The brainchild of successful entrepreneur Arthur J. Schmitt from Chicago, the Amphenol Corporation was founded in 1932 and has grown exponentially to be the huge force for innovation within the interconnect world that it is today. Designing, manufacturing and marketing electronic and fibre-optic connectors, interconnect systems and coaxial and speciality cable, the Amphenol Corporation is one of the largest interconnect cable manufacturers in the entire world, spanning across 85 facilities and 30 different countries. With a focus on diversifying across markets and anticipating the needs of these high-growth emerging markets, Amphenol has enjoyed a 75 year legacy that has truly shaped the face of the industry. Previously called The American Phenolic Corporation, Mr Schmitt’s initial foundation of the company was in the pursuit to discern a more efficient and effective way to mass-produce vacuum tube sockets in order to cope with booming radio manufacturing that was occurring at the time of the company’s conception. In the course of this pursuit, he found that insulating plastic could more effectively be used to produce tube sockets in a more timely and straightforward method than using Bakelite or ceramic, which were the methods of choice at this particular time. With the first order placed from RCA, the explosion of growth that the company experienced was astronomical and shows no signs of slowing down even to this day. Then, in 1963, Amphenol Ltd was established in Great Britain, under the leadership of Ted Twaites, bringing with it a wealth of knowledge in the field of interconnect systems to the isles of the UK. From our initial site situated in Canterbury, we moved to our current manufacturing site in Whitstable in 1987 and have led the industry of interconnect solutions, becoming the forefront for innovation and new technologies using speciality materials. Then in 1982, we created the Data Bus MIL-STD-1553B range, which quickly became the industry standard for all Military Aircrafts utilising the Data Bus system and is still in use in the Eurofighter Typhoon to present day. The innovative and revolutionary socket simplifies the manufacturing of radios and both become the industry standard. WWII: Military Aerospace: The 5015 AN series connector is then released and is soon know world-wide as the ‘Amphenol Connector’ by Military maintenance crews. Post-war: Data and Telecommunications: With the telephone networks rapidly expanding, the Amphenol Corporation takes on board the input of the Ball Labs and Western Electric engineers, producing the Amphenol blue ribbon cable, which quickly becomes the Bell Systems standard. 1953 First office in Britain: The Amphenol Corporation establishes a small office in Burgess Hill. 1963 The birth of Amphenol in Britain: Amphenol Ltd is established in Great Britain, offering Amphenol’s manufacturing capabilities and interconnect expertise to the isles of the UK. 1982

62GB – 10-76 Product Series – Sub-series Content Originally, the Amphenol Ltd 62GB connector was supplied with a 10-01 contact arrangement as the standard audio interface on the UK MoD Clansman communication program. However, as future radio requirements called for more functionality without an increased size of equipment while still providing the intermateability with legacy Clansman audio headsets, Amphenol Ltd developed their 62GB series10-76 miniature circular bayonet connector to meet this new requirement. The connectors maintain the original 10-07 arrangement with 7 size 20 contacts, while also providing 6 additional size 22 contacts for data or control signals, and are keyed such that the Clansman headsets can still be connected, however a 10-76 plug connector cannot be mis-mated to a legacy Clansman radio interface. The Amphenol Ltd 62GB 10-76 connectors therefore provide all the same features and benefits as the traditional 62GB connectors, whilst also providing an increased contact density. Well established globally on military communications projects across Europe, Canada and India, the 62GB 10-76 connectors are the ideal solution for applications where increased connectivity is required within a smaller connector envelope with proven performance. 162GB – MiL-DTL-26482 Product Series – Landing Page Content Amphenol Ltd’s 162GB series is a range of miniature bayonet lock connectors that are based upon MIL-C-26482. They are similar to the 62GB series but are supplied with front release crimp contacts rather than solder. Although still available, 162GB connectors tend to only be used where already specified and we would recommend our 602GB series for applications requiring a crimp connector to mate to a 62GB series interface.

602GB – MiL-DTL-26482 Product Series – Landing Page Content Originally designed for aerospace applications, the Amphenol Ltd 602GB series is a range of high temperature miniature bayonet lock connectors with crimp contacts, similar to the 62GB and 162 series, and based upon MIL-C-26482 Series II. Primarily used on airframe applications, the series can also be used in a number of other applications, including communications systems and factory automation.
