Teachtaireacht Ón Phríomfeidhmeannaigh Message from the Chief Executive
It is difficult to believe that it’s time once again to get the gloves on to begin some
gardening or to get the litter pickers and bags out to do a clean-up of your area. In saying
this I am conscious of the fact that many Residents Associations and Community Groups
work all year round to enhance their neighbourhoods. Dublin City Council recognises and
acknowledges this work through the Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition.
At a corporate level, the competition is used to foster a sense of civic pride, place and
community and also to promote environmental awareness. Strong emphasis is placed
on traditional values and voluntary/community effort. Measures taken by entrants to
control litter and graffiti, to organise socially inclusive community events and to work in
partnership with Dublin City Council, all contribute to high marks. The ultimate aim of the
competition is to achieve a cleaner, greener environment and attractively presented local
areas that will benefit all city residents and visitors.
This year, the Team Dublin Clean-up is working in partnership with the Dodder Action Groups, the Canal Clean-up Groups and the
Clean Coasts Groups to make Dublin a cleaner and greener city by removing as much plastic as possible from the environment
and disposing of it in a safe and suitable manner.
Congratulations to all who participated in the 2017 Competition. I wish all entrants in this year’s competition every success and I
want to thank you in advance for your participation.
