A global community of public affairs professionals

CIPA sponsors annual career networking events in Washington, DC and New

York City to enable students to meet with public affairs employers and alumni.

Organizations from public, private and international development sectors

participate in the career networking events,

and in conjunction with alumni receptions

students have the opportunity to interact with

industry professionals as well as to acquire career

intelligence and gain exposure to organizations

from across the field of public affairs.

Real world experience

An internship is a key program component for most

students and is typically completed in the summer

between their first and second year of study. Given

that many of the most challenging and rewarding

positions in the field of public affairs are unpaid, CIPA

has developed a competitive grant program to help

defray the costs of unpaid internships.

CIPA’s off-campus study program in Washington, DC,

and Cornell’s Italy, Nepal, and India programs provide students with

opportunities to complete coursework while gaining real-world experience

through an externship. The Capstone and Public Service Exchange programs

provide yet another avenue for students to gain project management

and consulting experience through pro-bono projects for domestic and

international clients while earning academic credit.

Finally, the Student Multidisciplinary Applied Research Team (SMART)

program provides opportunities for students to engage in an innovative

off-campus “hands on” learning experience in international development.
