CoCoMAD – the People’s VerdictTo make sure that CoCoMAD gets better every year we need your ideas &

opinions. Go to the Cotteridge Park website & fill in the questionnaire.

Shopping trolley carnival floats, the best of local live music and the most delicious, local, handmade food and a seaside theme.

There is no other FREE festival quite like CoCoMAD.

CoCoMAD is run by the Friends of Cotteridge Park, a group of dedicated or foolish, volunteers. The festival is a big project and we always need more volunteers to help with the planning and to make sure the day runs smoothly.

CoCoMAD is proud to be a FREE festival but we do need your help to pay for the bit the volunteers can’t do: insurance,

paying the bands, licences and the stage.

If everyone puts £2 in a bucket that’s CoCoMAD paid for.

If you want to know more about Friends of Cotteridge Park or want to join the CoCoMAD team have a look at our website, or follow us on twitter @CotteridgePark & facebook.

Get Active in Your CommunityFoCP is run by local residents who work to ensure that Cotteridge Park is maintained as a great space for the whole community.

The group was set up in 1997 in response to a threat to the park’s funding. After the campaign was won the group decided it would continue to protect the park and to work to improve the facilities.

FoCP organises events in the park like CoCoMAD and Fright Night, raises funding for the park and supports school and youth group visits and a Forest School programme.

On average FoCP volunteers donate more than 150 hours a month doing daily litter picks and regular grounds maintenance supplementing the service provided by Birmingham City Council.

Everyone who uses the park or lives nearby is welcome to join the group. Come and say “Hello” at the FOCP stall in the Main Field or get in touch:

The aim of CoCoMAD is to have a great day out in your favourite park with friends, neighbours & family – without leaving you feeling broke at the end of it! At CoCoMAD as many of the activities as possible are FREE – they are funded by grants and your donations. If everyone puts at least £2 in the buckets then CoCoMAD can continue to offer good value fun.

Say Hello to the 20p Challenge

CoCoMAD has challenged the traders to have something for children on their stall for 20p –something to buy or a game to play. This way you can give your children a £1 or £2 and they can go shopping without breaking the bank.

Look out for the 20p sign on 6th July to see who is taking part.

FREEMain Stage

12:30 - 13:15 The NortonsSpecialising in messy, grunge-lite guitar noise over tight Britpop songs. Think Pulp playing Pixies, or The Smiths playing Smashing Pumpkins. They formed in 2009, and after a few years making sure everyone actually knew how to play, began to headline gigs....

13:45 - 14:00 Cotteridge School Choir14:15 - 14:45 SO VocalAs part of Birmingham City Council’s Arts Champions scheme, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s community choir encourages Selly Oak residents to enjoy singing. Everyone can sing:you just need enthusiasm - and to be willing to give it a go!

15:15 - 16:00 Burdock Band They travel across the UK delivering Ceilidhs and barn dances. Ceilidh allows all the family and their friends to join in. “Together, we all walk through the dance to ensure everyone knows what to do, then we just go for it! Complete madness sometimes, but hilarious fun!”

16:30 - 17:15 Super 6Birmingham-based rock band writing PowerPop with Soaring guitars, Big voices, and Big hooks with very little pretension...

17:45 - 18:45 Misty’s Big Adventure A long time fixture on the Birmingham music scene, Misty’s Big Adventure are an eclectic 8 piece experimental pop band. They mix as many styles of music as you can shake a very big stick at.

CoCoMAD Presents

Stitch & Beach at the CoCoLounge

Every year there is something new at CoCoMAD. For 2013 it’s the arrival of a new gathering place for the

textile fans of South Birmingham.

Knitters, dyers, weavers, spinners, embroiderers, quilters & all kinds of stitchers will be showing off what they can do, selling their wares and giving you the chance to learn a new skill or brush up on an old one. In comfortable surroundings you will be able to chat to your new stitching friends, listen to some relaxing music provided by pedal & hand cranked power and come away with something beautiful you have created. And when the hands of the stitchersget tired Kate Melhuish from Midland Therapeutic Massage will be there to ease away the pain.

Birmingham’s Beautiful ParksWe all know that Cotteridge Park is the best park in the world, but it only stays that way because of all the hard work done by volunteers … and they couldn’t do it without the help of Birmingham City Council Parks Service, Quadron and Birmingham Open Spaces Forum.

All over the city there are groups just like the Friends of Cotteridge Park looking after nature reserves, cemeteries, allotments and parks - all working to keep Birmingham green and gorgeous.

If Cotteridge isn’t your local, park why not join a Friends group near you? If your local open space hasn’t got a group yet why not begin one? www.BOSF.org.uk can help you with everything you need to get started.
