    Turn Off Inflammationand prevent autoimmunity

Immune system is our defense sys-

tem and protects us from day to day

threats such as infections and even

helps us fight serious cancers. Un-

    fortunately, in some cases immune

system can turn against our own

body. It will be fair to say that autoim-

    munity is hyperactive immune re-

sponse, which I call ADHD of our

immune system. It is like a tsunami

    of cytokines spreading across our

    body, which target internal tissues

and organs. This process leads to

cellular and DNA damage leading to joint damage or organ failure.

It has many ways to present such as inflamed joints, skin rashes, ane-

mia, fever and fatigue. Research studies suggest intense mental,

physical stress, lack of sleep, processed food allergens and chronic

infections are called second hit phenomenon; meaning in geneti-

cally predisposed individuals these triggers will precipitate autoim-

mune diseases. Identifying and neutralizing environmental and nu-

tritional allergies and lowering antigenic load can help down regu-

late inflammation and risk of autoimmunity.

Processed foods and chemical are challenging our immune cells by

presenting as heavy antigenic load to our intestinal immune sys-

tem. Processed food also change the healthy balance of bowel flora

(bacteria) leading to leaky gut. This microbial imbalance leads to

increase free radical formation and inflammation of joints.

Integrative health interventions focus on reducing antigenic triggers,

balancing inflammatory mediators and restoring healthy flora in the

gut. Nutritional intervention include Mediterranean diet rich in fresh

fruits, vegetables, nuts, and extra virgin olive oil can increase omega

3 fatty acid in our body. Wild-water salmon, mackerel and sardines

are rich in omega 3FA. Avocados and flaxseeds are plant based

    sources.

Omega-3 fatty acids to reduce inflammatory mediators like EPA and

    DHA 2-3 g a day, GLA 1.5-3 g/day; Conjugated linoleic acid does 2-

3 g daily. Antioxidants help reduce free oxygen radical damage. Vita-

min E8 100 units as mixed tocopherols, Selenium 400 mcg daily,

Calcium 1000-1200 mg daily, Magnesium 400-750 mg daily, Vita-

min D 2000 international units daily. Botanicals and probiotics help

maintain healthy gut flora and reduce pain. Ginger 1 g 2-3 times a

day, Turmeric 500 mg to 1000 mg 2-3 times helps reduce inflam-

    mation.

You should get personalized testing for food allergies and neurotrans-

mitter evaluation to gauge your inflammation, autoimmunity and

hormonal balance which are offered to all of our patients. Healthy

lifestyle and regular exercise helps reduce pain and improve muscle

strength. Yoga, Pilates, Tai-chi with stretching exercises prevent

stress. Remember, we have many tools to turn off inflammation in

your body, lets start today....you feel energized, youthful and pain free.

    Rolly BrownsTai Chi Path...part two

In 1981, transplanted from San Francisco to Philadelphia, I began

studying with Maggie Newman, a senior student of the late Grand-

master Cheng Man-Ching, who came down from NYC once a week

to teach. It was at this point that I took an oath, broken only 10 times in

the ensuing 33 years, never to miss a day of Tai Chi. Professor Chengs

lineage made the most sense to me in terms of what real Tai Chi should

embody, and Maggie was a wonderful teacher, but, before I got be-

yond learning the form, I was off to Australia in search of romance and

    adventure.

In Sydney, after checking out several disappointing Chinese teach-

ers, I visited the class of Erle Montaigue, a stocky, fairhaired character

who looked like the former rock star, wrestler, and bouncer that he

was. After five minutes, I knew he

was a true master, from a pure lin-

eage. On Tai Chi, Erle (see pic) was

opinionated to the point of being

    outrageous, but always with a

twinkle in his eye. Mostly, he was a

    generous teacher, and, after impart-

ing the Yang Family long form in a

couple months of daily classes, he

welcomed me into the mysteries of

the martial side of Tai Chi, starting

with Push Hands, the exercise for

    developing martial sensitivity,

which Id spent seven years covet-

ing. For several weeks, a small group would meet at 5 a.m., in a little

park on beautiful Elizabeth Bay, walking through two hours of very

slow Tai Chi. It was grueling, exhausting, strengthening, and nour-

ishing, all at once. Dawn happened, and the world would wake up in

slow motion as our legs ached and we struggled to stay relaxed. To

this day, its one of my fondest memories of Tai Chi training.

On Sundays, wed meet there for Push Hands, and I was initiated into

the mysteries of sensing and interpreting energy, neutralizing force,

and developing root. Concepts of hardness and softness became

sensory experiences rather than verses read in old texts. Erle and I

forged a friendship that endured until his untimely passing in 2011.

Then, my world spun again, and circumstance brought me back to

Philadelphia, to find my true teacher in Grandmaster William C.C.

Chen...but thats a story for next time. (see display ad on page 40)

    Helping ChildrenManage Their Emotions

Helping children understand and manage their feelings appro-

priately is hard work and can sometimes lead parents to feeling

rejected, frustrated, or inadequate. Gaining more awareness of

your own emotional responses as a parent can help you be the

most effective teacher for your child. By paying attention to your

body sensations, impulses and perceptions, the impact your feel-

ings have on your child can become clearer.

Heres a good way to ease into this process: Imagine that you are a

glass pitcher, and all of the thoughts and feelings contained inside

you are the lemonade you will serve your kids on a hot day. Maybe

youre worried about your job or finances, and youre excited about

an upcoming event. Take a few minutes to write out everything you

hold inside your pitcher. Describe in detail where you feel tension in

your body. Maybe your shoulders are tense, your breathing is shal-

low, or perhaps theres a ball of fire in your belly.

Read over your list. What do you notice? Is your list a balance of joy

and challenges? What feelings arise when you read your list? Now,

imagine your children as glasses that need to be filled by your pitcher.

Imagine the lemonade pouring right into them. You may try every-

thing to prevent an ice cube or a lemon seed from falling into their

glasses, but sometimes you just cant prevent it and they slip through

despite your best efforts. Or, you may pour perfectly, but your child is

intuitive; she knows there was ice in the pitcher, and she doesnt want

a drink that touched the ice because it is too cold for her teeth. Think

about your list and the mix of thoughts and feelings you unwittingly

    pour into your children.

Over the next week, continue observing and take note of how these

thoughts and feelings resonate in your body. Notice the words and

actions filling your childs glass. Think about what your behavior

teaches them and how this may impact their feelings and behavior.

These simple acts of awareness are powerful first steps toward help-

ing your children manage their own emotions.

    The Herbal TreatmentOf Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is one of the most common sleep disturbance problems

in America. It ruins the sleep of an estimated 40 million Americans on

    a regular basis.

As we fall asleep, we move

    from stage one (drowsi-

    ness) into stage two where

    muscular activity is inhib-

    ited (blocked). It is called

    reduction of muscle to-

nus. This is a function that

    occurs primarily to keep the

    dreamer from physically

acting out the movements of their dreams that will occur in REM sleep.

Unfortunately, as we age, the inhibition of skeletal muscles causes

un-intentional reduction in the signal to the diaphragm muscle.

When in stage two sleep, our breathing becomes shallower and shal-

lower due to insufficient signal strength to the diaphragmatic muscles.

In sleep apnea sufferers, breathing will stop completely.

When the carbon dioxide level gets high enough, the brain intervenes

and causes the body to make a large and immediate inhalation. This

causes a large pressure differential in the pharynx and literally sucks

the sagging-soft palate into the airway. This obstructs the flow and

causes a loud SNORT disturbing sleep or awakening the subject.

Upon awakening or returning to stage 1 sleep, the reduction of muscle

tonus for entry into stage two sleep is released and respiration begins

again in a somewhat normal manner. Then the cycle repeats again.

The problem is caused by the reduction in signal from your brain that

reaches your diaphragm. Shortly after your breathing stops, you take

a rapid inhalation and this sucks the soft palate into the airway with a

snort; disturbing your sleep. The appropriate intervention is to en-

hance the communication from your brain to your diaphragm so that

you breathe deeply and steadily throughout the night.

Lobellia acting as a respiratory stimulant, does just that. It has been

used for thousands of years to treat respiratory conditions. This herb

will actually increase the level of respiration sufficiently so that your

breathing does not stop during muscular inhibition. It will maintain

deep steady breathing through the stage 2 sleep period.

Thyme actually improves the ability of the lungs to exchanges CO2

for oxygen. To round out the combination, Chamomile aids the sub-

ject in relaxing and Cramp Bark helps the upper trapezius muscles to

    relax supporting better nerve transmission.

This bouquet of herbs enhances respiration, relaxes muscles that re-

strict nervous flow and increases drowsiness. It represents a wholistic

natural solution to sleep apnea. It is non-habit forming and no-precon-

ditioning is required. Whats more, it addresses the cause of the problem

without drugs, machines or surgery. (see display ad on page 11)

Good DigestionIn my Family Practice I focus on natural health options for any health

challenge. One of the most common

presentations is poor digestion given the

diagnosis of Irritable bowel syndrome or

    spastic colon.

My approach is to help them define

where their problem is located. Indiges-

tion is such a broad term and can imply

anything form irritation of mouth, belch-

ing or burping, heartburn, bloating, gas,

diarrhea, or constipation or any and of

    all of the above.

Is he looking to keep things somewhat casual? Then hes not in a

position or doesnt want to offer you a serious committed relationship.

Some women, when faced with this situation think that if they give it

more time and are patient enough, the man will eventually come

around. But it really doesnt work that way. Dont Settle. Settling is one

of the most destructive diseases present in relationships as we know

    them.

Talk to him calmly and find out whether or not the two of you are on

the same page. Be clear. Let him know that, youre looking for some-

one to share your life with, and if hes not looking for the same thing

then youre not a match. Hes either marriage material or, hes not.

Men can also have this problem, with a woman dating him for the

wrong reasons. You have to be prepared to walk away when you find

out he or she doesnt want what you want. This is a good thing. Now,

you can stop wasting your time in this going nowhere relationship

and put your energies toward finding Mr. or Mrs. Right!

    Hormone Replacement?Consider your options

Many women are looking for an-

    swers for their menopausal symp-

    toms. Though some women notice

no symptoms at all, others notice

    hot flashes, sleeplessness, irregu-

lar cycles, foggy thinking, and more.

    As women consider options to

    minimize symptoms, hormone re-

    placement is the most common

    option considered.

Now, as we are seeing the side ef-

    fects of certain hormone treat-

ments, many clinicians are switching from equine preparations

(Premarin, short for pregnant mares urine) to human laboratory-

made forms, called bioidentical forms. These still can have side ef-

fects, which are lessened if prescribed appropriately. Many women

feel better on hormone therapy, but what if you could feel better with-

out it, by supporting your own natural production of hormones? That

way, instead of taking bioidentical hormones, youre on Susan-iden-

tical or Ruth-identical. You cant have side effects with those!

Some women who see a clinician for menopausal symptoms may

never have had normal hormone balance, and, in fact, women with

From a natural point of view, indigestion can be summarized to be

caused by three major factors. 1. Inability to digest certain foods 2. Food

    allergy 3. Food sensitivity

We are born with the ability to digest many things by our bodys pro-

duction of enzymes, but sometimes as we age the enzyme produc-

tion decreases. Milk is a classic example that most children can digest

but many loose that ability as a teenager. Adding the enzyme lactase,

found in Lactaid milk and other products, virtually will eliminate

symptoms in most patients. Every type of food has a type of enzyme

that will aid its digestion. These enzymes can be generalized into three

categories; Carbohydrases, like Lactase, Lipases, for fat digestion and

Proteases for protein digestion. Enzymes are commonly found in any

live food. However, once a food is cooked most of the enzymes have

    been destroyed.

Probiotics, or friendly bacteria help digest contents of our food that

we cannot. Dysbiosis is the term used for unusual bacterial, or yeast

in our intestinal tract. Antibiotics kill the beneficial bacteria causing

an opportunistic infection. Probiotic supplements are readily avail-

able but are also commonly found in our diet. Specialized labs that

can measure the good and bad bacteria can perform a stool analysis.

Food allergies are possible with any food. Allergy to a food can cause

an immediate as in peanut allergies in children, or chronic, as in Ce-

liac disease. Food rotation and elimination diets can be a helpful tool

for patients to use on their own to figure out which foods they react to,

or food allergy testing can easily be performed through blood testing.

Food sensitivities are the most challenging to diagnose. These foods

cause inflammation. Food sensitivities can be determined with elimi-

nation and rotation diets or with ALCAT testing.

Digestive issues have many cultural and social manifestations and

can change life course due to symptoms or even fear of potential symp-

toms. Finding and understanding the cause of ones symptoms is the first

step in creating good digestion. (see display ad on page 11)

Are you stayingin a nowhere relationship?

If youre single and dont want to be, youre probably tired of trying to

figure out why. Ive spoken with women and men who stayed in long

term relationships far longer than they should. Whether its 12 months

5 or 10 years, they stayed in dead-end relationships month after

month even though it became clear their relationship wasnt going

anywhere. You know when the relationship is not progressing.

If youre looking for marriage and possibly children and he or she

isnt, the earlier you end it and move on the bet-

ter. You should free yourself so you can find a more

    compatible partner. You

    can tell, even in the

    first few months if

    youre falling in love

    and are open-mind

    toward a future to-

    gether.

more irregular or symptomatic cycles are more likely to have meno-

pausal symptoms. Perhaps they never had regular cycles, or always

had pain or headaches with their cycles. Hormone replacement never

restores normal balance; it merely covers it up. Many clinicians have

found that natural modalities work quickly at this time. One favorite is

homeopathy. These dilute natural medicines have no side effects

and no contraindications, and are safe for people of all ages. They are

prescribed on the unique experience of the women.

    Lets take a few examples:

Sulphur: Women who benefit from this homeopathic remedy may feel

tired or chilly after a hot flash and will fan themselves. They tend to have

memory issues and an empty feeling in the stomach in late morning.

Sepia: Women who do well on this remedy may feel that a heat is rising

from the abdomen up to the head. They may feel like hot water is poured

    over the head.

Cimicifuga: Women may have heat followed by abdominal sweat, with

redness in the face. They want to get out to fresh air yet are generally chilly.

There are hundreds of homeopathic remedies, but above are listed some

of the most common ones. Your homeopath can find the one that has

    your name on it.

Menopause is a stage of maturation of the woman, where she may find the

wisdom and even spirituality that evolves for her at this time. With home-

opathy, she can enjoy this time symptom-free.

    Festival,Community, Family

My husband and I have been going to music festivals for about 15

years. Though we are Pagans, prior to 2008 we had never attended

a Pagan festival. That spring we heard about Free Spirit Gathering

and were interested in attending. Unfortunately, the dates coincided

with a major music festival that we had already purchased tickets for.

This would be our 3rd trip to

the giant music festival and we

were exited that we had been

able to get VIP tickets. We re-

    signed ourselves to attending

    FSG the following year. When

we went to the Free Spirit

    Gathering website to find the

dates for the next year, we saw

    the list of workshops and

    classes being offered that year

and decided to sell our VIP

    music festival tickets in favor

of attending FSG. It may seem ridiculous to ditch an internationally

famous music festival with 80,000 people for a small regional pagan fes-

tival with between 300 - 400 attendees but that is exactly what we did.

Our first experience was a joy from start to finish. The festival staff was

fantastic and really made us feel at home. We immediately fell in love

with the sitea campground with a small lake, and miles of trails

through the woods. They even had a labyrinth. We attended every

workshop that we could and found all of the presenters to be knowl-

edgeable and engaging. The public rituals were excellent and well

attended. At night there were musical performances and all night

bonfires by the lake with fantastic drummers that kept the beat going

and inspired many to dance the night through. There were a wide

variety of workshops and even an entire series specifically for chil-

    dren of various ages.

We made many, many friends that year, some from as far away as

Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, and Minneapolis, MN who we look for-

ward to seeing year after year. We have never regretted our original

decision to go to FSG rather than the music festival; at FSG we have

found friends and family of choice who have enriched our lives in so

very many ways. We have since attended a couple of other Pagan

festivals but FSG will always be our festival of choice.

The 30th Free Spirit Gathering will be held June 16th - 21st 2015 at Camp

Ramblewood in Darlington, MD. For more information or to register please

Organic Lawn CareWhat you need to know

When choosing a lawn care provider many

people have questions: Are the products safe for

my children and my pets? Are they having a

negative effect on our environment? Is the com-

pany I am looking to hire truly organic? Does

organic lawn care actually work? Unfortu-

nately getting clear answers on these ques-

    tions isnt always easy.

Since theres currently no regulation, lawn

care companies can simply make up any

kind of Organic or Safe self designation.

For example: words like Organic Based, Natu-

ral, and Environmentally Safe are just a few keywords that are of-

ten far from the truth. What is important for you to know is that 100%

organic lawn care is knowledge based. An organic lawn care profes-

sional must understand soil biology, soil chemistry and have an un-

derstanding that weeds are a messenger telling us what is wrong with

your soil. Only a true Organic Land Care professional can help bring

your soil back to life thus creating a beautiful lawn. Chemical lawn treat-

ments have an adverse effect on your soil. Organic fertilizers revitalize the

soil, feed the grass and are less likely to leach. Your soil will become a

more fertile environment for your lawn and consequently over time less

water is needed to maintain a lush green lawn.

I am proud to say that Organics have come a long way in the last

decade. The products are better and more reasonably priced. Or-

ganic lawn care is now competitive with the chemical lawn care in-

dustry in both cost and results. Two simple and inexpensive soil tests

can tell your lawn care professional what may be wrong with your

Although the consequence of mouth breathing and improper tongue

posture can cause real dental issues, a more serious situation may be

at the heart of the aforementioned condition. As was mentioned ear-

lier, the factor responsible for mouth breathing is enlarged tonsils and/

or adenoids. The resultant altered breathing mechanics may lead to

sleep-related breathing disorders and even sleep apnea. Mouth breath-

ing, excessive sleepiness, lethargy and or snoring are all indications that

a child should be evaluated by ENTs and pediatric sleep specialists.

If adenoid tissues(includes the tonsils) are responsible for the

breathing issues, there are several methods to address this situation.

With many children now days sensitive and allergic to myriads of

allergens, identifying and removing the causative allergens may

shrink the adenoid tissues. Nasal sprays and rinses may also reduce

the enlarged tissues. The last resort is surgery to remove the adenoids

and or tonsils. (see display ad on page 19)

    What isThe Andara Genesis spiral?

The Andara Genesis spiral is a meditation portal made entirely of

Andara crystal stones. The Andara crystals, found in the High Sierra

mountains of Northern California, are glass-like crystals of exceptional

beauty and power. The Andara Genesis Spiral is the largest number

of these stones to gather on the East Coast. When the Andaras are ar-

ranged on a table, in the sacred geometric form of a spiral, their col-

lective energy is expanded. The Spiral is created to facilitate energy

flow and to help raise the vibration of those who sit close to it. The

Andaras themselves work with the energy of our personal intention.

When we come to sit with The Spiral , we are asked to come with a

clear intention for ourselves and for the world as a whole. The Spiral

itself spins the energy of the Andaras outward carrying our inten-

tions, to merge with all the grid space, with all the Universal energy,

thus allowing for creation to manifest into form within the world.

The Andaras are also a group of highly evolved Beings of Light.

What follows is what The Andaras themselves have to say

    about the Genesis Spiral:

    Each Soul who comes

    and sits with the Spiral

    has an opportunity to be-

    come a new creation.

    We, The Andaras, will

    awaken you to your full-

    est and even more full

    potential. We will speak

    to all the people that

come to sit with us. Some to their ears, some to their hearts and some

to their souls. ( not audible ie: I didnt feel anything )

Everyone who sits with us will be uplifted, will be shifted, will be trans-

    formed.

The Genesis Spiral is not a labyrinth, rather we are an act of creation

and re-creation. We are a sitting rather than a walking meditation. We

are ourselves and we are Love. continued on page 25.

soil and allow them to create a customized approach for your lawn.

So how can you be sure you are getting truly organic lawn care? Ask

the questions. Ask them if they will be doing a soil test, ask for the plan,

and ask what products they are using and if they are approved by the

    Organic Material Review Institute.

At Fredericks Organic lawn care we use only OMRI (Organic Mate-

rial Review Institute) listed fertilizers. Without that OMRI stamp on a

bag of fertilizer it is not truly organic. Please feel free to contact us for

Tonsils, Tongue, TeethSeveral months ago a patient asked me to look at her five year-old son.

She was concerned that her son had many gaps between his teeth.

Shouldnt his teeth be lined up closer together? she wondered. Her

concerns were understandable since we as a society place such im-

portance on appearance even in young children. I explained to her

that spacing between the baby teeth are perfectly normal and prefer-

able. The reason for this is that the spacing represents normal jaw devel-

opment and bodes well for the alignment of adult teeth to follow.

So what is the concern for a child with

tight baby teeth or crowded teeth? In

absence of a thumb or finger sucking

habit the child may be exhibiting the

effects of mouth breathing or im-

proper tongue posture. Both of these

conditions can be due to breathing

issues caused by enlarged tonsils or

    adenoids. Enlarged adenoids and or

    tonsils prevent normal breathing

through the nose. The child instead

breathes through the mouth and pre-

vents the normal positioning of the

tongue at rest, swallowing and speak-

ing. The tongue in this situation is placed more forward and the lower jaw

is opened more to allow air to reach the throat. Also when swallowing, the

tongue fails to push up against the palate and causes a narrowing of the

upper jaw. This situation also creates an insufficient swallow and often

leaves food residue lingering in the mouth. My daughter had this prob-

lem long before I became a dentist, and I remember chiding her often to

swallow her food better. Little did I know

As this situation of mouth breathing and associated improper tongue

posture continues, the baby teeth in the young child starts to incline

inward as the pressures from the muscles and tissues of the lips and

cheek overcome the resistance that should be provided by the

tongue. The result is the elimination of the proper spacing between

the teeth and the eventual crowding of the baby teeth and possible

abnormal jaw development. This is one of the more common rea-

sons for complex orthodontic treatments to be performed in young

    children and adolescents.

    Concussion:Neurofeedback Beats Head Injury

Annette (not her real name) was happily looking forward to her se-

nior year and graduate school. She was broadsided on a warm sunny

afternoon by a car with an inattentive driver running a red light. The

impact threw Annettes vehicle head-on into a tree. Although she

believed she sustained only a broken nose from hitting the steering

wheel, she had no idea what a curve this experience had thrown to

her life for the next two years.

Annette began neurofeedback last October. At the time of her referral

to our office, she still had major difficulty with falling asleep and stay-

ing asleep for even a few hours at a time, paying attention or concen-

trating on anything more than a few minutes, and following conver-

sations with others. She often found herself crying spontaneously or

losing her temper during the day for no reason. The routine of a part-

time retail sales job was nearly impossible. Headaches were a daily

occurrence. Memory was helped somewhat by several notepads in

her purse and post-it notes all over her home, including even remind-

ers for doing the basic self-help tasks of a daily hygiene routine such

as brushing her teeth. She was stuck!

In this condition, Annette was not on her way to graduate school. In

fact, her legal counsel and the medical community were preparing

her to accept a future of limited func-

tional skills and medication to help

manage her new disability. She was

struggling with the reality of the sud-

den change in her life goals from this

one event. Annette was in both a men-

    tal and emotional quandry.

    Initially, a quantitative electroen-

    cephalogram (qEEG) indicated a

change in volume of several of her

brain waves in a generalized pattern

across her brain. There was too much

of slow and fast waves, and not enough of the calm waves that would

help her process information. Her brain was racing and slowing at

the same time, causing a very confused pattern. All of her cognitive

    skills were in a spin.

After a few weeks of neurofeedback, Annettes sleep began to nor-

malize and she was feeling rested afterwards. Gradually she relied

less on her notes, was smiling more, and her attention span was im-

proving at her part time job and at home.

Neurofeedback is an effective remedy for head injuries and restoring

normal life functioning. Interested individuals may contact our of-

fice at www.achievewell.net (see display ad on page 24)

Mens Pelvic HealthYes, men do have pelvic health issues too. Sadly, there has been a

lack of awareness and attention of mens pelvic health issues. Often

their conditions go untreated or are inaccurately diagnosed. At Cen-

tral Bucks Physical Therapy, LLC (CBPT) we see a wide range of

diagnoses of male pelvic health issues.

Often men who have pain in their pelvic region are diagnosed with

    chronic prostatitis. Anti-biotics are the

treatment of choice for infection and

symptoms will improve for a few weeks.

The pain relievers in the antibiotic help

with the pain initially, then after the

course of the antibiotic the symptoms

may return. This could indicate that

    something else possibly pelvic floor

muscle spasm may be causing pain.

Pain in the rectal area can be a result of

muscles that have tightened from a long

history of heavy work or sports, which

    shorten the hamstring muscles. The

hamstrings have fascial connections to the muscles of the rectal region.

Some men have undergone prostate surgery without a full resolution

of urinary incontinence. The muscles involved in controlling the flow

of urine are the pelvic floor muscles. As Physical Therapist specializ-

ing in pelvic health conditions we can help you.

Other surgeries such as hernia repairs or athletic pubalgia (sports

hernia) can lead to decreased mobility of nerve and fascial tissue

creating referred pain into the pelvis and genitals. Specific manual

techniques are available to help with this pain. These restrictions may

cause pain with activities such as sitting, lifting, during intercourse or

    after intercourse.

Here is a list of symptoms often seen in men with pelvic health issues:

    - Urinary or Fecal Incontinence/Retention

    - Urinary Urgency/Frequency

    - Painful Urination

    - Constipation

    - Bowel issues related to conditions such as IBS or Crohns Disease

    - Genital Pain

    - Genital Pain related to sexual activities

    - Lumbar and/or Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain

    - Coccyx (tailbone) pain

    - Sensation of a golf ball in the rectum

    - Abdominal/groin/hip pain

    - Change in pelvic region health after surgery
