It has always been a creative outlet for me. I began going to dance classes at age eleven and continued until March of last year. I did not wish to quit but had to for financial reasons. My passion for dance continues to this day, and that is why I chose to choreograph a dance and film it for my senior project. My research paper was on the history of dance and how it has impacted people of all ages and how we dance now. From my research, I have learned that dance was originated to help express emotions and was done with meaning and a purpose. The information I gathered gave me the inspiration to choreograph a piece with drive and passion. What I learned affected the movement and flow behind each step. Dear Judges:

My name is Courtney Yost, and I have always enjoyed dance.

Though, there were many obstacles such as finding the right song, mastering new moves that I had not yet learned, and filming at the right angles to help my vision of the dance come to life.

Even though I do not plan to pursue dance as a career, it is very much related to my future career choice. I plan to major in Theatre, and with such a career, it is key knowing how to dance. Many theatre companies and films require the actors to know how to dance ,and it could be costly, for their career, not knowing how. I learned that from this project, that if someone asked me to choreograph a dance, I would be able to do it and I would enjoy doing so. I also learned that I can overcome any arduous obstacle that comes my way.

I thought that the Senior Project was challenging, yet satisfying. I enjoyed the dance aspect of it, but I thought that the academic portion was overwhelming. I would not wish to do it again.

Sincerely,

Courtney Yost
