Zip Disk♥ The Zip drive is a medium-capacity

removable disk storage system that was introduced by Iomega in late 1994.

Mini CD♥ The Mini CD format CDs are reduced,

also known as compact disc pocket (Pocket-CD).

♥ CD single in a 80 mm disc. This format is used to distribute the simple in the same way as with the simple vinyl.

CD-RW♥ A CD-RW (Compact Disc-ReWritable) is a

rewritable optical disc. It was introduced in 1997, and was known as "CD-Writable" during development. It was preceded by the CD-MO, which was never commercially released.

3.5~inch Floppy disk♥ A floppy disk or a recording medium

storing data formed by a circular piece of magnetic material, thin, flexible (hence the name) enclosed in a plastic square or rectangular.

Tape Drive♥ A floppy diskette or a recording medium

storing data formed by a circular piece of magnetic material, thin, flexible (hence the name) enclosed in a plastic square or rectangular.

CD~R♥ A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a

variation of the Compact Disc invented by Philips and Sony. CD-R is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) optical medium, although the whole disk does not have to be entirely written in the same session.

Mini DVD♥ The mini-DVD is a disc of 80 mm in

diameter. In normal recording (standard DVD quality) supports 30 minutes of video or 1.4 GB of data (and the 2 layers, up to 2.92 GB).

DVD~RW Short for DVD-ReWritable, a re-

recordable DVD format similar to CD-RW or DVD+RW. The data on a DVD-RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times without damaging the medium.

FLASH MEMORIES

Memory Pen (USB MASS STORAGE) A flash memory card that plugs into the

computer's USB port. Small enough to hook onto a keychain, it emulates a small disk drive and allows data to be easily transferred from one machine to another.

SECURE DIGITAL Secure Digital (SD) is a non-volatile

memory card format developed by the SD Card Association (SDA) for use in portable devices. The SD technology is used by more than 400 brands across dozens of product categories and more than 8,000 models.

TransFlash SanDisk's earlier name for the microSD

card, the miniaturized version of the SD Card.

Multimedia card A flash memory card that provides

storage for cellphones, PDAs and other handheld devices. Introduced in 1997 with a 4MB capacity, the 32x24x1.4mm card weighs less than two grams. By 2005, storage increased to 2GB.

Compact flash A flash memory format introduced in

1994 by SanDisk Corporation, Milpitas, CA (www.sandisk.com). At 36.4 x 42.8 x 3.3 mm, CompactFlash (CF) cards are larger than other flash cards, but are popular storage in digital SLRs, which more easily accommodate their size than small point-and-shoot cameras.

Smart Media An ultra-compact flash memory format

developed by Toshiba and introduced in 1995. About the size of CompactFlash, but as thin as a credit card, SmartMedia cards were popular storage for digital cameras for a while, but capacities never reached beyond 128MB.
