On March 19th 2015, City Gateway will be celebrating its 15th year of bringing hope and transforming the lives of young people, women and families trapped in cycles of hidden poverty in our capital. What started out as a conversation amongst a group of City workers involved in local churches has grown into the vibrant charity we are today.

It is with great pride that I can say, in the 15 years we have been running, we have been at the forefront of innovation in helping our service users out of poverty through training, employment and social enterprise. Our services have gained national recognition: we earned a Big Society Award; we have launched the first Ofsted outstanding Alternative Provision school for 14-19s focussed on employment in the UK; and we have trailblazed in our work with the Evening Standard to deliver the Ladder for London campaign, which has since been replicated in other cities. We continue to pioneer new methods of working with some of the hardest-to-reach people in London to give them hope for their future.

An integral pillar of our success through the years has been the incredible support of the business community, providing funds and opportunities for those we support.

Message from the CEO

Following the success of our inaugural Gala in 2013, which celebrated the success of our partnership with the Evening Standard, this year we are aiming to raise in excess of £100,000. This will fund the crucial intensive wrap-around support that we offer to our service users, which includes safeguarding, family support, risk reduction and mentoring, to help them achieve in their lives.

£100,000 can:

• Support 90 vulnerable young people through a pre-employment course and help them overcome individual challenges that have kept them in poverty

• Give 60 Apprentices critical one-to-one mentoring, crisis care and practical employability support that is vital to them succeeding

• Enable 20 vulnerable women to progress through pre-employment training and an Apprenticeship, improving their confidence and helping them into sustainable employment

• Deliver an early intervention programme to 100 vulnerable families and their extended community; strengthening family networks and supporting children’s emotional, social and personal development to lay the foundations for a brighter future

The Crystal Gala will be a formal dinner with a champagne reception, evening entertainment and an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our Apprentices, partners and volunteers.

We will be giving awards to both partners and Apprentices to recognise their significant contributions or achievements during the last 15 years.

What will the Crystal Gala seek to achieve?

Rikki’s Apprenticeship at Citi, in IT support for the trading floor, gave him a route back into employment and saw him taken on permanently at the end of his Apprenticeship

Paula was one of City Gateway’s hardest to engage young people before she secured her Apprenticeship in HR with Canary Wharf Group. A few years on she has given opportunities to Apprentices following in her footsteps

Why we are looking for sponsors

We are looking for sponsors to cover the full costs of the Crystal Gala so that every table sold, raffle ticket purchased, or donation made, goes directly to helping vulnerable individuals into employment.

In sponsoring the event, you will not only be helping City Gateway raise crucial funds to support the work that impacts on the most excluded in the capital, but you will also be:

By sponsoring an award, you will be making a significant contribution to the work of City Gateway, whilst also lending your support to the outstanding achievements of the winners in any of the following categories.

Each award will be named in the following manner: ‘The (sponsor) Award for (category)’.

Awards will include:

1. Apprentice of the Year This award will celebrate the overall achievement of an Apprentice, throughout the course of their Apprenticeship programme.

2. Outstanding Achievement (by an Apprentice) This award will recognise the specific contribution made by an Apprentice to a specific project which would have been poorer without their input.

3. Apprenticeship Programme of the Year This award will celebrate an employer and the programme they put in place to support their Apprentices, which contributed significantly to Apprentices achieving their frameworks, or securing full time roles.

4. Volunteer Programme of the Year This award will recognise a volunteering programme or group of volunteers who have made a significant difference to the young people they have worked with.

5. Outstanding Achievement (by a City Gateway Women’s Project service user) This award will recognise an outstanding achievement by a trainee at City Gateway Women’s Project. This could be for exceptional services to the local community, outstanding progression through training, completion of an excellent Apprenticeship, or the overcoming of harsh adversity in their life.

6. Youth Outstanding Achievement This award will recognise the achievement of a young person enrolled in City Gateway training and informal education programmes. This could be for excellent peer leadership, outstanding progression through training, or overcoming severe challenges.

Situated in the heart of the City of London, the world’s leading international financial and business centre, this unique and magnificent medieval Grade I listed landmark offers the most spectacular backdrop for the Crystal Gala.

For eight centuries the Guildhall has stood at the centre of commerce, a historic focal point of London’s business community. It is thus a highly appropriate venue in which to celebrate 15 years of partnership between City Gateway and London’s business community, a partnership that has created a multitude of opportunities and brought hope to thousands of lives.

It will be a spectacular and memorable event, with speeches, performances and awards, whilst raising funds to continue our work into the next 15 years. We expect to be entertaining 350 high level individuals from partner organisations such as London Stock Exchange, JP Morgan and Metro Bank. We will be circulating information about the event widely across our networks, inviting local press, and publishing updates to more than 2,300 of our social media followers.
