Weien Amy was invited to perform in the Prize-Winners concert where she was awarded the following trophies:- Junior String Solo Trophy Junior String Recital Trophy Pianist U10 Trophy Piano Concerto U14 Trophy Weien Amy was placed first in the U10 Piano Class ( 96%) and the entire String Class ( 95%). She was also awarded a special trophy recognising her outstanding performance in the Queensburgh Festival.

Weien Amy Luo (Grade 4) and Xizhi Aiden Luo (Grade 0) were accepted to perform their piano Concertos with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra in the Cool Kids Concerto Festival Concert to be held in the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria. Performers from all over South Africa auditioned for this event and we are very proud of both pupils for being accepted.

Eshta Naidoo 7A Well done to Eshta for being awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her involvement in the 2017 Regional Eisteddfod.

Department News

Kelly Parsons 1A Kelly is a member of the DanceworxKZN Theatre Dance Company and she was selected to perform in “The Frog Prince” which was performed at the Drama Theatre in the Natal Playhouse. Congratulations, Kelly.

Sameer Bhanlal 7W Sameer will be performing at the Playhouse Drama Theatre on Friday 4 August. The show is called "Naach" and it showcases Indian dance with contemporary and hiphop dance. This promises to be an exciting event.

Tarlia Samuels 7C

Congratulations to Tarlia Samuels who recently returned from Los Angeles in the USA where she competed in the World Championship Performing Arts Competition. She took part in the Dance section of the competition. There were 67 countries present. Tarlia took part in four disciplines in the age group 13-15 - Ballet, Acrobatics, Jazz and Contemporary. She was awarded 2nd place and silver medals in two of these disciplines - Ballet and Acrobatics. She was also selected to dance in the showcase evening where the top 15 dancers from the competition were selected to perform - a wonderful achievement. We are all exceptionally proud of Tarlia!

The Drumline will be playing in a number of shows, events this term the highlight being the Hilton Art Festival. The Drumline consists of pupils from both the Preparatory and College. Hockey News…. Courtney Steyn and Kate Beytell (Captain of the Under13B Team) represented the KwaZulu-Natal Hockey Coastals Under 13B Team from 7 to 11 July in Hilton. Their team was placed 6th overall out of the 15 girls’ teams. They won four games, drew one game and lost two games. Courtney Steyn was awarded player of the match in two of the games. Well done, Courtney and Kate!

Netball News… Maya De Souza: Represented the KwaZulu-Natal Under 12 Netball Team at the Inter-Provincial Tournament held in Johannesburg during the July school holidays. Her team was placed 16th out of 22 teams. Well done, Maya.

Swimming News….. Ambrin Pienaar: Participated in the TYR Prestige Championship Gala from 11th to 15th July. This event was highly competitive with entries from across South Africa. Ambrin scored top overall points for swimmers, broke the Girls’ 12 and under 50m Butterfly championship record and achieved a South African Youth Time for 200m Individual Medley thereby qualifying for Senior Nationals in April 2018. She won a total of 13 medals (including 3 relays) made up as follows:

7 Gold Medals - 50m Butterfly 50m Backstroke 50m Breaststroke 50m Freestyle 100m Backstroke 100m Freestyle 200m Individual Medley

5 Silver Medals - 100m Butterfly 200m Freestyle 4x100m Freestyle 4x50m Freestyle 4x50m Medley

Erin Mc Cann:

Erin competed in two galas - the first was the NDSA Gala where she received the following medals:

4 Silver medals- 100m For Freestyle 50m Breaststroke 100m Butterfly 50m Freestyle

2 Bronze medals- 100m Breaststroke 200m Girls’ Open Individual Medley

At the Prestige Gala, Erin swam in 3 finals - 50m Breaststroke, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke. Erin was placed 7th in the province. Congratulations, Erin!

Rebekah Olivier: Rebekah competed in the Prestige Gala held from 11 to 15 July and she qualified for the Top 10 in the province. Well done, Rebekah! Rebekah represented the Action Academy Relay Team and achieved 3 Silver medals in the following events: Under 12 200m Freestyle Under 12 200m Individual Medley Under 12 400m Freestyle

Garbriella Aromin: Gabriella participated in the TYR Prestige Championship from 11 to 15 July. She achieved 9 Personal Best times, swam in 4 finals and achieved her Level 3 times in this gala: 50m Breaststroke (10 and Under) - 4th Place

100m Breaststroke (10 and Under) - 4th Place - Level 3 time

100m Butterfly (10 and Under) - 7th Place

200m Individual Medley (10 and Under) - Level 3 time

200m Freestyle (12 and Under) - Level 3 time

200m Breaststroke (14 and Under) - Level 3 time Gabriella is ranked 6th out of 107 for 200m Breaststroke in Swimming South Africa (SSA) and she is currently 2nd in KwaZulu-Natal in the 10 and Under age group. Gabriella is also ranked 13th out of 314 swimmers for 100m Breaststroke and 43rd out of 531 swimmers for 50m Breaststroke. Well done, Gabriella!

Triathlon News…..

Isabel Guidham:

Isabel competed in the Tinman Mini Triathlon (200m swim/6km bike/2.5km run) during the holidays and was placed 3rd in the female category. She was the first female to complete Saturday's 5km Park run in Umhlanga. Well done, Isabel!

Kyle Erskine also participated in the Tinman Mini Triathlon (200m swim/6km

bike/2.5km run). Kyle finished 30th overall. Well done, Kyle!

Kate Beytell: Kate ran in the Open Female 6km Umhlanga Trail Run and finished in 4th place. Well done, Kate! Claire Beytell: Claire ran in the 6km Open Female Beach Bummer Trail Run and finished in 3rd place. Well done, Claire!

FOUNDATION PHASE SPORTS NEWS

During the holidays, Kayla Fourie participated in the NDSA swimming gala at the Kings Park pool. She received a bronze medal in each of the following 50m events: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle and Butterfly. Well done, Kayla.

Kaedan Govender participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Chess Championships during the second term and he won the Under 10 section. Kaedan was undefeated and is a true ambassador for our school. Well done, Kaedan.

Ethan Kotzé played rugby for the Crusaders Junior team during the second term. He received the coaches’ award and a medal for his contribution and commitment to the 'Blue Team'. Well done, Ethan.
