ExecutiveSummaryThisdocumentdescribesthedisseminationandcommunicationactivitiesundertakenbyFI‐IMPACT during the first year of the project. The project is expected to primarilyperform impact analysis of the investment occurring in phase III of the project. It isexpectedtoprovidethisinformationinthesecondyearoftheprojectactivitiesasitiscurrentlycollectingthequali‐quantitativedatarequiredtodoso.However in this firstyearmuchengagementhasoccurredwithactiveparticipationinrelevantpubliceventstoshareinitialresultsandraisetheawarenessamongthecommunityoftheneedsandbenefits of doing this kind of analysis. This document reports on those eventswherethese activities were performed. It is accompanied by two Annexes providing anoverview of infographics prepared in January 2015 and screenshots of the initial FI‐IMPACThomepageandnewssection.

1.  Introduction 

FI‐IMPACT has actively engagedwith and contributed to all programme coordinationactivities undertaken with FI‐PPP Community Stakeholders to gather intelligence toinformsocio‐economicimpactanalysisandtodisseminateresults.

FI‐IMPACThasaverygoodongoingdialoguewiththeFIWARECommunityincludingthe16AcceleratorprojectsandtheotherSupportActions,whichinturnfeedsintoactivitiesin otherWork Packages. FI‐IMPACT actively disseminated its results and AcceleratorachievementsthroughnewsarticlesontheFI‐IMPACT1andFIWARE2websites,Twitter3andBasecamp.

FI‐IMPACT is leveraging a web presence tosupport necessary data collection fromAccelerators and sub‐grantees required byWP2 and WP3 activities as well asdisseminating results and deliverables. Thewebsite includes a framework to supportaccounts being set up, a data collectionframework (to support WP2 and WP3)including import of data provided byAcceleratorsandintegratedwizardtofacilitatedata collection from sub‐grantees based on aunique URL and log in access and a publicFuture Internet Library to provide thecommunity with relevant links and resources(content collected through T4.1). ThewebsiteprovidesaccesstoboththeImpactAssessmenttool(forfundedFIWAREsub‐grantees)andtheSelfAssessmenttool.Call1sub‐granteessubmitted data on a log in basis as part of an impact assessment survey during June2015(supportingWP2andWP3activities). Followingcompletionoftheinitialsurveyduring July 2015, an impact assessment reportwill be available to each participatingsub‐grantees providing data visualisation and benchmarking across the portfolio offundedsub‐granteeswhoparticipated.

Prior toanewssectionbeing incorporated into theFIWARE.orgwebsiteduringQ2of2015,FI‐IMPACTactivelypublishednewsraisingawarenessofupcomingCalls,resultsand ongoing activities relevant to the FIWARE community. Screen shots of the initialhomepageandnewsectionsareavailableinAnnexII.DuringJuly2015thehomepagewillbemodifiedasrequestedbytheCommissionServices.

Based on initial data collection in Work Package 3, FI‐IMPACT created a number ofinfographics (seeAnnex 1) sharing the interim results from the FI‐WAREAcceleratorCall1,whichwerewidelydisseminatedviasocialmediaandwebsites.

During the first year FI‐IMPACT participated in ProgrammeCoordinationMeetings inBarcelona, Brussels (July 2014), Accelerator Meetings in Berlin (July 2014), Coimbra(November 2014), Paris (July 2015) as well as FI‐PPP Phase 3 Steering CommitteeMeetings.ThisparticipationhasensuredthatFI‐IMPACTkeepsrelevantstakeholdersupto date with its support activities, shares results and learns about ongoing progressamongAcceleratorsandotherSupportActions.

FI‐IMPACT has actively disseminated results and engaged with stakeholders duringrelevanteventsincluding:ECFIII,Munich,17‐18September2014;FINESCEOpenDay,22 September 2014; eChallenges e2014, 29 ‐ 30 October 2014;WebSummit, 04 ‐ 06November2014;FRACTALSevent,Ljubljana,December2014;NetFutures,Brussels,26March 2015 as well as submitted an application for a FIWARE Networking SessionduringICT2015,Portugal,October2015.

Thisreportprovidesabriefoverviewofdisseminationactivitiesduringthesemeetings.

2. Programme Coordination & Accelerator Meetings 

IDCrepresentedFI‐IMPACTduringtheProgrammeCoordinationMeetingsinBarcelonaandBrussels(July2014)toshareFI‐IMPACTactivitiesandtolearnmoreaboutwhattheotherSupportActionsandAcceleratorsarefocusedon.Thisdisseminationwasvaluabletostreamlineactivitiesacrosstheportfolioofprojectsandincreasecollaboration.

FI‐IMPACT actively participated in the Accelerator Meetings in Berlin (July 2014),Coimbra(November2014)andParis(July2015)todisseminateFI‐IMPACTresultsandincreaseengagementwiththeotherprojects.

Participation in the Programme Coordination and Accelerator Meetings have beenproductive ensuring that FI‐IMPACT keeps relevant stakeholders up to date with itssupportactivities,sharesresultsandlearnsaboutongoingprogressamongAcceleratorsandotherSupportActions.

2.1. Accelerator Workshop, Berlin, 16 ‐ 17 July 2014 

The AcceleratorWorkshop in Berlin on 16 ‐ 17 July 2013 was primarily focused onencouraging the Accelerators towork as a team and to discuss and agree a commonapproach to the upcoming Calls and evaluation criteria. Paul Cunningham, IIMCrepresentedFI‐IMPACTandparticipatedinthegroupfocusedonStandardCriteria forEvaluationofOpenCalls,whichwasmoderatedbyThomasBohnert(FI‐WARE).Duringthisgeneraldiscussion,PaulpresentedtheareasrelatedtoimpactassessmentthatFI‐IMPACT wished to have included in the common questions. He explained that FI‐IMPACTneeded this information fromall proposals to create a baseline and facilitatecomparativeanalysis.Participation in thismeetingwasproductivepaving theway forongoing engagementwith theAccelerators. This conversationwas continuedwith FI‐Business following themeetingand led to thecreationofacombined listofquestionsthat were provided to the Accelerators to inclusion in their call process and a jointworkshopduringECFI‐II.

2.2. Accelerator Workshop, Coimbra, 26 ‐ 28 November 2014 

TheAcceleratorWorkshopinCoimbraon26‐28November2015focusedonthefirstcall results, KPIs and benchmarking results. Paolo Paganelli, Bluegreen srl, Italyrepresented FI‐IMPACT and shared insight into the KPIs being developed for impactassessmentandthesupportthatFI‐IMPACTwouldprovideinrelationtoanalysisofCall1 submissions. During the plenary session on 27 November, Paolo presented anoverviewofFI‐IMPACT'sfocus,marketassessmentintermsofdemandandsupplysideand the impact assessment output of the project. During theworking sessions on 28November, thebrainstormingwith theAccelerators facilitated identificationofspecific support  requirements of  interest,  the  information exchange  approach  and  actions points. The  sessions  covered  aspects  such  as:  ways  to make  Accelerators’  data  available  to  FI‐IMPACT  (e.g.,  access  to  the  submission  platform,  NDA  requirements),  calendar  and  key milestones  for  FI‐IMPACT  to  collect  and  process  the  data,  support  to  double‐submission detection, Accelerators  involvement  in design and usage of  the FI‐IMPACT self‐assessment tool.

ItwasagreedthateachacceleratorwouldprovideFI‐IMPACTwithcallsubmissionsforanalysissothataggregateresultscouldbecompiledandtosupportimpactassessment.ThisleadtoFI‐IMPACTprovidingtheinfographicsoftheaggregatedresultsinJanuaryoutlinedinAnnex1.

leveraged to discuss the FI‐IMPACT’s ImpactAssessment Survey and present ongoingactivitiesthatwouldbenefit fromactiveacceleratorinput,suchastheSelf‐AssessmentTool.TheacceleratorsgavevaluablefeedbackregardingthepresentationoftheFI‐PPPaccelerator programme and potential future indicators which can be included inupcominginfographics.DuringthemeetingMartinalsoprovidedinputonbehalfofFI‐IMPACTinrelationtocommunityoutreach,includingdiscussionsonvisibilityofSMEs,tools,mapsandstatistics.

2.4. ECFI, Munich, 17 ‐ 18 September 2014 

FI‐IMPACT leveragedparticipation at ECFI II inMunich in September2014 to engagewithAccelerators,PhaseIIprojectsandthewiderFI‐PPPCommunity.

FI‐IMPACT was represented by IDC, Bluegreen, IIMC, SFI and JSI as each partnerschedule one on one meeting with the Accelerators from whom they were going tocollectdatatoundertakeaninitialquestionnaireandtodiscussproceduresinadvanceof the closing of Call 1 Call for Proposals: IDC scheduled one on one meetings withFICHe, INCENSE, IMpaCT and CREAtiFI, Bluegreen with SOUL‐FI, FABulous,FrontierCitiesandFINODEX,IIMCwithFI‐C3,Finish,CEED‐TECHandSpeedUpEurope,SFIwithSmartAgriFood2andEuropeanPioneersand JSIwithFI‐ADOPTandFACTALSAccelerators. IIMC also interviewed FINESCE, CONCORDE and FI‐CORE to discusspotential success stories. This overall engagement strategy was very productive andassisted in building relationshipswith the stakeholderswhich also assistedwith datacollectionactivitiesundertakenwithinWP3.

IDC represented FI‐IMPACT in the FI‐PPP Phase 3 Steering Board on 16 SeptembercontributingapresentationofFI‐IMPACTactivitiesandexpectedachievements.IDCalsopresented its expectations for the Internet of Things market up to 2020 includingmarketmajortrendsandmarketforecastson17September.

FI‐IMPACT and FI‐Business cooperated to organise a Joint FIWARE Call PreparationWorkshopduringECFI2inMunichon18thSeptember.KeyfactorsforasuccessfulFI‐PPPApplicationareknowingyourexistingcapacityasan inventorand identifying therightbusinessopportunityforeachinventionorinnovation.

This joint FI‐IMPACT and FI Business Workshop provided invaluable marketintelligence,guidanceandsupport.BriefpresentationswereprovidedinrelationtotheSTINbusinessrecognitionconcept,andcurrentIDCmarketdatatoprovideacontextforknowledge exchange and discussion during the workshop. This was followed by aKnowledgeCafefocusedonselfassessmentandmarketmapping,andanelaborationofthe InventionHandbook.Therewasa good level of interactivityduring theworkshopand a number of participants followedupwith IIMC following theworkshop to learnmore about how they could engage with Accelerators and identify relevant Calls forProposals.

2.5. FINESCE Open Day, 22 September 2014 

FINESCE organised an Open Day at the ESB Trial Site in Portlaoise, Ireland on 22September 2014. FI‐IMPACT, FI‐ADOPT, INCENSe and SmartAgriFood2 were alsorepresented at the meeting. Miriam Cunningham represented FI‐IMPACT during thisevent.ThisprovidedaninterestinginsightintothepracticalactivitiesbeingundertakenandtoraiseawarenessofFI‐IMPACTactivities.

FINESCE(FutureINtErnetSmartUtilityServiCEs)wasfocusedondevelopingusecasesfor the smart energy sector within the 2nd phase of Future Internet Public PrivatePartnershipProgramme(FI‐PPP)fundedbytheEuropeanUnionwithinFP7.ItbuiltonandextendedtheresultsoftheFI‐PPPFINSENYprojecttorealisesustainablerealtimesmartenergyservices.

Between2013and2015FINESCEcontributedtothedevelopmentofFIWAREapp‐basedsolutionsfortheenergysectorandranfieldtrialsattrialsitesin7Europeancountries.ItcontributedtothedevelopmentofanopenIT‐infrastructuretobeusedtodevelopandoffernewapp‐basedsolutions inall fieldsof theFuture Internetrelatedto theenergysector.

Presentations included Innovation inESBNetworks, FIWAREAcceleratorProgramme,Smart Energy, FINESCE Trials, API & Trials in Ireland (eCar Grid intergration andInduction&PPE)followedbylivedemonstrations.

FINESCEpresentedthetwotrialsrunninginIrelandtoassistinincreasingdemandandsupplyandthestabilityoftheelectricitygrid.ESBandVodafonearerollingoutfibretothe home, which will leverage the distribution network to provide connectivity.TechnicalInnovationistransformingeveryelementoftheelectricityvaluechain‐rapidchanges driven by Generation (Renewables, Distributed Generation, CCS), Networks(Automation,Comms&IT,SmartGrids)andCustomers(eCars,SmartMetering,EnergyEfficiency). The ESB is developing self‐healing networks around the country and theamount of outages has significantly fallen. Smart metering is being rolled out to 2.3millioncustomers,whicha focusonenergyefficiency.TheESBis installing1,500eCarchargesaroundthecountrytofacilitatepeopletogofromoneendofIrelandtoanother

with 1 ‐ 2 charges. By 2020 Ireland will have largest penetration of renewablegenerationinEU.

AlexandervonJagwitzbrieflypresentedFIWARE.

AdrianFerreropresentedtheINCENSe(SmartEnergy)Acceleratorwhichhasfundingof€6.8milliontosupport42Startupfocusedoncleantechandenergy.INCENSeaimstofund14Start‐upsunderCall1whichcloseson15January2015,whichwillstartinMay2015. It expects to fund 28 start‐ups under the 2nd Call, which will be launched inSeptember 2015. INCENSe will provide funding of €150,000 in four stages (€50kadvanceatbeginningofdevelopment,second fundingphaseatM2orM4,€75kat theintermediate stage (demo/prototype/pilot) and€25Kat theendof theproject (readyformarket). A sixmonth acceleration programwill be provided to selected start‐upsincluding coaching andmentoring, funding readiness services, contactswith potentialmarkets, customers and stakeholders, access to test bed facilities in Spain, Italy andDenmarkandadditionalsupport(legalandcorporate,accounting,IPRetc).

FINESCEprovidedanoverviewofthesmartenergytrialsbeingundertakeninDenmark,Sweden,Germany,ItalyandSpain.

2.6. eChallenges e2014, 29 ‐ 30 October 2014 

Richard Stevens, IDC presented FI‐PPP,FIWARE and the role of FI‐IMPACT in thePhaseIIIecosystemduringtheClosingPlenaryofeChallengese2014.Adescriptionoftheopencallswas also provided. Therewas good levelof interest from participants and it appearedthattherewaslimitedknowledgeoftheFI‐PPPPhase III activities and calls. As a result thisprovided a good opportunity to disseminateresultsandraiseawarenessamongadifferentcommunity.

Following the presentation, a number of SMEs approached FI‐IMPACT for moreinformation. Following the conference, introductions were provided to the relevantpeople and places where additional information could be sought. The Egyptiandelegation specifically requested clarification for rules of participation. This wasforwardedtoPeterFatelnigwhorespondedandthefeedbackshared.

2.7. WebSummit, 04 ‐ 06 November 2014 

Thisyear’sWebSummit inDublinwas larger inscale thanpreviousevents,withover20,000 participants reported by the organisers. With a number of new streams indifferent thematicareas, therewascertainlysomething foralmostanyone.Admittedlysome of these new summits were much shorter in duration than other morelongstandingstreams.

The primary challenge of this event was balancing the interests of participants withthose who were presenting and/or sponsoring the event. While many of thepresentations were of interest both to entrepreneurs and the general public with aninterest in keeping up to date with technology, the quality of interventions varied

considerably according to the individual presenters and themoderators of the singleintervention. Each time slot was focused on one or two presenters, typically with amoderatorfromtheworldofblogging,journalismortelevision.

Paul Cunningham, FI‐IMPACT, raised awareness of FIWARE and the grant fundingcurrently available from the 16 Phase 3 Accelerators over the 3 days. There were asignificantnumberofexhibitorsacross thedifferentRDSvenuesused for theSummit.Although there was limited awareness of FIWARE or FI‐PPP Phase 3 before thatmeeting,theexhibitorsanddelegateswereinterestedinlookingatthisfurther.

2.8. FRACTALS event, Ljubljana, 05 December 2014 

TheFRACTALSAcceleratororganisedahalfdayInformationDayattheTechnologyParkin Ljubljana, Slovenia on 05 December 2014. FI‐IMPACT was represented by GaberCerle,JozefStefanInstitute,Slovenia.

The InformationDay focusedonprovidingdetailed informationon theFRACTALScallwhich opened in November 2014 and closed on 28 February 2015. FI‐IMPACTalsopresented its analysisofthe Call 1 results during the FIWAREsession: "Start and grow your businesswith FIWARE acceleration: frominnovative ideas tomarket" at 14.00 on26March.ThispresentationoutlinedFI‐IMPACT'smaingoalsinrelationtodevelopingasocio‐economic impact model. It provided an interesting analysis of Call 1 resultsincluding a visual overview of the FI‐PPP Phase 3 actors, specific markets beingsupported by the different accelerators, overall funding available for SME and webentrepreneursandtherangeoffundingavailableunderCall1peraccelerator,countries
