The Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture, SECMD, technique was learned by Paul from Dr. Jiro Abe, Japan, 2016 and McNally Denture Clinic has been treating patients successfully since. McNally Denture Clinic: Founded in 2014 after Paul, a Carlow native completed his Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology at the Dublin Dental University Hospital. With over 24 years’ experience in the field of Dental Technology he practiced as a Dental Technician and successfully ran his own Dental Laboratory and serviced dentists locally and in counties Kildare, Laois, Wicklow, Wexford and parts of Dublin. Paul is passionate and extremely knowledgeable in this field and with his artistic eye and skill has a reputation of producing natural looking and functional dentures. From initial consultation Paul will solely be responsible for your patients treatment from clinical visits right through to denture design, manufacture and final fitting. Since opening our clinic in Carlow Paul has continued to educate himself in his field allowing him to offer patients choice when it comes to replacing or introducing them to partial/complete dentures offering them only the highest standard of treatment and care. What is a SEMCD? Suction Effective Mandibular Complete Denture Up to now, one of the most difficult patients to treat is the complete edentulous patient, with the lower denture being the most difficult of all to achieve a satisfactory result. The revolutionary concept of eliminating the problem of lower denture ‘floating’ and ‘lifting’ by creating an effective seal around the entire denture border through suction mechanism has been spreading worldwide. Dr. Jiro Abe, is a professor of Tohoku university and a founder of the Japan Denture Association, along with many other accolades. In 1999 after almost a decade of research he developed the suction mechanism whereby a complete seal is developed around the entire denture border through a specialised impression taking procedure and an extremely accurate measurement of the patients jaw position. This impression technique has been combined with the B.P.S Bionfuctional Prosthetic System (Ivoclar Vivadent), to create the most stable complete lower (mandibular) denture on the market today without the use of Implants. In April 2017, Paul returned to Japan to become Irelands first SEMCD Instructor having achieved certification under DR. Abe. This prestigious honour makes Paul instructor no. 27 in the world allowing him to teach both the clinical and technical aspects of SEMCD to the dental profession.
