We are truly blessed to be part of this special place. In the Bible Jesus and his followers welcomed the hospitality of those he met, like Zaccheus, and he also shared meals on beaches, in homes and in upper rooms, like when Jesus met with his Disciples for the Last Supper; a supper leading to an event that would change the world and answer the world’s need for restoration with God. Hospitality is a ministry in which we can share with others; Rom 12:13 says Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality” and 1 Peter 4:9 says “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling”. On hearing about Stage 3 learning about China in LIGW, one of our parents, Michael Jaggard asked if there was any way he could assist and if we would like him to cook for us? This initial invitation grew into an excursion for Stage 3 and Years 9 & 10 Food Technology. So, on Monday 5 June, Mr Michael Jaggard blessed us with his warmth, hospitality, knowledge and culinary skills at his restaurant Bilpin Afire. We travelled up together on the Kuyper bus to learn about Asian flavours and Asian cooking. Year 9 & 10 also joined us and they learnt about multicultural flavours with Chef Sam. We had an amazing afternoon which both classes really enjoyed. Here are some of their comments: “I really enjoyed watching Mr Jaggard cook the delicious pork. It had soya sauce, sesame seeds, coriander and honey on it. Then we ate it! I also enjoyed learning about the history of soya sauce. But my favourite part was eating chips and talking to my friends. I loved the experience we had at Bilpin Afire!” (Ashlyn) “Bilpin Afire was an awesome experience for all of us. We learned about different soya sauces and even got to sample some! Some of the sauces had chilli and some had ginger. Mr Jaggard then talked about the uses of soya sauce and the utensils the Chinese used. Then we got to see Mr Jaggard make pork……. All our food was delicious. Thank you Mr Jaggard for an amazing experience at Bilpin Afire!” (Natalie) On behalf of Stage 3 and Year 9 & 10 we would like to thank Mr Jaggard for donating his time, sharing his knowledge and sharing his hospitality with us. It was a really awesome experience! Liz Ansted Year 5/6 Teacher
