This is a double page spread from NME featuring the rock band My Chemical Romance.
Having looked at previous dps’ from NME a common convention I can see is theres always a quote that is eye catching from
the interview large, made the centre of attention separate from the text. The background in this is black which lends itself to
the white and red as they stand out predominantly from the background.
The pictures used in the magazine are black and white following the cfolour scheme set by the text used. They are various
studio shot and live sessions indicating they are often doing both.
The right hand send is lent to both the article, a few pictures and a “lowdown” on the tracks from their album. This is an idea I
might use as it linguistically intrigues me because they are using words that are not really associated with either bands or rock.
DPS Analysis
This is a double page spread from NME featuring the artist Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine.
Having looked at previous dps’ from NME a common convention I can see is theres always a quote that is eye catching but
instead of having one from the interview they’ve decided to use lyrics from one of her most famous songs “You’ve got the
love”. The background in this is white, lending itself to the black text making it bold along with her outfit, and red as they
stand out predominantly from the background and is a reference to the article. It breaks the 3 colour rule by using blue text.
The picture used is that of florence who is sitting on the american flag, a reference to her having “america at her feet” and it
matches the colour pallette set by her red hair.
The right hand send is lent to solely the article which means that they want the reader to focus only on that when reading and
have her in short shorts on the other side to attract their attention to her “sex appeal” when seeing that.
DPS Analysis
This is a double page spread from Mojo featuring the last shadow puppets, an English indie rock band.
Having looked at previous dps’ from mojo a convention of theirs is that the band being interviewed have their pictures in
black and white. The background in this is dark, which means that the white and orange text used in the article stands out
against the background really well, it again sort of breaks the 3 colour rule by using different shades of orange but seeing as its
orange still, its probably forgivable.
The picture of the artists shows them as being somewhat despondent from the photo, looking away indicates he doesn’t really
care that his photos being taken, the background of brick gives it a feel of its being taken wherever not in a studio specifically
set up.
The interview is inbetween the two of them showing that they are both individuals, and theyre both from different bands but
have come together to do this interview
