lations. When we transform lawn and non-native plantings to native ecosys-

tems, we open our lives to a world teeming with life, vibrance, and beauty.

Consider this:

NATIVE PLANTS require virtually no soil amendments, fertilizers, or

additional watering once established.

ORNAMENTAL CULTIVARS of tough native plants run the gamut of

color, texture, size, and form. There is much to choose from whether

addressing wet, dry, shade, or full sun areas.

Tired of constant mowing? Converting vast areas of lawn to flowering meadow

is a wonderful way to transform maintenance intensive turf into very low

maintenance, high wildlife value terrain. Wildflower meadows also offer up

year long displays of color, texture, and movement. The sound of rustling

grasses, buzzing pollinators, and flitting birds is relaxing, unlike the sound of

mowers or the silence of ecologically barren lawn.

We can all bring nature back into our lives. Discovering and nurturing the

delicate web of life is a wonderful way to bring ourselves peace and con-

nectedness to our environment.

To learn more about native and organic gardening, visit our web site at

vanderlelylandscaping.com or call Vanderlely Landscaping at 267-377-5947.

There are infinite ways we can help you transform your property into a beautiful,

natural, and life-supporting oasis. Happy spring! (See display ad on page 22)

Do I have a DRA? What Now?

(Diastasis RectiAbdominis)Belly After Baby - An Outreach Program for Postpartum Women:

Sometimes in an effort to get rid of the “baby bump”, women often want to

get back to the gym and start working out again. Physical activity is good and

recommended, however, safe exercise habits is essential. Start building

physical activity into your schedule, even though there does not seem like

there is enough time in the day to do everything. Take a walk with the baby in

the stroller, with your dog, or with a friend! Begin to learn how to correctly

engage your abdominal muscles and support this region as your body re-

covers from pregnancy.

After childbirth, correct posture, body mechanics, and movement patterns

is essential. Throughout the day, it is important to perform activities in a way

that protects and prevents excessive pressure or stress within the abdomi-

nal region. It is recommended that initially women avoid aggressive abdomi-

nal workouts such as plank exercises, full sit ups, intense Pilates

classes or “ab” classes (unless working with a therapist

or professional trained to work with women during

and after pregnancy). These activities may cause

or worsen a Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA)

and/or pain in the abdominal region if per-

formed incorrectly or performed in a way that

increases stress and pressure within the

abdomen prior to regaining good muscular

control and stability.

Creating SmoothTransitions

Graduation from high school and transitioning to adulthood is stressful for

teens. For teens with Invisible Challenges™ such as Asperger’s, behavioral

disorders or any other condition that employs an IEP to assist them with their

educational goals, it is overwhelming. The state of Pennsylvania has a State

Performance Plan (SPP) for

students with an IEP that include

20 Indicators to be achieved. In-

dicator 13 focuses on improv-

ing transition services for these

students by evaluating their

strengths, preferences and in-

terests.

Students unprepared to meet

these goals require additional

assistance. Teamwork Wins, a

nonprofit foundation in Pennsburg, offers an Indicator 13 summer camp to

help them prepare to meet the goals of Indicator 13 by assisting them with

their unique FTC method. This camp fills in a gap when evaluations done by

school districts identify areas of weakness. Support from the schools along

with Indicator 13 Camp, an Extended School Year Program, allows students the

best chance possible to make their transition from school to the “real” world.

To have a community where all of our citizens have an opportunity to partici-

pate and contribute, programs like the Indicator 13 Camp are vital in support-

ing our schools so that each student can have the best possible outcome as

they leave the cocoon of school and fly into our communities. Teamwork

Wins is not only a nonprofit foundation but a philosophy as well. Their “team-

ing up” with our schools benefit the students they help and our community

as a whole. (See display ad on page 24)

Gardens forBeauty and Life

As spring begins to blink awake from a cold winter slumber, the thought of

spending more time outdoors begins to rustle from within.

What are the things we can do this year to make our time outdoors at home

more relaxing, peaceful, and enjoyable? For some of us, a stone patio, shade

pergola, kitchen garden, or privacy screening may be in our thoughts. One

thing to consider is that we can

greatly improve the ecology as well

as aesthetic appeal of our prop-

erties if we are mindful of some

important concepts.

In creating or expanding gardens,

we can radically improve how our

plants serve wildlife by simply

choosing from an enormous pal-

ate of attractive and tough native

plants. Native plants are the foun-

dation of healthy ecosystems. Without native grasses and flowers, insects

and birds have little to feed on. Since 97% of North American terrestrial birds

rely on insects to raise their young, garden biodiversity is critical to bird popu-

for women in our region. Belly After Baby was developed to provide new

mothers with a 15-20 minute, no-cost, DRA (Diastasis Rectus Abdominis)

screening and brief education session. Simple activities are introduced

to retrain and strengthen deep abdominal muscles. Exercise precautions,

proper body mechanics and posture are discussed. All participants are

given baseline measurements of the distance between the rectus

abdominis muscles (performed with a tape measure) to compare and to

guide recommendations. Follow up with an appropriate health care pro-

vider is recommended if a DRA and/or other health care concerns are

suspected. Research has found that DRA and other health care concerns

can improve with education and specific exercise.

a women’s health physical therapist, give us a call at 215-345-3260. (See

A Message to AllWho Suffer

This article might change your life. Yes, that is a bold statement, and the world

is full of similar claims. But I assure you this is real. The transformations I have

witnessed in patients with chronic health or pain issues has put to rest any

skepticism I once had. Furthermore, it is supported by research published in

medical journals, by anatomical fact and an increasing number of successful

clinical cases. So please, briefly suspend skepticism and contemplate the

facts and the evidence. What you will discover is that LifeAligned Upper Cer-

vical-specific treatment might very well change your life.

In medical terms the neck is referred to as the “cervical spine. The “upper

cervical” region is where the base of the skull joins with the top of the neck

to become the “craniocervical junction” (CCJ). Biomechanically it is where

the task of balancing your 10 pound head atop your body receives its main

feedback, and it is where blood vessels carry energy into, and metabolic wastes

out of, the brain. Neurologically this is where your brain stem transitions to be-

come the spinal cord, ultimately branching out to every part of the body.

Let’s talk about that neurology. When you were in the womb, the very first

part of your body to develop after conception - the one which communi-

cated with and coordinated all the others parts that followed - was your cen-

tral nervous system (CNS). Ultimately the CNS developed into your brain,

brain stem, and spinal cord. To this day, as you read these words, it is still your

central nervous system coordinating how you move, see, hear, think, breathe,

digest, feel pain, etc.

With that in mind, do you think a misalignment of the CCJ might cause pain, or

tremors, or health issues in other parts of the body? Can you envision how

head misalignment could cause chronic low back pain through postural dis-

tortion? What about headaches, or dizziness, or facial pain, or fibromyalgia,

or “brain fog?” Could your problem be a misaligned head?

LifeAligned Upper Cervical

treatment is the precise analy-

sis and correction of CCJ align-

ment and, by extension,

health of your nervous sys-

tem, musculoskeletal

system…in fact all the systems

and organs in the human body.

It is safe, gentle, and does not require any twisting or “cracking” of the neck.

LifeAligned is not traditional chiropractic treatment. Come talk with us to see

if LifeAligned might change your life. (See display ad on page 4)

Mickey MagicKeeper of the Andara

Bringing High Energy Andara Crystals to Doylestown

Mickey Magic, Keeper of the Andara, will be coming to Doylestown, April 29

to May 2, for a very special weekend including meditation, workshop and

healing. Mickey has been designated as “the official steward” of authentic

Andara Crystals by Lady Nellie, the Choctaw medicine woman who owned

the land on which the Andara were found. Because of his friendship with

Nellie, Mickey had access to thousands of Andara and has a private collection

of rare stones that seldom travel from California. Mickey felt called to bring a

sampling of these stones to the East Coast so that people may benefit from

their unique high vibrational frequencies.

The weekend begins Friday, April 29 with an evening with Mickey at Pebble

Hill Church. On Saturday, April, 30, Mickey will facilitate a workshop from 10-

4 at Pebble Hill Church. Here he will give further insights into the history and

properties of Andara and his experiences with them. As part of the work-

shop, participants will have access to these one-of-a-kind Andara from

Mickey’s personal collection for Laying on of

stones (laying stones directly on the body)

gridding, creating a vortex and more.

Mickey, will share his story of his near death

experience and how three Angels commu-

nicated that his contract was not up and he

had to go back. He experienced spontane-

ous physical healing and his life path even-

tually lead him to Lady Nellie and the Andara.

Mickey has worked and studied with many

healers including Carolyn Myss, Ph.D. and is

featured in her book Sacred Contracts.

The energy and vibration from these special Amazing Andara in combination

with Mickey’s personal energy is an experience not to be missed. In addition,

a limited number of private healing sessions with Mickey are offered Sunday,

May 1 and Monday, May 2, by appointment only.

Are you an emotional eater

or addicted to food?In 2013 the University of Connecticut released a study exposing the fact that

Oreo cookies are more addictive than Morphine or Cocaine. The truth of the

matter is that food companies have developed many ways to manipulate our

brain chemistry and create dependence on their products. Right now there

are medical doctors who have graduated from prestigious medical schools

like Harvard who could possibly be curing Parkinsons disease. Instead these

doctors are working in some lab trying to get you to eat 11 cookies instead of

8. After all, the quicker you empty that bag of

chips the more you will need to buy. Design-

ing food to devourer like cheese balls and

learning which shape filled with air, fat, sugar

and more will bypass your brain signals to avoid

triggering an I am full feeling is the new food

science. Watch how fast you can eat an entire

bag of cookies before your brain says “whoa!

I’m full”! Try eating even half that amount in al-

monds and your appetite will respond appro-

priately by saying “I think you’ve had enough.”

Losing weight these days is very difficult for this very reason. Have you ever

woke up one morning sick and tired of being sick and tired? Fed up with the

weight you have gained, you diet on sheer willpower. Eventually though you

put it all back on. You will never be able to lose weight and keep it off until you

reset your brain chemistry and erase the addictions created by food compa-

nies. I have over 15 years’ experience helping food cravers end this cycle.

BY using Auriculotherapy and Torque Release Technique together we can

restart your brains hard drive and remind your body how to make your own

natural feel good chemicals. Research has shown an unprecedented 100%

success rate with addiction of all kinds using Auriculotherapy and Torque

Release Technique. My program also combines Designed Clinical Nutrition

and the ROM Fast Exercise 8 minute workout to help you break the chains of

food dependency and emotional eating. If you have any questions about

food craving and any other type of addictions please call my office today for

a Free consultation. Your brain has been tricked. Together we can free you

Natural Living Storecomes to Peddler’s Village

Living naturally should come easy for all of us. Not really. Not in today’s world.

Greenology founder Ken and Fritzie agree. It took them 3 years to translate

the passion, reason, and emotion that begun Greenology Organic Living. Ken

explains “We want to promote the way our grandparents used to live”. Natu-

ral living is based on understanding how our ancestors have lived using natu-

ral elements to solve simple everyday problems and finding a way to adapt it

to our modern life. Unfortunately, in today’s world of technological advance-

ments, many experiments have left the labs and entered our homes expos-

ing our family to many chemicals we don’t understand.

Walking in Greenology, you will be greeted by an amazing display of “Floating

Gardens”. These amazing mini gardens are handcrafted and no two are

alike. “We specialize in creating miniature world”. They have terrariums that

look like the miniature version of your favorite mountainside getaway or the

beach that you go to every summer.

Greenology is a neighborhood store where folks could find natural locally

handcrafted products. They have everything from unique pottery made from

locally harvested clay to organic herbal tea blended locally. “We want our

shop to be a place where local artists can connect with their neighbors and

share their craft”.

“A great sense of community is very important to us”. Greenology regularly

holds workshops and classes on favorite topics like terrarium making, or-

ganic gardening, fairy gardening, bee keeping, etc. The plan for the spring is

to devote an entire room for “Making-Your-Own”. Greenology also host

activity oriented birthday party, ladies night out, date night or group events.

“We encourage creativity in our store and people are so delighted when

they make something they didn’t think they could”. It puts a beautiful smile

on their face. “It’s a wonderful feeling!” (See display ad on page 13)

Brush your wayto a healthier Brain

For those who didn’t know it already, February is Gum Disease Aware-

ness Month. The gums have to compete with Valentine’s Day and

President’s Day, so it’s understandable if it didn’t get much fanfare.

However, in association with February’s designation some important fig-

ures were announced in a major dental trade magazine. It was reported

that 50 million Americans have moderate to severe gum disease (gum

infection that leads to loss of bone support greater than 25% around

teeth). Of that number 40 million don’t even know they have the condi-

tion. Although it is a preventable disease, if left untreated the infection and

inflammation associated with the condition can contribute to systemic prob-

lems such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Now new research in-

dicates a possible link to another health issue – Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is a condition in which inflammation of the brain causes

wide range of neurological deficits such as memory loss and disorientation,

mood and behavior changes and altered speaking, swallowing and walking.

The disease can be fatal and is now the sixth leading cause of death in the

United States. Over 5 million people are diagnosed with this debilitating dis-

ease in the U.S. and 44 million around the world.

Recognizing that inflammation can cause brain damage, investigations into

the factors that contribute to the disease have included peripheral infections

– infections that occur outside of the brain. In the aforementioned research

scientist concluded that a plausible cause of late-onset Alzheimer’s disease

was an oral infection. There are at least a few reasons why the mouth can

be major source of infection involved in the

disease. Evidence already exist that link

bacteria from the mouth and the inflamma-

tion they can cause in the vessels of the

heart. This fact underscores the distinct

plausibility that infections from the mouth

can travel through the blood stream and

cause damage to distant organs like the heart

and the brain.

Moreover, the mouth can harbor close to

some 900 different bacteria. Also, lurking

in swollen gum pockets and root canaled

teeth are fungus (candida) and viruses

in your family. Sometimes you don’t recover as quickly as you use to, or

remember as well as you’d like.

Depression, sleep problems, anxiety and fatigue can move in and make your

life difficult, as chronic pain. Even if you’re generally a cheerful, positive, rela-

tively healthy person, at some point you’ll need help overcoming or manag-

ing difficulties. But since each of us is unique, your symptoms may be differ-

ent or have a different cause then someone else’s. This can lead to difficulty

diagnosing your condition and can cause you to need different treatments.

So once you’re relatively sure what’s wrong, read up on it. Ask questions of

your healthcare practitioner about negative results possible from recom-

mended treatments, about alternatives available, and about possible long-

term prognosis. Then remember that you’re paying a doctor to make really

good guesses, and that things are rarely absolute. What can you do to im-

prove your health, minimize side effects & gain a sense of control in your life?

Vitamins, minerals, amino acids and herbs can give you extra power, but only

if you used the right ones for you. Random consumption of supplements that

make claims of miraculous cures is not the answer yet it’s what many people

do. Keeping a small notebook with a “timeline” of symptoms, treatments and

supplements tried (along with dosage plus results) is a good way to detect

patterns. Also useful when you consult any professional in healthcare.

Bottles give “suggested” doses which may be too little or too much for you.

Always start with one pill and work up! I find more people under-dose then

overdo supplements, though.

Talk to someone who knows what to expect from these products when you

buy them. You may find that a little help interpreting labels can keep you from

making dosage errors. It also helps to know Levels of Safety, and minimum

effective doses, what works well together and what doesn’t, and what you

probably should avoid. Do it right! You’ll be glad you did! And I’ll be happy to

see you at “River of Life” in Alaska, where you’ll be treated like the unique

person you are. Karen Stauffer, River of Life Natural Foods (See display ad on

At The Heart ofInterfaith Outreach

Members of the Pebble Hill Interfaith Church founded the School in 1997

after recognizing the need for a divinity school for individuals seeking to bet-

ter understand other religious traditions and for those seeking a high stan-

dard in interfaith education and ordination. In 2000, the School ordained 26

men and women, all members of the very first class of students. Ever since,

a new class of students has convened every two to three years. To date, the

School has ordained nearly 100 Interfaith Ministers, or Celebrants.

The founders at Pebble Hill established the School as an outreach program,

and their dream was nothing short of world peace. “We started the school to

(herpes) that can also affect the brain. Researchers have identified fungal

proteins and DNA in brain tissue of Alzheimer’s patients. Of note is the

dramatic increase in rates of systemic fungal infections in the elderly over the

last thirty years (note: fungus can live on dentures!). One more reason to brush

your teeth, gums and dentures. by Dr. Hyo Lim. (See display ad on p. 7)

Keswick Music WorksFor all of your musical needs

Keswick Music Works is a music store that carries the torch of old school

tradition. A neighborhood store where music lessons are the focal point, and

instruction is offered on a wide range of in-

struments. Expert instruction is available on

Piano, Violin, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Voice, Brass

and Woodwinds. All teachers are experi-

enced professional musicians and educators.

Music students range in age from 7 to 70 and

from beginner to advanced.

Many studies have been done showing how

music has a positive effect on the developing

brain and that test scores are higher among

students that play an instrument. This does

not seem to be related solely to children. The

adult brain can benefit from learning an instrument also. If you or have been

contemplating musical instruction, besides being able to play and enjoy the

instrument, the benefits of lessons are myriad. It’s never too late to start!

The retail store at Keswick Music features combo instruments sales (Guitar,

Bass, Ukulele, Drums, Brass and Woodwinds) and the accessories neces-

sary to maintain them. When you shop at the store you will talk to someone

that is familiar with the product they are selling because they have experi-

ence in their field, not someone hired to fill a sales floor position. They also

provide services that include guitar, violin and ukulele restringing as well as

set-ups for guitar. Drums are also reheaded with Dejembe reheading a spe-

ciality. For students in school music programs, a rental program provides

band and orchestra instruments.

For information and questions please call 215-887-1462 or email

noticed that you feel better when you include or omit certain foods from

your diet. Maybe you are starting to show signs of problems that seem to run

build awareness and acceptance within our students of other points of view,

both spiritual and religious,” recalls co-founder Beverly La Rue. “Once we

understand each other, there can only be harmony and peace.” That is, per-

haps, a lofty goal, but most worthwhile goals are. And while students may

agree that world peace is a great idea, most have their own reasons for at-

tending. Consider, for example, the psychologist who wanted to enhance

her practice with a greater understanding of her clients’ various religious

backgrounds. Or the widowed molecular biologist who had decided to retire

from her long career and become a Hospice chaplain. Still, other students

simply wanted the opportunity to perform weddings and other celebrations.

The program at the School of Sacred Ministries is unique in that it is heart-

based and experiential, more focused on sharing experiences with instruc-

tors than on academics. Students supplement their studies with reading and

reflective writings of their own. They are guided in processing new informa-

tion and examining, challenging, and clarifying their own belief systems. In

this manner, they explore their spirituality within a community of like-minded

people; expand their awareness of other points of view, beliefs and tradi-

tions; and learn how they can help others.

The current group of students will conclude their journey in May of this year.

Shortly after that, the School will begin the recruiting process for the Class of

2019, which is slated to begin in Spring of 2017.
