Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members of the Committee to Elect Jake as IAFF General Secretary-Treasurer have spent many, many, years in the FDNY. We've seen quite a bit from the truly horrible to the unbelievably wonderful. We were all active members of either or both the UFA (IAFF Local 94) and the UFOA (IAFF Local 854). Collectively, we have quite a bit of experience, both on the fire floor and in the union hall. We've all also worked with some great firefighters of all ranks. We've seen and known some terrific, selfless union leaders. James "Jake" Lemonda stands tall among both groups. In 1986 Jake started his career at Engine 92 in the Bronx. He was promoted and assigned to Engine 234 in Brooklyn. Promoted to Chief, he headed to West 100 Street in Manhattan in Battalion 11. Elected to the UFOA Executive Board in 2009, Jake was a very effective trustee of the FDNY pension fund, pressing for safe investments and helping to guide many of our brothers and sisters through the pension process. He proved to be a tireless worker for the interests of the membership. Back in 1972, Ladder 44's Frank Palumbo was elected as the IAFF General Secretary- Treasurer. Frank served in that position until 1980. In 1988, the IAFF Convention once again elected a member of the FDNY as General Secretary-Treasurer, Vinnie Bollon. Vinnie held the position from 1988 until 2010). From 1972 until 2010 members of the UFA or the UFOA held the position of IAFF General Secretary-Treasurer for 30 years! The FDNY has a long history of our great Labor Leaders fighting for the safety, benefits, and pensions of professional firefighters throughout the IAFF, let’s continue this tradition. To win this international campaign, Jake is going to need our help!!! We are asking all active and retired members to make a contribution to ensure Jake is elected to IAFF GST.
