Dictée P.G.L.

Each year, students at École Gravelbourg

School compete in the Dictée P.G.L. The

Dictée P.G.L. program is an international

French dictation competition open to

students from kindergarten to grade eight.

Through the program’s reading and writing

activities, students learn about

international realities, the importance of

protecting the environment and this year’s

theme of art. Participation in the program

requires a donation to the Paul Gérin-Lajoie

Foundation. The funds raised are used to

support education programs for children

and literacy training projects for young

adults. The Foundation’s major programs

take place in Haiti, Burkina Faso, Mali,

Benin and Senegal.

Students from maternelle as well as grade

2 and 4-7 competed at ÉGS this year.

Winners are, Maternelle: Kisses T. Grade 2:

Silas B. Grade 4: Ariana B. Grade 5: Zoey W.,

Grade 6: Amanda B. and Grade 7: Hunter R.

Each year the students in grade 5 and 6

compete to become the École Gravelbourg

School’s top speller. This year’s school

champion is Amanda Blohm. Amanda will

represent our school at the next level of

competition where she will compete

against students from the northern and

western provinces for the right to

represent those provinces at the

International competition in Quebec later

this year. Félicitations Amanda!

École Gravelbourg students have

competed at the regional level for the last

11 years. The ÉGS competitor has been the

top speller at the provincial level for all but

two of those years.

Thank you FCC!

Thank you Farm Credit Canada

for their donation to our

Nutrition Program of $450.00!

Their donation will go towards

the weekly morning snack

offered ÉGS students.

K/1/2 A Classroom Clips

Since the last newsletter, our class has

had two exciting learning

opportunities. We celebrated 100s

day with snacks, counting and

creating. The students brought in

many different collections of things

such as gems, hockey cards, necklaces

and chocolate bars! We had a very fun

and energy filled day. We also had the

dental hygienist Carlee Layman come

and talk to us about taking care of our

teeth. We all received a bag of things

to help us take care of our teeth such

as a story, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Thank you very much to Carlee and

the Gravelbourg Dental Clinic.

Nouvelles de 3/4 b

Nous avons appris à lire l’heure en

maths et nous passons aux fractions.

En arts, on utilise notre imagination a

chaque semaine. Nous avons

commencé des clubs d’art : un chef

par groupe décide d’un projet.

We are now experts at telling time.

For St. Patrick’s Day, we figured out

how to make a hat with paper and

glue, and decorated it. We then wore

it to dance to Irish music. Our class

treasure is our talents, and they

are displayed on the wall.

Lunch Helpers treat

appreciation

Thank you to our student lunch

helpers who assist with classroom

supervision over the lunchhour! Our

student volunteers were treated to

an ice cream snack in appreciation

for their assistance.

Franco fiévre

March 14th, grade 8-12B ÉGS Immersion

students attended a Provincial Youth

Rally with fellow French speaking

students at the Prairie Land Park in

Saskatoon. As students arrived from all

corners of the province, some of our

students enjoyed watching an

incredibly talented DJ at work -

showcasing many popular French

songs. Others took part in a wide

variety of fun (and most certainly

entertaining) activities and

challenges! Following this “Fair”

portion of the day, students enjoyed

performances from Jacques Jacobus

and Le Groupe Swing, both from

Ontario. Les jeunes ont surtout apprécié

les chansons du groupe Swing - pendant

celles-ci, ils dansaient, sautaient et

chantaient! Bravo! Emcee and SK

music artist Shawn Jobin reminded

students about the importance of

speaking the French

language. Students certainly enjoyed

this French cultural experience and look

forward to the next Francofièvre event.

A special thank you is extended to our

bus driver, Mr. Joe Green. Merci!

Over 230 grade 7 & 8 students attended the event.

The day was designed for students to be exposed to safety hazards which they may encounter in the work place and their daily lives. Students participated in 13 interactive stations that were presented by many local and provincial organizations.

The SRC nominated 3 students

and 3 staff members to compete

for donations to “Kiss a Critter”

Bus Reminders

Food/Drink on Bus o We've had a few occasions lately where buses have

come back from trips (generally the longer trips to places like Mission Ridge, etc.) full of garbage and sticky from spilled drinks.

o Please remind staff and students that there is no eating or drinking on the buses except for water.

o Beyond the clean-up required when the bus is returned, the number one reason we (and other school divisions) do not allow eating on the bus is the risk of choking.

o The school will be charged a minimum of 2 hours for clean-up.

Objects/Projectiles on Bus o Just a reminder that SGI prohibits objects such as

hockey sticks, skis and snowboards from being transported on school buses.

o Larger objects, which cannot be placed on students' laps or on the floor under the seat in front of them, can be placed in the first row of the bus behind the driver, but no higher than the seatbacks and cannot stick out into the aisle.

o On regular route buses there must also be room available – we cannot displace students.
