GIRL’S NRL FINALS

Our senior girls NRL 7s team produced an outstanding performance at last week's State Titles in Sydney by making the semi-finals and finishing equal third in the state. The first match against Blairmount Public School began in difficult circumstances with Ashlee injuring her ankle in warm ups and April then injured in the opening minutes of the match leaving us two players short for the remainder of the match. Blairmount then made matters worse by hitting the front with an early try but Crescent Head were able to rally together and fight back to finish the match as a 12 - 12 draw, a fantastic effort against the eventual state champions. Crescent Head were able to get their full team back on deck for their next matches and produced strong performances and solid wins against both Thirroul PS and Berowra PS which qualified them for the semi-finals. The previous day's travel and the earlier games eventually took their toll in the semi-final against South Wagga PS with Crescent Head unable to come up with the win that would have put them into the state final. A huge congratulations goes to all players who can be very proud of their achievement and thank you to all parents and supporters who assisted in any way to contribute to this memorable day.

AURORA GIRLS ALL GEARED UP

Alannah, Sofia and Marley last week received their laptops, t-shirts and a whole bag full of Aurora College materials. The children are preparing for their program as part of an Opportunity Class Pilot Program. The OC program involves taking part in “virtual” lessons in a digital school where they will interact with their teachers and other students via cameras and microphones, in online materials and will move through a virtual school using a specially designed avatar. The school is even trialling robotic drones that will allow the students to move through the physical environments in Sydney with the use of a rolling drone. This program is designed to bring these programs, designed for gifted students, to students in rural and remote settings.

NORTH COAST DEBATING by Luella Robinson

On Friday, I travelled to Toormina Public School to compete against the top 23 debaters from Taree to the border for a place in the North Coast debating team. Over the day, we had to prepare for two debates and complete a general knowledge quiz. Even though we were only allowed half an hour to prepare, everyone was able to come up with strong arguments for the topic. Although I narrowly missed out on a spot on the North Coast debating team, it was a fantastic day and I got to meet some great students from the region.
