The Cougar,” Wrex the crash test dummy, hip hop diva Berry Fabulous and a few others. Each character allows Fator to sing a different genre in an unbelievable manner, with performances ranging from Garth Brooks and Dean Martin to Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga and more.

Fator’s rise to fame from his time with a Texas-based cover

band to his very own theatre at The Mirage Hotel & Casino was 32 years in the making. He first discovered his knack for impressions at the age of six, when he began performing Bill Cosby comedy routines for his family and friends. As a young man, Fator sang lead vocals for Texas the Band, a group whose playlist ranged from Garth Brooks to Guns N’ Roses.

A trip to Las Vegas in 2005 sparked Fator’s desire to become a big-name entertainer and he left with visions of

billboards and bright lights, all donning his name. Unwilling to give up on his dreams, Fator was persuaded to audition for “America’s Got Talent” when he saw a ventriloquist from season one on the “The Late Show with David Letterman.” During his audition, Fator stunned the judges with his puppet Emma Taylor and her impression of Etta James. In the final episode, a stunning Roy Orbison performance of “Crying,” courtesy of Winston The Impersonating Turtle, led to an eruption of praise from the audience, the judges and

America. His life would never be the same.

In one year, Fator went from small-town appearances to “The Today Show,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and, at long last, “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

Tickets for the 8PM Terry Fator’s performance go on sale Friday, September 26th for $89, $69 and $49 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

Private Health Exchanges for Group Health Plans

Spending Cap, Reserve Fund Cap?

By Janice GoughAcross the board, the

health care insurance market is undergoing its most significant

transformation in decades. With the creation of public exchanges, the expansion of Medicaid, and the elimination of pre-existing conditions as a reason to deny coverage, we are witnessing unprecedented innovation across the spectrum.

For employers, this new reality creates a rare opportunity to overhaul health care benefit offerings, while reducing costs and improving the overall health & wellness of their employees. Studies have proven that healthy employees are more productive and take fewer sick days than their less-healthy co-workers.

One of the best ways for employers to participate in this revolution is to switch to a defined-contribution method of paying for their employees’ health benefits. That is, offering a fixed amount of money allocated to each employee for his or her health care coverage.

To make a defined-contribution system work, employers provide workers with access to an online private

exchange, which mimics the new public exchanges by offering a wide range of health care coverage options, including medical, dental, vision, and even weight management and fitness programs such as Retrofit.

By contrast, a traditional defined-benefit program is built around a small number of insurance plans and limited options for employees. Defined-benefit plans often result in higher costs and fewer predictable expenses for the employer.

Many employers are already switching to private exchanges and defined-contribution programs. For 2014 open enrollment, Accenture estimates that more than 3 million employees were covered under private exchanges. By 2018, Accenture projects that 40 million employees will be enrolled in these exchanges under the defined-contribution model. While large employers such as Sears and Petco have already made the jump, most

of the growth is among mid-market employers with around 1,000 employees, according to Accenture.

Products and services are teaming up to make it simple for employers to offer such options. As consumers get accustomed to the new world of health care insurance, more of them will be looking to their employer-sponsored plans for wider choice and non-traditional benefit options such as a wellness and weight-loss program.

I think it’s high time for employers of all sizes to look closely at the defined

contribution/private exchange model to figure out when – and not if – it’s a change they are going to make.

By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCALDear Kelly,

I live in a large retirement park, age 55 and up. There is no limit on the amount of money the board can spend. They are increasing our dues, to the point many people cannot afford to live here any longer. Question, can a portion of the residents sign a form to the board requesting a cap on the amount the HOA can spend without the approval of the people? Thank you very much.

H.R., Murrieta

Dear H.R.:Common interest

development (CID, aka “HOA”) boards must annually

create a budget

which covers the anticipated

association expenses in the coming year. Civil Code 5600(a), requires the association (acting through its board) to “levy regular and special assessments sufficient to perform its obligations” under the governing documents and the law. Part (b) of the same statute covers the other side of the equation, prohibiting assessments or fees which are not linked to anticipated costs. If the association expenses increase, the board must increase the assessments to make sure the property is properly maintained and preserved. Whether your home is part of an association or not, it is a fact of life that certain expenses are part of home ownership and must be handled. In a CID, those expenses are handled by the board.

Civil 5605 a l l o w s board to

increase assessments by up to 20% per year, regardless of the CID governing documents. Associations which “cap” spending often usually do so by

deferring proper maintenance and by shorting their reserve fund deposits – that is short-sighted. However, if you pursue a petition to cap spending, you need to also make sure to cap the association’s expenses. If you can figure out how to limit your bills, please call me, I want to learn that trick also!

Thanks for your question, Kelly

Mr. Richardson,What standard percentage

of the total Reserve Fund do most HOA’s have funded? Our fund is at 140% of the total reserve amount. To me this seems unnecessarily high.

Each year the board seems to misunderstand the intent and

purpose of the fund. In my view it is merely

an estimate of term of life and

e s t i m a t e d

replacement cost. Thus, having

such a high percentage of the fund in reserve is a huge burden on the residents, correct?

Thank you, D.M., Ripon

Dear D.M.:If your association reserve

account is overfunded, the association may be technically violating the aforementioned Civil Code 5600(b), requiring assessments to be linked to anticipated expenses. If your association reserve fund larger than the reserve study requires, the board should consult with its reserve study preparer to recalibrate its contributions. Civil Code 5550 requires associations to create or obtain a reserve study each three years and review it annually. If your association used a professional reserve study preparer, first consult with that expert. Is the study realistically and accurately assessing the need for capital item replacement or refurbishment? Perhaps the board needs to recalibrate the association budget. Remember, the reserve account is your best protection against special assessments or even bank loans (and assessments to cover those payments) if your HOA is not adequately funded.

Since most association reserve accounts are woefully underfunded, if I were to pick which problem to have, I would

quickly choose yours!Thanks, Kelly

By Kevin PowellOne of the largest expenses

families face today is how to educate their children. The Great Recession of 2008 had many far reaching effects. One that seems to have gone unnoticed is the college debt bubble which has soared from $100 billion in 2008 to nearly $1.2 Trillion in 2014. $1 Trillion of that debt comes from the US taxpayer (“We the People”). Student debt makes up about 7% of the overall national debt. It is the second highest form of debt in the US behind home mortgages.

Federal loans carry much more favorable repayment terms when compared to private loans and that’s a minor reason for the explosive growth. Graduates leave college with an average of $27,000 in debt.

Since 2008, tuition has risen about 30% nationally. Through 2014, eight states have seen tuition surge by at least 50%. The highest is Arizona

with an 80% jump; followed by Georgia and Florida at +66%; and California with a 62% leap.

Why? Because many states slashed education funding when the Great Recession hit. The majority of municipal revenues come from real estate taxes. When the real estate bubble imploded in 2008, many cities and states found that their tax income plunged. Florida for example is spending 30% less on college funding today when compared to 2007 levels.

Why have state universities raised tuition so quickly when things are still so tough on so many Americans? Because the Federal government has no check or balance system in place for college costs. If institutions want to double tuition next year, rarely do they get challenged. The current federal system will calculate what a family should pay towards their children’s college (FAFSA) and in many cases much of the rest can be made available through Federal Student loans.

With all this spending, it would reason that college graduates have a high paying job waiting for them when finished, right? Not so fast. A 2013 study showed that a whopping 96% of all college graduates could be in jobs that they are “over qualified” for. This breaks down as follows:

About 48 percent of employed U.S. col lege graduates are in jobs that the

Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) suggests requires less than a four-year college education. Eleven percent of employed college graduates are in occupations requiring more than a high-school diploma but less than a bachelor’s, and 37 percent are in occupations requiring no more than a high-school diploma.

Projections estimate that from 2010-2020, 19 million

college graduates will enter the workforce. However, the number of jobs requiring a four-year college degree is expected to grow by less than seven million.

I think you’ll start to see many families be much more selective of where their children attend college. Families can no longer write a blank check for education and neither can the US taxpayer.

I think most of us would agree that every American student has the right to a higher education and “We the People” should help with that cost. However, the current university system is broke and runaway costs are a huge threat to all our futures.

Written By: Carolyn W. Gaines As Jimi Hendrix would say,

I don’t mean to take up your time writing about Mayweather VS Maidana 2 Post Media Fight Night.

This boxing Rolls Royce venture began; I’m sure many of the boxing fans heard about the “Boxing News” after Mayweather vs Maidana Mayhem 2 bouts. We remember something went wrong, and Maidana couldn’t knock “Money Man” the “The Cat” out, September 13, 2014. The ex-world Championship, Lennox Lewis is regarded by many as one of the greatest heavy-weight boxers of all time said, “Time is not a factor for Floyd, and no one can beat or figure out his style.” This is why; I call him “The Cat Man.’’

Mike Tyson was the first heavy-weight boxer to hold the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles said,”He would get in a physical and a psychologically mental state because age didn’t have anything to do with Mayweather fighting. You have to have the desire.”

Kevin Hart is American actor, and Comedian said, “Floyd’s confidence is what makes him strong.” As Jimi Hendrix’s would say to Mr. Hart wait a minute your son’s name is Hendrix. If Jimi was alive, Hendrix’s would say to Kevin. Did you name your son after me? Man! Please go buy him a guitar for me! Ha! Ha!

This was the most popular evening for Humberto Soto, vs John Molina Jr.-Brawl, James De La Rosa vs Alfredo Angulo-Show Down, September, 2014 winner who is trained by Mayweather Sr. the very skillful Mickey Bey vs Miguel Vazquez.

This young fighter Mickey has fast hands, speed, can’t figure him out like boxing giant Floyd Mayweather Jr.Leo Santa Cruz vs Manuel Roman, bout. All the pre-fighters had time to display their sports of boxing talents.

Then came main “Fistacoff” September evening 2014 between Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana. The Money Catman won. A special history note: The Queenbury Rules to be a fair stand up boxing requiring match in 24 foot rings and no wrestling or hugging allowed. The world knows Floyd Mayweather is number of 1 and two matches away from Rocky Marciano’s

dangerous perfect record-49 wins in 49 professional bouts, with 43 knockouts. Don’t be upset about Money Man is not the World’s Best-kept secret in the boxing game, but Blues Legendary Roy Gaines is the best-kept secret in the Blues game.

Business and Talent wise, if you’re afraid of Mayweather Jr. and Gaines go to your kitchen cook some collard greens, cornbread with south, pork bacon, and fry some greasy, fried chicken. Ha! Ha!

Let “Chat’ About Corona Extra, Golden Boy, Mayweather Promotions, Mexico, O’reilly, Showtime Post Media After The Fight With Carolyn W. Gaines.

He said,” No, Floyd is very fast on his feet,”

Question from Media addressed to Maidana?

Mark Taper Forum Presents “Marjorie Prime”By Jack Lyons Theatre & Movie Critic

Sometimes it’s difficult to label a play in the traditional manner: Is it a drama, a comedy, is it both, or is it a mystery? In the case of the World Premiere production ”Marjorie Prime”, now on stage at the Mark Taper Forum, it’s a safe bet to say that it’s a little bit all of the aforementioned.

Written by young (37), seasoned, award-winning playwright Jordan Harrison, and directed by Obie winner Les Waters, “Marjorie Prime” is an outside-the-box creative and enigmatic story- premise whose time has come. And, it all takes place in less than 100 minutes.

What takes place on the stage of the Taper is playwright Harrison’s thought provoking “Marjorie Prime” drama of the future. It’s the sort of story that is right up director Les Waters’ alley, and one that writer Rod Serling would, most assuredly endorse. Despite all of the electronics and gadgetry in our tech-heavy society, human stories are still the most engaging and interesting.

The play asks questions about the difference between a

life lived and a life remembered in this, at times, very poignant drama. Everyone’s life is filled with laughter and tears. And Harrison hasn’t left out any of the irony or the comedy in Marjorie’s story. It’s how we juggle and accept or reject life’s events that makes one’s journey so compelling and interesting.

The story in short, is set in motion by Marjorie (a wonderfully wry Lois Smith) a clever woman who at age 85 finds her memory is failing. She is living out her days at an assisted living facility where she is frequently visited by her anxious daughter Tess (Lisa Emery) and her kind, easygoing son-in-law, Jon (Frank Wood). With the urging of Jon and the facility and despite Tess’ misgivings, a mysterious young man, Walter (Jeff Ward), joins the group with the hope that he can help reverse Marjorie’s decline. Through an ingenious series of shifting realities, Walter’s nature is revealed, and the family’s memories gently unfold into a cathartic meditation on life and loss, and the desire to keep our dearly departed with us.

There is no test to be given at the end of the play, but Harrison and Waters definitely

challenge the audience to be patient; stay engaged and focused on the story in order to fully appreciate the magic that is taking place in front of them by these four talented actors. The splendidly executed ensemble paints a portrait of a future society we may all be destined to confront one day like it or not. So, pay attention and discover the relevancy of what’s being said on the stage. It may come in handy.

The Taper’s technical credits are always first rate and this production is no exception. Director Waters leads a creative team that includes: Set Designer Mimi Lien who provides a spare, monochromatic and functional stage, along with Lighting Designer Lap Chi Chu’s mood-inducing lighting that meets the look required for the assisted living requirement.

“Marjorie Prime” may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if one goes with the flow and vision of the director and the ideas behind the playwright’s imagination, it can be an intriguing, provocative, and interesting evening in the theatre. The production runs through October 19, 2014.

By Desert Star StaffPALM DESERT, CA—The

California Community Colleges Board of Governors selected College of the Desert (COD) as one of the community colleges to receive their 2014 Energy and Sustainability Award.

The award was issued to the College for taking steps to reduce energy used in the Multi-Agency Library related to the Proposition 39 categories known as ‘Commissioning.’

COD was one of the first community colleges in the state to undergo a Retro-Commissioning project. The college served as a pilot project for others to follow. Retro-Commissioning generally has very favorable cost-to-return benefits when seeking ways to reduce energy usage.

The library was selected for the project because many

changes have been made to the building, including replacement of major air conditioning equipment, remodeling, and changes in hours of use since it was built in 1996. In addition, energy management systems have significantly improved in the last 14 years.

The project was entirely funded by a combination of Proposition 39 allocation and incentives from Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas through the California Community College/Investor-Owned Owned Utility Partnership. That group served as the clearinghouse for the project, approving the concept and calculations.

The application was submitted in summer of 2013 following an engineering feasibility study. It was approved

for funding in November of 2013 and completed by the deadline for use of the Prop 39 allocation for the year, June of 2014. Five different energy-saving measures were identified and implemented.

Steve Renew, the college’s Director of Facilities, now retired, stated, “It is anticipated, and initial measurement and verification indicate, that the annual savings will be in excess of 375, 000kwh of electricity usage and 5,500 therms of gas usage. Those are annual cost savings of approximately $50,000 per annum.”

Other energy and sustainability awards were presented to: Copper Mountain College, Retrofit Project Winner; Cañada College, Self-generation Projects; Imperial Valley College, Deemed Incentive Projects; Skyline College, Faculty/Student Initiatives; and Palo Verde Community College, Glendale Community College, Feather River College, Santa Monica College, College of the Canyons, all received Honorable Mentions.

College of the Desert’s Policy on Sustainability states, “All-District District buildings, in response to the policy, will be LEED certified, most at the Silver level and some at the Gold level.” The college has found that good, sensible planning that responds to the local climate and site put buildings well within the range of LEED Silver certification. LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council

(USGBC) is the benchmark of sustainable planning. Taking the extra step of registering college projects for LEED certification and commissioning both the construction process and the buildings adds very little cost to the project, yet demonstrates the college’s commitment to building and operating facilities sustainably.

The Multi-Agency Library opened in April 1996. The facility

is 43,000 square feet and can house 150,000 volumes in its combined College and Public Library collections. COD has three study rooms for currently enrolled students, a room with computers for student use, textbooks for students to use while in the library, reference services to help students find what they need, and many other services.

By Frazier MooreAP Television Writer

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Let’s just go ahead and make it official. “Thursday” should be renamed “Shonday.”

At least it should on ABC, which has handed its entire Thursday prime-time schedule to drama doyenne Shonda Rhimes.

Starting this week at 8 p.m. EDT, it’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” with Rhimes the showrunner for this medical melodrama’s 11th season. At 9 p.m., “Scandal” begins its fourth year with Rhimes also serving as show-runner.

Then, closing out Shonday at 10 p.m., “How To Get Away With Murder” premieres with Viola Davis as a rife-with-mystery criminal lawyer who apparently will do anything to spring her clients and who, as a law

professor, trains her students to do the same.

Unlike the other two series, created by Rhimes, “Murder” was masterminded by Pete Nowalk, whose producing credits include “Grey’s” and “Scandal.” On this wicked new addition to the ShondaLand portfolio, Rhimes will serve “only” as executive producer: “I’m like the grandmother,” she joked. “I hold the baby, then I give it back.”

This baby has a clear family resemblance: “Murder” crackles with rat-a-tat dialogue, larger-than-life characters, outrageously tangled narratives, and a rainbow coalition of a cast led, as with “Scandal,” by an African-American actress.

“It’s a show I never would have thought of in a million years,” Rhimes said. “But I

feel like it fits exactly in the ShondaLand brand.”

Fittingly, the “Murder” heroine is driven, charismatic and diabolical, even more so, arguably, than “Scandal” cleanup queen Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington).

“I really wanted to create a character who’s always 10 steps ahead of us,” said Nowalk in a separate interview. “If I know what a character’s going to do before they do it, what’s so interesting about that? And if they’re always likable and good in what they do, I don’t find that relatable.”

“We operate not from our morals,” said Davis, savoring the mindset of the character she plays. “We’re driven by need, no matter how messy it gets.”

Though a veteran actress whose film credits include “Traffic,” ‘’Antwone Fisher,” ‘’Doubt” and “The Help,” Davis is a newcomer to ShondaLand. But she was quick to size it up as “like a family,” headed up by a matriarch “with courage, imagination and ability.”

The “ShondaLand” handle began as “kind of a joke,” said Rhimes. Then, for the company it now identifies, it took hold as shorthand for a shared mission statement. “We all know what we’re talking about in terms of the work and the attitude, and that term sums up our goal.”

A storyteller from childhood, the Chicago-born Rhimes had written the script for the 1999

HBO film “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge,” followed by the Britney Spears hit, “Crossroads,” and the 2004 sequel to “The Princess Diaries.”

But it was “Grey’s Anatomy,” a 2005 midseason replacement, that put Rhimes and ShondaLand on the map.

Today, at age 44, Rhimes reigns as a hitmaker unmatched in TV history, just days from not only ruling a full night of ABC real estate, but also stewarding two broadcast-network dramas with black women as protagonists.

“Why did it take somebody black to talk about being black?” Rhimes said, marveling that TV has stubbornly resisted mirroring the world she and most people live in, a world she has tried to reflect through her matter-of-fact inclusiveness of race as well as gender, age and sexuality.

“There is no token system,” she said. “We’re gonna cast the best actor for the part. And then our cast makes it feel real and true - they elevate everything.”

(Last week, Rhimes shot back at a New York Times columnist who, in a widely criticized column, referenced her as an “angry black woman” and wrote that that “How To Get Away With Murder” was “yet another showcase series from her production company to showcase a powerful, intimidating black woman.”

“How come I am not an ‘angry black woman’ the many times Meredith (or Addison!)

rants?” Rhimes tweeted. The Times public editor on Monday called the article “astonishingly tone-deaf and out of touch.”)

But ultimately everything issues from Rhimes. All roads in ShondaLand lead to her, which begs an obvious question: How does she do it all, turning out this quantity of product while preserving a consistency of vision and voice?

“There’s a feeling of flying by the seat of our pants,” she said. “And it seems sometimes like we’re telling something crazy. But it doesn’t feel crazy to us. There’s a plan to what we’re trying to tell, with larger themes that I feel strongly about: lives of women, race in America, politics. I don’t want to say I’m on a soap box, but there are moments when you can rant a little bit, and that’s kind of fun.

“Mostly, we’re enjoying ourselves. We all love what we’re doing,” she said, then registered the fact she hadn’t quite explained herself. “I guess the answer is, I don’t know.”

One last question was easier to answer: How does it feel to be a big-time TV mogul?

“It feels great,” she beamed. “It’s an amazing vote of confidence from the network. It’s an exciting moment.”

But before she let herself get too carried away, she cited a Michael Jordan quote. It’s the one where he summed up his job as just playing basketball. Source: KMIR

Interactions, working with colleagues, planning, and agendas proceed forward as communication becomes less difficult. However, there are many relationship responsibilities to consider, focus upon, order and organize. This must be done immediately. Financial cons iderat ion must be communicated to the “other”, thus bring order and organization to all relationships. Surrender with love.

Words describing the coming month - creativity, research, food, yogurt, purity, structure, restructure, money, finances, desire, aspiration, old friends, relationship(s). All play out, one by one as you simultaneously attempt to understand the spiritual science of how all things are made. You understand to bring forth the new world, humanity must work with the Devas (Light Beings). You contact them. They respond.

When studying Gemini’s chart, I see a natural slowing down process occurring due to Saturn the house of daily life. Saturn is creating a new structure of creativity with greater dimension of beauty. As you bring forth Right Relations with all the kingdoms, especially the Devas, you bring

forth a new level of awareness within yourself and the outer world summoning a new life direction.

It’s important to begin speaking with greater truth and clarity concerning personal needs while also tending to the needs of family, friends, animal and plant kingdom. Eventually, through them you are tending the entire world. Cancer nourishes. You need nourishment, too, and it’s important understand what that is. Tending children is one type of nourishment. There are other types that you specifically need. What are they?

As you assess financial expenditures you’re thinking and planning, seeking facts and figures expand exponentially. Gradually you realize your home needs tending, clearing, cleaning, ordering and perhaps even re-doing somewhere. Especially the garden. For now, organizing thoughts is the important focus. Should you need anything, now is a good time to ask. Your creativity is electric, fiery, red and hot. Careful!

It’s time to realize a new self-image is pending. You need new colors, clothes, hair, shoes and a new perception of self. Think

value and style. Style makes one unusual, fashionable, on the edge. Few consider style to be important. You’re capable of this in detail. It’s easy for you to become habitual believing the same old ways of being. Stand up, shake off the old values, set new priorities, becoming who you want to be.

Venus, your ruler is in your 12th house (Pisces) of retreat, solitude, prayer, religion and contemplation. Reading harbors you, calms nerves, removes the usual responsibilities. Allow yourself to feel proud and at work. Always offering yourself to the world, your excellent talents are recognized. It’s time to save more (money), tithe to those in need, and offer unconditional love. You’re to “love everything and everyone more.”

The months have brought forth great changes, which will continue. Scorpio, sign of life and death, transformation and regeneration, the phoenix rising from the ashes, is used to constant. Scorpio invites other everyone to join them. They are afraid (of you, death, transformation, regeneration experiences). You’re often alone. This is a planned evolutionary situation. You’re to become the Disciple. The New Group of World Servers calls.

Each sign has planetary rulers. This means the spiritual energies of each constellation, in order to reach us, stream through a planet. For Sagittarius, your planet is Jupiter, Ray 2 of Love/Wisdom. Jupiter is in Leo. “What does this mean”, your Sag mind always asks? That you are to gather love within yourself. It comes from the heart of the sun. Absorb it daily. It heals, soothes, protects and transforms. Do this consciously.

You’re out and about in the world, almost all the time. At times there’s a feeling of needing to be home, more. However, the world calls you. Because of this you want no complications, less responsibilities, and time to contemplate goals, aspirations, future objectives, family needs. You have many responsibilities. Ask for help each day. Share domestic tasks. Capricorns, due to Pluto’s influence, are experiencing powerful and compelling states of transformation. Careful!

Previously Neptune in Aquarius refined, changed your sense of self. Now Neptune will shift finances, resources and values. Decide what your gifts are. Produce your very best work daily. Much will be expected

of you in coming months. Accomplishment now will be reflected and expanded later. You will be seen in the world more and more. All that you do now become the seeds of personal well-being and prosperity. You might meet someone special.

You have a sense that you don’t quite know what you’re doing, what boat you’re steering or where you’re going. This creates vulnerability. You try to be practical about the future, yet it’s elusive. You want one thing and the opposite appears. You need a safe harbor, a nest, a cocoon. Tend very carefully to your money, finances, resources. There is residual ongoing grief. Remember B vitamins and Ignatia Amara (homeopathy for grief). Wait. Cry. Eat. Live. Love. Forgive. Keep sailing.

Shari Belafonte Celebrates Her 60Th Birthday

Temple Isaiah Dedicates Three Simi Dabah Sculptures

By Pamela PriceIt was a nonstop desert

birthday for one of America’ s classic fitness personalities and “cover girls” from the 1980s, Shari Belafonte. This multi talented woman modeled for magazines from Vogue to Vanity Fair during her career, portrayed Julie Gillette on ABC’s series “Hotel” and hasn’t taken a break, it seems until she decided to turn 60 years old. It all happened in Palm Springs, starting Sept 19th at Gallery 446 in Palm Springs, with a string of high-energy art gallery openings, lunches and

brunches; Laurie Weitz, Shari’s gal pal called it a “nonstop birthday.” Celebrating with family and friends, literally from morning to night highlighted by her famous father Harry Belafonte, calypso legend, actor, activist and winner of Emmys, Grammy and more brought the spotlight on this marvelous father daughter success story.

At Gallery 446 Dimitri Halkidis, the gallery’s gregarious owner was dashing around-the-clock meeting and greeting a galaxy of guests who stopped chatting only briefly to grab an

egg roll or two from platters filled delicacies catered by Wangs. Shari’s photographs filled the gallery, off beat, hilarious, and unpredictable, they reflected her unpredictable sense of humor and nonstop energy.

That was confirmed by guests Chris Bennet of Renegade Entertainment Co., Tony Turk of Turk Entertainment in West Hollywood and beauty experts Andrew P. Young and David E. Yerks of the David Andrew Salon in Palm Springs ( one in a daunting kilt).

Shari’s paintings, several from her Havana period are also on exhibit at Cello’s An American

Bistro in Cathedral City. The next morning, Sept. 20th

this moveable feast resumed at the nostalgic Purple Room in Palm Springs. Among the 100 or so guests were Greg Purdy, now in command of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway’s public relations after years of putting the Palm Springs Follies on the world map of entertainment, Alan and JoAnn Horwitz, ardent supporters of the desert’s art scene and Larry and Laurie Weitz, who brought their love of art, modernism, and creativity to the desert from Malibu. Laurie, the desert’s delightful social butterfly and art curator said Shari’s most recent

exhibit “ was a blend of celebrity, charity and art that put a smile on Palm Springs. Her newest exhibit “Give Me Your Goofiest” a collection of photographs from celebrities, such as Suzanne Sommers to artfully posed dogs was installed especially for the birthday crowd at Gallery 446. You can still catch Shari’s spirit by stopping by Gallery 446 in Palm Springs. Grace Robbins, authors hit the nail on the head when she commented, “You might say

Shari’s birthday parties were a work of art from to start to finish!”

By Pamela PriceRabbi Sally Olin’s spiritual

leader of Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs dedicated three sculptures by Simi Dabah, well known Joshua Tree artist on September 20, at 6:00 PM. , Mogen David, Diamonds and Chaukiah. Mr. Dabah has been designing sculptures from industrial scrap for more than forty years donating them to public and non-profit organizations.

He recently presented five of his sculptures to Cathedral City, which can be seen at various locations, including one next to their City Hall. Rabbi Sally explained that most of the artist’s outdoor sculptures were left in its natural state “rusting to a warm patina over the years.”

The sculpture, titled “Mogen David” can be seen at the entrance to the Louis and Florence Kitses Jewish Community Center on West Alejo Road, another; Diamonds is installed on the south facade of Temple Isaiah, and the third, Chanukiah is located in the

Blindman Garden, off the Warsaw Ballroom on the lower level.

It was there guests gathered to hear about how the sculptures came to find a new home at Temple Isaiah and meet Simi Dabah and his wife, Jewel. A “Champagne and Chocolate” reception followed in the Vener Lobby. Instrumental in their swift action in arranging the selection, delivery and installation of the three sculptures were Douglas Morton and Christopher Green of Temple Isaiah. “ We had originally planned on one of Simi’s sculptures, but after visiting his outdoor studio in Joshua Tree, we found that there were three of his original works of art that would be perfectly suited for Temple Isaiah. It was a matter of few months to make that happen, and for that we are delighted,” they both agreed. After Cantorial Soloist, Alan Scott concluded the dedication guests, there was a guided to tour. Boris Gurevich, brand new to the desert said, “ the sculptures looked as if they have always been here, it’s as if

they have finally found their long-awaited home at Temple Isaiah.”

During the reception Miriam and Nat Bent, Dr. Ron and Carol

Fragen and Grace Robbin agreed the new Simi Dabah sculptures add an exciting dimension to one of the desert’s classic mid

century modern buildings.

Japan-via-NYC duo Cibo Matto Come to CABy Desert Star Staff

CIBO MATTO will be joined by guitar genius Nels Cline (Wilco) on their FALL FLAVOR tour in the US in September and October, following the release of Hotel Valentine earlier this year, their first album since 1999.

Whoever thought when “Know Your Chicken” came out in the mid-90s it would make such a mark on the culture? We’re talking about a surrealist pastiche about magenta chickens set to boom-BAP break beats and muted trumpet, rapped by a pair of grinning Japanese girls so obsessed with eating that they named every song on their first record after food. It doesn’t exactly spell commercial success, especially for a then-unknown avant-pop act from New York City whose name is Italian for “Crazy Food.”

Self-produced over a two-year period by Miho Hatori and Yuka C. Honda, Hotel Valentine is their most impressive release to date as it finds them constructing a rich concept album, a love story amid the ghosts traversing the hallways of a hotel. Underneath the lush sonic palate, they have created the soundtrack to an invisible film as they’ve continued to refine their sound and remain fully committed to an ethic of fun.

Helping to create the kaleidoscopic, post-regional grooves and funky blasts of pure dance ability on Hotel Valentine

are guitarist Nels Cline, drummer Glenn Kotsche, percussionist Mauro Refosco, vocalist Reggie Watts, trumpeter Michael Leonhart, trombonist Aaron Johnson, Douglas Wieselman and many others.

Unlike most pretenders, Cibo Matto’s music is an entirely self-contained world, a look into the fantasy lives of Hatori and Honda. Both women were raised in Japan, but met in New York’s vivid 90s Lower East Side art scene that included John Zorn, Sean Lennon, the Beastie Boys, and Marc Ribot, a brief period of colorful experimentation at the outset of the Giuliani administration. Soon after they met, the pair formed a punk band called Leitoh Lychee (frozen lychee nut), which eventually morphed into the post-genre freak out that Cibo Matto would become. Within six months, David Byrne came to see them at a show and Warner Brothers picked them up off the strength of one self-released cassette tape. This initiated one of the most colorful careers of the 90s. Cibo Matto exploded internationally, touring worldwide and releasing two classic records, 1996’s Viva! La Woman and 1999’s Stereo Type A. Their live shows and albums were marked by wild experimentation, incorporating hip-hop, Brazilian music, African and Latin jazz, and pop into their unclassifiable mix.

They collaborated extensively with Yoko Ono, as well as the renowned French director Michel Gondry, who lent his visionary style to cement them in the budding consciousness of the MTV generation with his legendary video for “Sugar Water.” They sold over 100,000 of both of albums and graced seven magazine covers. Then, in a bizarre changes of destiny, many fans discovered Cibo Matto performing in an infamous scene on an early episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Spin magazine included the debut album in their “100 Best Albums of the ‘90s” list, and Time magazine picked it in their list of the “Best Hip Hop Albums of All Time.” Their adoring fanbase grew until 2001, when the band announced an

extended hiatus. During that 10-year interval, both women worked on numerous interesting projects. Yuka Honda released three solo experimental albums on John Zorn’s Tzadik Records, recorded albums with jazz great Dave Douglas and Yoshimi (of the Boredoms), meanwhile producing a number of Japanese pop artists and acclaimed albums by Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band and Martha Wainwright. Miho Hatori released a solo album, two Brazilian discs with Beck guitarist Smokey Hormel & percussionist Mauro Refosco, guested on three Beastie Boys songs, and sang the role of Noodle on the Gorillaz first album, including lead vocals on the hit “19-2000.”

Says Honda, “Having

spent some time apart, we became more aware of our magical chemistry, our magnetic bond. We both realized we had unfinished business.” On February 14, 2011 a Cibo Matto light bulb flickered, and they struck upon the idea of an invisible film, a score without motion, an album called Hotel Valentine.

Hotel Valentine is a metaphor, a question, an answer, an idea, a feeling; A strange and vivid scene. “Hotel Valentine is the cinematic bricolage of Yuka and me,” Says Hatori. “Our medium is music. For me, making an album is like raising a child. We don’t know what kind of person (story) they will end up to be.”

Will be making a rare visit to play at Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA on September 28

Día De Los Muertos Festival Comes To CoachellaBy Desert Star Staff

STUDIO CITY, CA– Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, a long standing Latino holiday with indigenous roots dating back to Aztec times, has taken its place in mainstream culture boasting festivities worldwide. Though traditions may slightly differ among cultures, the holiday (typically taking place from Oct.31-Nov. 2) commemorates the dead and brings families together in enjoyment of life. In keeping with this celebrated tradition, Luz Entertainment in conjunction with the City of Coachella are proud to create the first Día de los Muertos USA spectacular two-day festival taking place on November 1st and 2nd at Rancho Las Flores Park in the City of Coachella. The festival is filled with celebrations of life--a full-on experience featuring art, entertainment and culinary enjoyment created by multi-talented artist-producer and President and CEO of Rodri Entertainment, Luz Entertainment Rodri J. Rodríguez.

“Día de los Muertos transcends the once a year celebration. It’s a way to honor

the dead… celebrate the living,” said Rodríguez, Visionary Cultural Arts Advocate and Creator of MARIACHI USA, a festival that achieved its 25 year milestone at the legendary Hollywood Bowl this year. “Our festival reinforces a positive way of looking at life and death through the many experiences we provide.”

“We’re excited to partner with Ms. Rodríguez, her accomplishments and vision are tremendous,” said Mark Weber, Economic Development Manager for the City of Coachella. “We anticipate Día de los Muertos USA will become an annual signature destination event attracting audiences from throughout the USA and internationally with thousands of new visitors enjoying the City of Coachella.”

Día de los Muertos USA is an all-encompassing cultural event, featuring an all-star musical line-up of live entertainment with various genres of music including Cumbia, Regional Mexican, Mariachi, Norteño, Banda and Pop, with talent ranging from Conjunto Primavera to Los Tucanes de Tijuana to La Santa Cecilia.

The festival will also feature the signature show MARIACHI USA. The art component to the event is massive and will highlight ‘ofrendas-altars’ including artistic and themed altars paying tribute to various causes and artists such as the United Farm Workers, those who have passed from AIDS and iconic entertainment figures such as Selena, José Alfredo Jiménez, Shakespeare, Mozart and many more as well as a community altar for which attendees are invited to bring a photo of a loved one or pet to place on the altar. Día de los Muertos USA will also include large art installations in key locations throughout the park like the Catrina Runway show and the largest Pan de Muertos ever made.

Guests may enjoy traditional holiday delicacies such as Día de los Muertos breads, churros, aguas frescas as well as an array of food truck and restaurant offerings. The event will be filled with fun the entire family can enjoy, such as themed face and body painting mask making and arts and crafts. Visit www.diadelosmuertosusa.com

‘Walk Among the Tombstones’ - A Terrific Thriller F I LM BY THEDA KLEINHANS REICHMAN

Currently, we have been suffering through a real heat wave with triple digit temps and little relief in sight. There’s always a plunge in a swimming pool for a quick fix, or you can chill out in an air-conditioned movie. Sadly, most summer films have been disappointing, but now, just in the nick of time. A great thriller has opened starring Liam Neeson as private eye Matthew Scudder in Universal’s late-summer hit “ Walk Among the Tombstones.” The film, based on Lawrence Block’s novel, is by far one of the best movies released this year. And of course it stars Liam Neeson which is another big plus.

Scudder, a former NYC cop, has left the force and is working as a private detective. A recovering alcoholic, he regularly attends AA meetings and has been clean and sober for eight years. As the film opens it is 1991, and Neeson, while still on police duty, has gone to one of his favorite bars for a few quick drinks when two young thugs come in and kill the bartender during a robbery attempt. Immediately Scudder follows in hot pursuit, but what happens next is the reason why he quits NYPD and joins AA. The incident has haunted him ever since.

The film cuts from 1991 and his troubled past to 1999 when Scudder is asked by a fellow AA participant to find the killer of his brother’s wife. It turns out the brother is a drug dealer whose beautiful wife was kidnapped for ransom. Even though he raises the ransom money, the dealer’s young wife is brutally murdered. Devastated, her husband seeks revenge with Scudder’s help, and he’s willing to pay big bucks.

Scudder begins his search at the library. As he slowly and

painstakingly goes through countless newspaper murder features he starts to see a pattern in several recent horrific killings. The women were all disfigured and mutilated just as the drug dealer’s wife was. While Scudder is a street smart, he is a computer stupid. When he notices a scruffy young teenager across from him, who is a wiz with a mouse, he begins a conversation with the kid. Soon he has talked him into helping him search through countless files for a fee of twenty bucks, a few kind words and a meal. This, it turns out, is the start of an unusual, but compelling friendship as Scudder keeps running into the homeless kid who admires him and would like to be a superhero detective himself. Their relationship adds to this engrossing thriller as Scudder exposes clues, beginning in a nearby cemetery where another young woman’s body was found in several trash bags floating on the pond not too long ago.

The film skillfully tracks down leads, clues and suspects with plenty of twists and turns. The action is fast paced, and Neeson is believable as the gritty ex-cop that has beaten the battle with booze by constantly taking everything one day at a time. And Neeson is flawless as Matt Scudder, a flawed man who is not adverse to a bribe or working just outside the law. This being said, he still is a man of personal honor and integrity. While he’s not perfect, he has his own moral code and scruples. Neeson’s Scudder is a guy you can’t help liking. He’s a man who is strong, yet vulnerable. This is coupled with innate competence and a sadness that radiates from his gazes as he faces personal

demons on and off the job. Overal l , the f i lm is

engrossing and keeps your interest throughout as Matt tracks down a pair of killers you will love to hate. And the relationship with Scudder and

the kid should hopefully lead to a sequel soon. Neeson’s Scudder is a compelling lead character—a hard-boiled cop with a soft center.

The ultimate confrontation turns out to be a bit Hollywood,

but overall the film is engrossing and well done, with a conclusion that leaves us with a good feeling. I am certain that the sad-eyed Matthew Scudder will be back. Hopefully soon. From Universal, rated R.

MUS I C BY ROBERT KINSLER

Outstanding LPs from bluesman Joe Bonamassa, country singer Tim McGraw and genre-defying singer-guitarist Gary Clark Jr. are among the wonderful new releases out this month.

Artist: Joe BonamassaTitle: Different Shades of Blue (J&R Adventures)You might like if you enjoy: Walter Trout, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gary Moore

Tell me more: Sonic shadows of Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and Gary Moore abound across Joe Bonamassa’s aptly-titled “Different Shades of Blue.” There is little doubt that fans of the talented singer-songwriter-guitarist will love this 11-track collection of hard-hitting blues-anchored rock, soul and funk. The grooving “Love Ain’t a Love

Song” and “Living on the Moon” take the New York native into R&B territory, while the electric power ballad “Never Give All Your Heart” conjures up vintage Bad Company. The lush title track showcases Bonamassa’s power as a lead vocalist even while he simultaneously unleashes dazzling fret work. Information: jbonamassa.com.

Artist: Gary Clark Jr.Title: Gary Clark Jr. Live (Warner Bros. Records)You might like if you enjoy: Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Gary Moore

Tell me more: Since the death of Jimi Hendrix in September 1970, no singer-guitarist has captured the genre-defying approach of the late legend like Austin’s Gary Clark Jr. On his first ever live

album (“Gary Clark Jr. Live”), the freewheeling spirit that has helped Clark capture legions of fans is fully on display. Whether exploring traditional blues (“Next Door Neighbor Blues,” “Numb”), Chuck Berry-styled rock ‘n’ roll (“Travis County”), tender soul (“Please Come Home”) or guitar-fueled rock (“When My Train Pulls In,” “Bright Lights”), Clark’s musical personality and songwriting are never less than enthralling. Information: GaryClarkJr.com.

Artist: Tim McGrawTitle: Sundown Heaven Town (Big Machine Records)You might like if you enjoy: Gary Allan, Zac Brown Band, Faith Hill

Tell me more: Each and every song on Tim McGraw’s latest album “Sundown Heaven

Town” is infectious enough to chart on modern country radio. What’s more, the songs are delivered with a potency that brings emotional resonance to material that usually lures with sing along-ready choruses and big guitar solos. The beautiful “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools” (a duet with Catherine Dunn) will appeal to lovers of traditional country, while the accessible “City Lights,” “Dust” and “Lookin’ for That Girl” are among the upbeat tunes that grab at first listen. Information: TimMcGraw.com.

Artist: Mark Hummel Title: The Hustle Is Really On (Electro-Fi)You might like if you enjoy: Little Walter, James Cotton, Snooky Pryor

Tell me more: Ace blues

harp player Mark Hummel has joined forces with guitar greats Little Charlie Baty, Anson Funderburgh and Kid Andersen on the traditional blues celebration “The Hustle Is Really On.” The rollicking “Blues Stop Knockin’,” slow Chicago blues burner “I’m Gonna Ruin You” and fiery “What Is That She Got” celebrate early genre heroes such as the late Little Walter and Snooky Pryor. Hummel is a terrific harmonica player, bringing virtuoso play and feeling to the proceedings; his approach brings the style alive for modern-day audiences while honoring the blues’ rich and enduring legacy. Hummel has a number of dates in the West this fall, including several California dates this week. Information: MarkHummel.com.

TeenSafe, maker of the leading iPhone, iPad and Android monitoring software for parents, is reminding moms and dads planning on buying their teen a smartphone this holiday season to be prepared and empowered with the proper tools to help them keep a watchful eye on their child in this technologically advanced world.

“As a society, I think we are beginning to realize that some of the parental controls we currently have in place are just not enough anymore. Children are receiving phones at younger ages every year and because the technology is expanding so quickly, many parents have learned the hard way how these devices can have negative effects,” said Rawdon Messenger, TeenSafe CEO. “With the new iPhone 6

breaking records with preorders this month, we are encouraging parents to set the tone by creating a TeenSafe account before giving their child their initial phone. By creating an expectation from the beginning with a monitoring service, parents can prevent the negative effects before they occur while protecting their children from the doors of opportunity that open as soon as they turn the

phone on for the first time.”TeenSafe gives parents the

ability to see their kids’ incoming, outgoing and deleted text messages, web browsing history, contacts, call logs, location and Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Kik activity through a secure, online account. The technology is the only monitoring solution that works without having to jailbreak your child’s phone and is becoming known for

truly helping parents come to be aware of what their kids are doing that they may not be talking about at home. Parents can take responsible action often before issues become crises.

Thinking Of Buying Your Pre-Teen A Smartphone?

Written By: Carolyn W. Gaines Palm Springs, Ca. On

September 19, 2014, at the Morongo Casino in Palms Springs, Engelbert Humperdinck gave his fans great love songs. Just a short history note: Engelbert Humperdinck born May 2, 1936, in Madras, India. A year before blues/country, jazz legend guitarist-vocalist Roy Gaines was born in Waskom, Texas. Engelbert moved to UK with his family after the war, he started recording as Gerry Dosey in 1956. He knew music crooner’s famed Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, The Rat Pack, Frank Sonata, Kenny Rogers, Gene Simmons, Kenny Rogers, Smokey Robinson, and Elton John for decades.

He recorded an album of duels a two-disc 24 track duets set with Elton John, Smokey Robinson, and Willie Nelson. He forgot to call legendary Blues/ Jazz/ Country Singer Roy Gaines. I asked his tall, charming, handsome son who looks like his father, Mr. Humperdinck. Did he know Blues Great Roy Gaines? His son said, “Yes, right away” I asked his son could; he take me to ask his dad a question for Desert Star Weekly Newspaper, and He immediately said,” No.’’

Two of Engelbert’s most popularized hits are called “After The Lovin” and “Release Me” are

really amazing songs like “Lucille Work For Me” recorded by Roy Gaines. Superstar Humperdinck legendary began his set-off with a song that had beautiful Lyrics: “You Hold Me “Every Day. I wake Up.” His attire was a black tuxedo, trimmed in diamonds, a classy gentleman a bit older, but still handsome for the girls.

Fans enjoyed singing with him “Every Day; I Wake Up.” Every time, He sang “Wake Up” the star would hold up his jacket toward his audience. This little kit had driven fans wild and zany. He has not slowed down just kept on going on stage like a ready battery with his shot glass on stage. That moment reminded me when, I had taken my father Blues great Roy Gaines to Frank Sinatra’s Concert at the Universal Amp Theatre in the 1980s. Frank had his shot glass, and his expense bottle of Jack Daniel sat on top of his baby grand piano. Engelbert engaged his fans with another hit song called, ‘’Help Me Make It Through The Night.” His Fans sang along and knew all of his Lyrics. Engelbert carries a 10 piece band, just like Roy Gaines carries 18 piece band, and Diana Ross carries about 16 piece band.

He has two showgirls background singers. Annette Moore is his graceful, charming diva that knows how to work

Humperdinck’s Fans for sure. She has very beautiful vocals and great stage present. She was very nice to Media and her Boss’s Fans. She has a very healthy demeanor for the music business. I got to Chat with her about her career. I asked her, if she knew my father Roy Gaines. She responded,” Yes and Wow! You are really in the Entertainment Business. My first question, asked of her was, the same way.

I asked manager, Tina, for B.B. King “The King of Blues” Two Questions for Desert Star Weekly Newspaper.

1. What is it like to work for Engelbert Humperdinck?

She said, “A lot of rehearsals, quick on toes, just being fast, a lot of travel international.”

2. Do you practice at Home by yourself?

She said, “ I practice the day before going on the road, listen in my car, and on my iPod to all music for Englebert Humperdinck’s shows on the road.”

3. Can you send the Children a message that don’t listen to their parents, and don’t do their

Home-work? She said,” When you’re a

Child you don’t really know what your parents know. Whenever one’s parents talk about school is because school is very important. Because even though, I am a singer, I am glad. I completed school from a University.

Miss Moore asked me what did I learn from my famous father Roy Gaines about the entertainment business? I said, “That appearance is very important and Hygiene that a great amount of Blues Artists do not care about their dressing codes on stage as well as their Leaders. That when, I go to a concert, I don’t go to see the concerts. That I immediately look at the band’s clothes and listen to determine, if the band rehearsed before going on to the stage.” When, I informed her that appearance and rehearsal

are some of the protocols that I learn from my notable, father, Roy Gaines. Annette’s eyes had gotten bigger than a 14 karate diamond ring because she was amazed at my lessons. Annette immediately said,’’ Mr.Humperdinck just talked to his band about appearance and rehearsal, Today.”

Morongo One Night Super Star sang the hit song,”After The Lovin.” He sat on his stool during Opening of the song, and He blows his Fans Kisses.” Just like Diana Ross does at the end of her shows. He said,” it is getting a little warmer on stage.” Next, He began to undress says this is the farthest that I am going, No Bra.” Fans laughed for Days!!! He was joking with his Fans.

He said.’ ‘I don’t drink, but it’s a habit. It’s been 21 years since I had a drink. Sometimes, I lie. Ha!

Then he picked up his talents began to sing Tom Jones song,” It’s Not Unusual To Be Loved By Anyone.’’ fans were day dreaming. He talked about his best friend Dean Martin told him never to go on stage sober. Humperdinck said,” I Know.” Fans laughed 7 miles down the 10 West Freeway.

He pulled a song out of his new album with his buddy’s Kenny Rogers, Elton John, Gene Simmons, Kenny Rogers, Elton John. Lyrics were “There was A Time; when, I Was

Nothing.” His notes Low and High

were breath taking. He is a true professional blast from his Fans past. He asked his Fans may; I sit down a little while, and get some rest because those women were knocking on my door all night, and finally. I let them out.” Fans were laughing, clapping, standing, and very happy.

He has a special part of his heart for sharing, and I knew, If he really had known that I only wanted to ask him two questions, plus I am a legend’s daughter. He would have said yes. Because, he paid tribute to all of his business friends, especially Willie Nelson by wearing a red scarf. Fans were clapping during Nelson’s kit quite amazing entertainer whom Engelbert Humperdinck. I learn about Humperdinck from my ,father, Roy Gaines.

Engelbert sings with a lot of passion like blues, country, jazz singer Roy Gaines; when, the guitarist sang “The World’s Biggest Fool”, “Make Our Dreams Come True,” and” I’m just Another Blues.”

Engelbert vocals are stronger, better, with the great vocal range, and control. Mr. Engelbert a true entertainer rest of the way, and He has more to give his fans. He gave love, love to please his fans September 19, 2014. We love You!!

INDIO – In a tale of two halves, the Shadow Hills High School Knights football team staved off a massive second-half comeback by the Cathedral City Lions at home on Friday. Adding another victory to the win column is paramount, but almost as important to the players and coaches, the Knights defeated two Desert Valley League teams in three weeks.

Coming off its first loss of the season last week, the Lions (0-0 in DVL, 2-2 Overall) entered the game against the Knights (0-0 in De Anza, 2-2 Overall) looking to prove they are among the DVL’s best, but in the first half Cathedral City looked far

from elite. Poor play calling, poor execution and confusion sums up the first 30 minutes of the game for the visitors.

To put the Lions’ play into perspective, following Tony Williams’ two touchdowns that put the Knights up 14-0 early, senior multi-sport athlete Orlando Wallace uncharacteristically fumbled the kick-off return, giving Shadow Hill the ball back. With only 1:10 gone by in the second quarter, Williams flipped the turnover into a touchdown run, which put Shadow Hills up 14-0 early.

On their next drive, Cathedral City’s quarterback Davin Lile fumbled and Knights linebacker Robert Lares

scooped up the pigskin and ran 65-yards for the touchdown. Talk about demoralizing, the Lions were down 21-0 and there was still 9:02 left to play in the second quarter.

The Lions were expected to have an explosive offense this season, however, failed to get much of anything going in the first half in Indio. Unsuccessful on their third fourth-down conversion attempt of the game, Lile’s offense gave the ball back to the Knights with 32.7 seconds left in the second quarter. Shadow Hills quarterback, Isaiah Ortega-Dage, ran in a six-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 27-0 going into the half.

“He made things happen,”

Knights head coach Ron Shipley said of Ortega-Dage’s performance. “The ran with a lot of heart and he got every yard he could. He’s a competitor and he’s going to give us everything he’s got on every play. That’s what we expect out of him and that’s what he gave us (tonight).”

The tone for the second half was set from the opening kick-off, where Wallace ran 95-yards for an electrifying, momentum-shifting touchdown. The Lions were hyped up, but yet again, shoddy defense gave up a 31-yard touchdown pass to Noah Brown and the Knights were up 33-7.

Despi te g iv ing the touchdown, what was not working in the first half seemed to be working in the second; the Lions were moving the ball and getting stops on defense. A huge 31-yard pass to receiver Darrien Broom set up a touchdown on a Lile quarterback sneak – a successful two-point conversion cut the score to 33-15.

With the Knights unable to get anything going, Cathedral City’s defense stepped up again and forced another punt. Capitalizing on the stop, Lile threw a six-yard touchdown to Broom and with 8:55 left in the game. Now 33-23, the Lions’ now-tenacious defense gave Lile another opportunity to shrink the deficit.

A clutch, 50-yard bomb to Brandon Knoll put the Cathedral City offense in the Knights’ red zone. With only four minutes left in the game, Wallace scored his second touchdown of the night on a three-yard run. Shockingly, the Lions were only within a field goal, 33-30, and had all the momentum.

Shadow Hi l l s had surrendered 23 consecutive points, yet all Ortega-Dage and Williams needed to do was run the clock out to secure the

win. Continuing its second-half surge, with 50 seconds left in the game, the Cathedral City defense knew there was football left to play and forced a gigantic turnover.

Down 33-7 at one point, to having the win in their sights, the Lions just needed a field goal to at least send the game into overtime – which would be a slight moral victory considering the game’s start. When it mattered the most, the Knights defense buckled down and stepped up with the biggest play of the game. With 40 ticks left, Nathan Tiaga intercepted Lile’s pass, sealing the 33-30 win for Shadow Hills.

“I thought we played great, we played with a lot of heart, a lot of tenacity,” Coach Shipley said. “We played together in that first half and we made way too many mistakes in that second half so we have to find a way to put two halves together.”

In addition to confidently controlling and acting like a true leader of the Shadow Hills offense, Ortega-Dage finished the game with two touchdowns (rushing and passing), 109 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards. Including his two touchdowns, Williams ended the game with 86 rushing yards. Lile had 152 passing yards but two turnovers to go with touchdown for the Lions. Wallace had 91 rushing yards to go with his two touchdowns.

The Shadow Hills Knights have a bye this week but open up the De Anza League season at Desert Mirage on Oct. 3. This Friday, the Lions welcome the Coachella Valley Arabs to Cathedral City High School for the Desert Valley League opener. Game starts at 7 pm.

By KMIR News StaffRIVERSIDE COUNTY-Nearly

$1 million in property tax over payments from Riverside County residents and businesses will likely be deposited into the general fund by vote of the Board of Supervisors tomorrow.

According to Treasurer-Tax Collector Don Kent, the county has $974,724 in unclaimed receipts -- going back to tax year 1991 -- now destined for the treasury. Between May 1 and Aug. 1, the county advised via newspapers and the county website how people could check to determine whether they were entitled to any of the money.

Last year, the Office of the Treasurer-Tax Collector started out with 2,214 individual overpayments totaling $2.35 million, Kent said. Thanks to stepped-up efforts by treasurer staff -- including phone calls to some recipients alerting them to the fact they had money waiting to be claimed -- the amount was dramatically reduced, lowering the number of prospective claimants to 1,529. The overpayments resulted from changes in the tax roll that occurred between the time a bill was due and when it was paid, according to Kent.

According to a l ist

published online, the amounts available to be claimed range from around $11 to just under $60,000. Several companies and individuals were mentioned multiple times. Familiar names on the list included Chase Bank, Citi, DR Horton, Exxon Mobil, Fidelity National Title Co., the Outdoor Channel, the Riverside Community Health Foundation and Sport Chalet Inc.

The Festival ran from Thursday to Sunday with after-parties every night at local restaurants.

The opening-night film Saugatuck Fures held its world premier with local celebrity Judith Chapman playing a lead role. The producer and several actors were in attendance for a Q&A after the film. The after Party was at Hunters Nightclub. Friday had a feature film, Three in a Bed with a party later at Appetite. Some of the films started showing as early as 9:30 in the morning to accommodate movie goers to see all the films and shorts. Saturday night’s film was a musical, Waiting in the Wings, with the after party at the Purple Room. Full feature films and shorts were shown throughout each day to a nearly filled theatre.

Sunday night ended in a couple of short films with an after party at LuLus California Bistro.

The after parties are a big part of the festival as it gives movie goers, producers, directors and cast members a chance to get together and discuss the films and shorts and make new business partners and friends. Michael Green, Managing Director of Cinema Diverse and The Palm Springs Cultural Center served as Host of the event.
