IN GRATITUDE--PLEASE PRAY FOR ME

May 26th will be the 9th anniversary of my ordination to the ministerial priesthood. I have always kept this quiet because I do not want to draw attention to myself. Hmmm......I start-ed thinking....from whence comes this gift of priesthood? Is this gift just for me so as to keep it private? Hmmm X 2.....It is, in fact a freely given gift from God which is not private in any stretch of the imagination. SOOOO, on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 21/22nd, I will ask you to pray a Hail Mary (1) in thanksgiving for the gift of the priesthood God has given me & (2) that I may love God and you more. Thank you and thanks to God who loves us, Fr. Gregory

Memorial Day Mass: This year's Memorial Day Mass will be at St. Bernard at 8:45am.

Last week Frances Kramer shared about her 2 year expe-rience at the Archbishop Flynn Cateche cal Ins tute (CI). This week Rita Fahey shares about her CI experi-ence. Last year Patsy Quinn from St. Bernard, who was the first parishioner from either parish to a end the CI, shared a li le about her CI experience. Next week Steve Lemmer will share.

I have been blessed to a end the Archbishop

Harry J. Flynn Cateche cal Ins tute the past 2 years. It has been a journey begun in uncertainty that has blos-somed into one of joy and a deeper love of Christ, and His body, the Catholic Church. I looked forward to eve-ry week of class. On my journey with two hundred twen-ty-five fellow Catholics from our Archdiocese along with two faith-filled companions from Ascension, I have come to know that the Church as a whole, as well as Ascension parish is a living family. God is an artist, and we are His instruments, call to be disciples and bring others into discipleship through the fullness of truth that has been given to us by Jesus in the Catholic Church. I have come to believe more deeply in our Father’s plan of goodness and immeasurable love for us--for each of us. He creat-ed us in His image, with a desire for Him wri en in our hearts. We are called to be one with God, to live in Him and He in us, and to live in eternal happiness with Him forever in heaven. He sent His beloved son Jesus, to suffer and die for us to save us from our sins.

Although the Catechism is a big book, in it, God’s

loving plan is very easily laid out in a systema c way in 4 sec ons, or Pillars, of the Creed, the Sacraments, the Moral Life, and Prayer that help us understand and en-ter the story of salva on in a personal way, exploring the reasons for our beliefs on this journey of faith. For me, this is a life-long, daily journey. The insights I have gained during this study are just the p of the iceberg.

My faith has been deepened by my experience of

the CI, and I wish that for others as well. I desire to share that faith with others and especially in my parish family at Ascension. I am open to God’s will in my life. I am deeply grateful to the parish for paying half of my tui on, for inves ng in me. I love serving God at Ascen-sion. I urge my parish family to prayerfully discern if God is asking you to deepen your faith at the Cateche -cal Ins tute. God opens doors, take that step, trust Him, go forward:

‘Open the book. Build the founda on. Grow your faith.’

--Rita Fahey

< < < < < < < < <Con nued from the column on the le I encourage St. Bernard & Ascension Parishioners to con-sider a ending the CI (check it out at h ps://www.s homas.edu/spssod/centers/flynn/). It is an effec ve way to (1) deepen your rela onship with God, (2) grow in knowledge & love of our Catholic Faith, and (3) be equipped to share your faith with others by loving and serving them in the unique way God calls you to. Because those who a end enrich our parish, St. Bernard & Ascension each pay $250.00 of the $500.00 tui on for any parishioner a ending.

Jesus loves YOU, Fr. Gregory

ABC’s of MERCY A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
